আজও ভারতে তামিল দের থেকে বাঙালি প্রায় দ্বিগুণ কিন্তু আমাদের এখানে ভাষা নিয়ে, জাতীয়তাবাদ নিয়ে রাজনীতি সেভাবে হয়নি যেটা তামিলনাড়ু তে হয়েছে। চাইলে হয়তো এখানেও করা যেতো। কিন্তু যেহেতু হয়নি তাই সব জায়গাতেই আমরা এর ফল ভোগ করছি।

তামিলনাড়ুতে তামিল জাতীয়তাবাদ ভারত স্বাধীনতার পর থেকে শুরু হয়েছিল ।
সেদিক থেকে বাংলায় বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদ হয়নি । তাই বাঙালি নিজেকে বাঙালি হিসেবে গর্ব বোধ করে না ।
তবে হ্যাঁ, ইতিবাচক দিক হলো, কয়েক বছর ধরে বাংলায় বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদ শুরু হয়েছে ।
দেরিতে হলেও শুরু হয়েছে এটাই অনেক ।
আশা করছি আগামী দিনে বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদ এই বাংলার মাটিতে আরো অনেক বেশি বাড়বে ।😊

বাংলা সিনেমার অধঃপতনের সবথেকে বড় ও একমাত্র কারণ বাঙালী নিজের সংস্কৃতিকে সন্মান করেনি,করেনা.. যেখানে সাউথের প্রত্যেকটা রাজ্য কালচারের সাথে যুক্ত..বাংলায় সিনেমা করে মহেন্দ্র সোনি আর শ্রীকান্ত মহেতা বা কোয়েলের হাসবেন্ড নামটা ভুলে গেলাম..এরা সবাই অবাঙ্গালী.. ব্যবসায়িক দিক থেকে সিনেমা বানায় কিছু যায় আসেনা বাঙালী র আবেগ ইমোশন নিয়ে।
তুমি আসলে ওখানে পরীক্ষা নিরীক্ষা করতে গিয়েছিলে যে কেনো ওরা সিনেমাকে এতো বেশি ভালোবাসে আমার মনে হয় তুমি আগামী দিনের সবচাইতে বড়ো ফিল্ম ডাইরেক্টর হবে বাংলায় এটা 100% এবং তুমিই পারবে সাউথ এর মতো বড়ো busyness দেখাতে বাংলায়, এটা একদম সত্য

