秋江夜泊 - 簫獨奏; Night Mooring in Autumn - xiao solo
This is possibly the most successful transcription using actual historical source material in the contemporary xiao repertoire, that effectively blends pseudo-classical Chinese scholarly musicality with a timeless sentimentality. Employing actual phrases from and the main structure of an early 17th century guqin score of the same name, which in turn was claimed to be inspired by a famous Tang dynasty poem, this arrangement was originally written for solo xiao and a small ensemble of traditional instruments.
