This is the song equivalent of the torture machine from Princess Bride. Every time we finished playing, I felt as if one year of my life had been sucked away.
So true. Our director was like, Clarinets keep it super light and short and it was never short enough until a few days before the concert. So high energy I died after it and it was only the second song on the program.
+267 screaming frogs wow thats awesome, im currently playing this inwind ensemble at school (sitting still lol) so thats awesome that youre doing this for marching band, i just finished fall marching band, we played tio macacco by snarky puppy, great song. but anyways yeah thats awesome, so good for you :D
Oh wow. Yeah have fun. My high school band did this as part of our show when I was a sophomore back in 2001. Fun times. Tenor sax part was really fun for once so I enjoyed it.
IVE HAD SHEETS 3 AND 4 OF MUSIC FROM A PIECE I DIDNT REMEMBER ANYMORE AND I SPENT HELL TRYING TO FIND IT AND ONLY WHEN I GOOGLED “FNR 5922” IT CAME UP WITH THIS AND LISTENING TO THIS PIECE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN LIKE,,,, FOUR YEARS SENT ME !!!!!!
Will never be able to thank my HS Band director enough for foisting Holsinger on me as a band geek. Once heard, instantly hooked. All 4 years we featured at least 2 Holsinger songs in each part of band. 2 in Marching, 2 in Wind Ensemble, 2 in Orchestral...This was one of the most fun songs I've ever played Horn to, right up there with Liturgical and Sinfonia Voci...
my high school had a small percussion section my Junior year (it was even smaller senior year) so all of us had to double up on parts. It was soo hard, but when we got it right, it was phenomenal, and so worth it. One of my favorite songs played in high school.
We played this while our band was young and oh my gosh the clarinet parts were just so damn hard! Our teacher decided to take faster then it should have been played. I do feel bad for the percussion though..,
Ah yes! Played this one in High School. It is an exceptionally difficult song. Lots of meter changes, challenging rhythms.. whew! But low brass melody at 2:54 is just breathtakingly beautiful, with Simple Gifts in counterpoint.. genius!
I made the Lee University Honor Band where Dr. Holsinger is the director. I had the opportunity to play this piece under his baton. Truly an amazing experience!
I've played this in class my junior and senior year of high school but never got to perform it. I've performed some awesome pieces in college but I still want to perform this.
My band(middle school students and high school students combined, like 25 of us all together) got to play this song for Mr. Holsinger, the guy came and conducted us through one song and then we played this for him.
Ha, I played the first alto part on this myself, and fun isn't the word I'd use for it. Going from the G down to the C back up to the G over and over and over and over again...
I play trumpet, and while I don't play in this piece, I feel ya. You're fingers can only play so fast! and when your done, well, lets just say... thi-b-s i-b-s my-b bbottom-b li-b-b!
@@festa7427 I played 1st trumpet and cornet on this piece my sophomore year too! This one always killed my lips, and I fudged some of those runs quite a bit
@NickRobo1994 Haha nice. I played alto sax on this piece. This is actually the song that got me familiar with a lot x/8 key signatures and weird rhythms.
+Edgar Martinez tell me about it! We played this during high school (alto sax) and dear lord! I still play and I always pull this piece out to keep my finger dexterity in check!
When I played this in high school, I heard my bad director say it was a level 5 piece. That was back in 2002. I had memorize this as this was our marching band show. This was also in Oklahoma
as an oboist I can say, this piece makes me want to cry
Yato, the god of calamity YES YES YES!!! so true
I never played this before but I feel ya.

a my school we decided to call it "melting faces"
because it actually feels like your face is melting off
I think that’s more like sam hazo’s Ride

You're not wrong 😅

I always think my high school band does this well, but when I look this up for homework I always feel shame has been brought upon my trumpet. ;_;

I got to play this in a Baldwin Wallace summer camp that was six days long, and sitting behind the horns was the best thing in the world.
Such a fun song.....I'm very excited to play it for Wind Ensemble this year.
FUN STUFF...playing this on flute this year!!! It's actually not TOO much of a challenge, but definitely super fun! :)
We played this while our band was young and oh my gosh the clarinet parts were just so damn hard! Our teacher decided to take faster then it should have been played. I do feel bad for the percussion though..,
don't feel bad. xylophone part was so much fun

Trombone part Is lit amirite

I'm playing this is in my school band and the runs for the clarinet part is so hard!

The alto sax part for this is so much fun
I played this two years ago as Euph, and i never recognized Simple Gifts at 3:23. I never heard it.... this officially saddens me!
I've played this in class my junior and senior year of high school but never got to perform it. I've performed some awesome pieces in college but I still want to perform this.
this song was awesome, but it was a pain. 1st cornet part made me into a man.
This piece will put some hair on your chest🐼🔥💪
I had to balance playing 1st cornet and trumpet at the same time... fun times. Love the piece tho
ホルジンガー節炸裂ですなぁ
この作曲家は1,2,1,2,1,2,3のリズム好きですよねぁ
As a French hornist, this piece is both fun and miserable
This will be fun... One Mallet player, one Timpani player, and three others to cover everything else. And I haven't played in two years.
Wish us luck.
LMAO good luck xylo parts hard
My band(middle school students and high school students combined, like 25 of us all together) got to play this song for Mr. Holsinger, the guy came and conducted us through one song and then we played this for him.
We played a different version of this in our marching band show last year. It was part 3/3. "For Which It Stands"
Was humiliated with this piece on stage...when in doubt, play it the octive down...
I PLAY ALTO SAX ON THIS PIECE.
Ha, I played the first alto part on this myself, and fun isn't the word I'd use for it. Going from the G down to the C back up to the G over and over and over and over again...

Justin Pease I'm a trumpet 1 on this piece and I'm a sophomore in high school yaaaaaaaay😅

@@hb712 yeah those were fun times lol
Playin Crash Cymbals, Tambourine, hihat, suspended, and triangle for this. This is my favorite peice that we play for wind ensemble.
Xylo part is a rock too
The alto clarinet part is rough.
Arden Cline There’s an alto clarinet part?
Boy do I remember 😅. So much anxiety
the 1st Cornet part is rough. Great tho
Hello
clarinet 2
LMFAOAOOAOA ALEXI
I like the thing that starts at like 4:10
Ouuu 4:25 gave me chills
@NickRobo1994 Haha nice. I played alto sax on this piece. This is actually the song that got me familiar with a lot x/8 key signatures and weird rhythms.
First song I tried to play on 7/8 XD
I hear a lot of similar rhythms to another piece of his: To tame the perilous skies
Or your winds just aren't playing loud enough :)
my brain hurts
horn part is fucn hard ._.
+Edgar Martinez tell me about it! We played this during high school (alto sax) and dear lord! I still play and I always pull this piece out to keep my finger dexterity in check!
+mrsangelica_b same -.-
Is this like...a march? Or am I dumb
YOU'RE DUMB :)
you suck thats what
love you
it's just madness 😂
Is this piece a level 5 or a level 6
This is magnificent. bravo!
It's a 4 and a half
In Georgia (and several other states), it's a level 6 piece.
When I played this in high school, I heard my bad director say it was a level 5 piece. That was back in 2002. I had memorize this as this was our marching band show. This was also in Oklahoma
This is level 6 according to New York State
Play at x1.25 lol
3:55 For a professional recording that tempo change is awful..
+Titan Assassin That's because there wasn't supposed to be a significant tempo change there...
Sofia Sangiorgio I know, thats what I was saying. The whole song is supposed to remain at a constant tempo.
I thought you were inferring that there's supposed to be one... I mean they do change it slightly I suppose but not much