The Dravidian movement started by Periyar as an anti Bramhinical movement not necessarily as an Anti Telugu movement..
There are couple of clarion calls that can be derived from the insights and findings by Aritra here, which can be summarised as follows:
(it's a slightly longer read)
1. Tamil Cinema (or rather all film industries from the South) have never ever had the Mass vs. Class divide segregating their films. Rather their cinema has always been about uniting all stratas of the society through uplifting social messages and delivering social education through a mass medium platform.
Bangla Film industry on the other hand has miserably failed to break this Mass vs. Class divide over the decades... In fact now things are getting worse instead of getting better, as no one is interested to take lessons from the past and from elsewhere, and everyone in the Bengali film industry is only interested in minting whatever meagre buck they can make (as long as they can) by making movies catering to only and only South Calcutta Multiplex audiences.
The recent successes of Jay Bhim there and Belashuru here in Bengal speaks volumes of this monumental gap created in the society at two different places in the same country.
2. Several factors such as division of Bengal, loss of good movie makers and technicians to Bombay, dwindling economic conditions of the state, drop in purchasing power & per capita income (with respect to inflation) of the population of West Bengal at large over the decades has dealt a massive blow to the local Cinema industry as well. Let's not forget that all the South Indian states wherein their film industries are booming today are economically vibrant, powerful, and the masses in general have high per capita income - ergo their capability to catch up with a movie every other week! Not quite the case in Bengal (no prizes for guessing why so).
Even if people manage to spend their hard earned money on a movie in মফস্বল বাংলা, why on earth would they "waste" their money on a mediocre Bengali content when they can access higher content quality by investing their money on a South Indian (Hindi-dubbed) or a Bollywood flick?
3. Further on, infiltration of movie makers into the industry who are simply well-to-do and are from within known-circles, and their affinity to cater to their same kind in their movies is the final nail in the coffin.
Sometimes it feels nauseating (I feel like puking) when filmmakers in Bengal turn up at interviews, and make claims like "আমি তো দক্ষিণ কলকাতার ছেলে, So I Like to make movies about whatever I've grown up with...!" Is this the responsibility they owe to the society as movie makers and influencers? Can an entire film industry ever survive on a couple of multiplexes within 5 sqkm stretch of South Calcutta area?
It's because of this adamance of these Tollypara loiterers that single screens across the state have shut shop (and probably turned into outposts of the ruling party). South Indian cinema on the other hand ensures that their films are watchable at the single screens at the rural/suburban areas, vis-à-vis at the big national chain multiplexes at the Metro Cities, as well as cinema screens abroad! See what a great unifier Cinema can be?
Back in Bengal - the so called money spinner "Aparajito" never made much headway even into the state's second biggest commercial center Siliguri (forget the rest of North Bengal)!!!
4. We blame Bengal's partition to be the cardinal reason for the state's economic backwardness and the consequential impact on its film industry. What are we doing today then? Be it by virtue of economic policies or development or infrastructure projects or even representation in cinema - the attitude we are maintaining can lead to drastic consequences of further disintegration of the state!
If all sections of the society are not represented by cinema, if all parts of the state are not represented by the state's local cinema industry, then what else will? Why does everything have to be Calcutta centric (particularly - South Calcutta centric)?
Are all Tamil films just Chennai centric? Are all Kannada films just Bangalore centric? Are all Telugu films just Hyderabad centric? Or are all Malayalam films Trivandrum centric?
Where is the representation of Purulia, Jhargram, Midnapore, Bankura in our films? Where is the representation of Siuri, Bardhaman, Asansol, Durgapur in our films? And most importantly, where is the representation of NORTH BENGAL in our films? And then you cry fowl when parts of this state want to separate themselves from West Bengal? Brilliant!
Ideally Bengali cinema should not only have been about life and times of all the various parts of our state, but also other states where Bengali is spoken by a sizable chunk of the population - be it Tripura, be it Assam, be it Jharkhand, be it Odisha (and not just tourist destination Puri) or elsewhere... But HELL NO!!! Once our filmmakers find solace in their South Calcutta condominiums, their neighborhood is all the world there is to them... Had some hopes from small town boy Raj Chakraborty - really appreciate how he represented places like Siliguri or Malda or Purulia in movies from his earlier days... সে ব্যাটাও বিগড়ে গেলো...
Unless there is a sea-change in the attitude of the movie makers in Bengal, followed by sufficient support from the government to promote cinema across the districts of Bengal - including the state's northern parts - I don't see much hope for survival of Tollywood film industry in the long run...
I want to add one more point here…South Indian Language Cinema succeeded also because of sops offered to the industry by the respective state governments..Film Industry in Hyderabad for example thrived because benefits offered by successive Governments..

একটু ভুল আছে ভাই । ক্যাপিটাল বোম্বাই তে শিফট করার কারণ বাংলা ভাগ না ।এর কারণ কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের " মাশুল সমীকরণ নীতি"। বড়ো জিনিস পড়ে দেখো । পুরো কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার প্ল্যান করে বাংলায় অবশিল্পায়ন ঘটায় ,বাংলায় পুঁজি কমায় দেয় ।এর অন্যান্য অনেক কারণ আছে তবে একটা কারণ বলে রাখি , নেহেরু সরকার চায়নি যে বাংলা থেকে আর কোনো সুভাষ বসু উঠে আসুক। এটা একটা কারণ তবে একমাত্র কারণ নয় । উত্তর ভারতের বাঙালি বিদ্বেষ বহু পুরোনো । আমাদের মূল অবনমন শুরু হয় 60s এর পরে। আর তার প্রধান কারণ " মাশুল সমীকরণ নীতি" ।

They are heavily influenced by Tamil Cinema revolution. Content wise Telugu and Kannada have done brilliant jobs only in the recent past. But Tamil Cinema (along with Malayalam Cinema) have been superlative since time immemorial.
It's not that there weren't great movies in Telugu and Kannada in the past - of course there have been National Award winning movies from Andhra and Karnataka too even in the 70s, 80s and 90s, but they were fewer and farther apart, when compared to Malayalam or Tamil Cinema. Even today if you consider maximum number of National Award winning films, most films are from Malayalam and Tamil Cinema (of course AFTER Bengali Cinema), than Telugu or Kannada counterparts. Telugu Cinema and Kannada Cinema too have had great stalwarts in the past (NTR, Dr. Rajkumar, Shankar Nag etc.), but much fewer when compared to Malayalam or Tamil Cinema industries.
But whatever be it may, all the South Indian film industries primarily loved to target and cater to the MASSES, so that their content and their messages reached out to audiences at large cutting across social stratas. Something that Bengali Cinema failed to do over the decades. Unlike Bengali Cinema, South Indian cinema NEVER EVER had the Mass vs. Class divide, and now look where the film industries in each of these states stand today.
What's tragic is that after all such studies and research out there in the open, Bengali Cinema has still remained incapable of rectifying itself of breaking its chains of the Mass and Class divide. Even today people are making movies in Bengal catering only and only to South Calcutta Multiplex audiences... How will a film industry ever survive with a stubborn attitude like that?

See sir I liked ur review vmuch but 1 thing I must correct is that , you told that there was no Tamil literature history it has been vmuch new after the upliftment of Dravidian movement so must tell u that Tamil is worlds oldest surviving language there is also a conflict that wether Sanskrit is the oldest language or Tamil , yes during the time of Vidyasagar , Ram Mohan Roy there were not so much literature published by Tamilians as u said they were treated as low community people . So ihv done a research - (how old is Bengali literature-roughly 1,300 years , how old is Tamil literature - its more than 2000 years ). Both the literatures are rich in culture in Tamil culture - Sangam literature written by SAGE AGASTYA and its literature is vmuch rich and vmuch depth its just that IN the early 19TH century it was just rediscovered . evolved into two dialects i.e. Sen Tamil (spoken in the south of Venkata hill) and Kudun Tamil(spoken in the north of Venkata hill) as indicated in Tolkappiyam, a treatise on ancient Tamil grammar. Rishi Agastya II wrote grammar of Tamil language probably in the beginning of the second Sangam era (~6800 BCE). Classical Tamil language of Tamilnadu generally followed the Agastya’s grammar and came to be known as Sen Tamil. Classical Tamil language could survive in its original form since ~7000 BCE because of Agastya’s grammar. Kudun Tamil of Karnataka andAndhra Pradesh could not follow the rules of Agastya’s grammar. Gradually, Kudun Tamil might have been evolved into Archaic Telugu-Tulu-Kannada language around 4000-3000 BCE and Telugu, Hale Kannada and Tulu languages were born out of archaic Telugu-Tulu-Kannada after ~2000-1000 BCE. Malayalam was the last entrant of South Indian languages and probably evolved out of Tamil, Tulu and Kannada around 1st century BCE or CE.
@@soumenbalti4870 see what I think is that may be they have been vmuch flourished but if u go to Tamil Nandu u would see so much detailed Inscripted textures in their temples which are 2000 years or more years old . Still when u go their u would realise how much religious they r they are and so much down to earth as a North Indian I think we are more flourished than them due to foreign invasions . AFTER 19TH CENTURY I think that all cultures started flourishing due to the term globalisation. 19TH century is too much recent . And most of the Bengali literature is composed of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar , Raja Ram Mohan Roy which are not so old they rose after the invasion of britishers to protest against them which is too much recent like nearly 200 years back .
