What I don't think people always realise is that I am willing to take criticism, admit when I am wrong, and have healthy discussions where I can learn from others whilst also sharing my point of view. I hope that this can be a discussion going forward. Thank you watching, and sorry for my mistakes. Lucy

"The thing I fear most is that the process that is unfolding is doing a very good job of making us ununderstandable to each other" - Bret Weinstein I somhow had this nasty feeling long ago that the angry mob would sooner or later go after Lucy for teaching British/RP pronunciation. But I kept saying to myself I must be a loony suspecting that to happen. No, I wasn't. Here we go - Lucy has been denounced by the woke movement and forced to deliver a self-criticism. Just because her teaching correct British pronunciation to us was classified as verbal microaggression, whatever it might be. "Someone" is hell-bent on making us ununderstandable to each other. Courage is now our only alternative - poeple of goodwill, acting in good faith must come together and stand up to the mob.
Then you must feel bad and they don't. Gee, you were right. Politically correct. Fallacies and more fallacies, to convince you that the ball is square.
Lucy, I have watched your video and I did not feel discriminated even though I have an accent that can make things more difficult for me to pronounce. But I really learned a lot from you and I want you to know I love your videos. Never stop, please.

@@itstimmer learn to appreciate a moment of self reflection and growth, I don't think Lucy would approve of the direction you're taking this situation and how you're interpreting it
This would be one of my very few comments on someone’s youtube account. I’ll just let you know that I’ve seen your videos for years. Through these videos I got a chance to complete IELTS test in my first try, and went to University overseas and got my postgrad degree. I wish you keep teaching no matter what people say because you’ve been doing nothing but teaching and give us hope to learn new language and to use it the way natives do. Appreciate your work, Lucy.
I am a Sri Lankan who always wanted to follow the British accent. Indeed I feel unprofessional each time I mispronounce a word. That's why I am here to learn. So you have done no crime...! Chill...!
Yes, you r right! We are still learning something from the world eventhough, we are professionals. This is called KNOWN IS A DROP! UNKNOWN IS AN OCEAN. We people should be humble when someone teaches us. By the way I'm also from Sri Lanka. Let's thank her for her service.
People should get the positives from these channels. She is teaching coz she don't wanna see her students following the wrong path. She has done nothing to apologize 💔
Hey! I'm a Sri Lankan too & I've always wanted to sound more British. That's my favorite accent. And Lucy was my greatest inspiration. She's a great teacher, and this apology is not necessary.
I might have missed something in this life, but... isn't it teacher's job to point out mistakes students make and correct them? How else are we supposed to learn? I came to your channel because it offered a great deal of pronunciation tips, and was happy to learn about some words I got wrong. Please don't let yourself be dragged into something you are not meant to be part of. You are an excellent teacher, very polite and professional, and I really wish that you concentrate on people who come to your channel to actually learn something rather than those who want to push through their political statements.
She’s being amazing accountable for a few words she used to talk about mispronunciation. She’s not talking about what she does greatly which is helping learners. It takes courage to do that. While your support for her is great, you don’t need to discourage people from being so meticulously self-reflective.
I love Lucy and I am a Native speaker. The point she is referring to is that as a teacher, and a prominent model, you need to be constructive. I could say that: if you don't know what an apple is; YOU are unintelligent and dumb; or I could correct your understanding! - she got the critics because she defined the unintelligent. here is one of the critics; it's inspiring ua-cam.com/video/O4no4dbbJZw/v-deo.html
@@pierrelenard9089 pity that what she actually said was: if you don't know what an apple is, *some people* will consider you unintelligent and ignorant (although it's wrong, as a matter of fact some people will) but this is how you can avoid that. I know. Idiots seem to have all the rights nowadays. I'm appalled but shouldn't be surprised. I just hope that whoever did write some of those comments feels ashamed now and a complete t**t.
It's the race to the lowest common denominator. I'm sick of it. Instead of people trying to elevate themselves and others, they try and pull them down. It's jealousy. Disgusting.
When I see things like that, I am sure society is doomed. A language teacher having to apologise for teaching pronunciation is a sign of our failure as humans
you seem to don't understand her message, she apologized due to the message that she was passing : "if you miss pronounce that then you're not intelligent or not professional " you should feel happy for her apologizes because that means that she cares about the impact of her words
She's apologising for unintentionally reinforcing the stigma that if you don't pronounce a word in a standard English accent then you're less than. As language teachers, we should empower our students, not do the opposite. Lucy is amazing for reflecting on this.
She never meant to say people were dumb for not knowing the proper pronounciation. Why do people have to see every little thing in the worst little pssible?
Lucy, I have been watching for a few months and to be honest, I've never felt stupid, unprofessional, unintelligent and disgusting! I have understood that if you pronounce those words properly, you may SOUND like a native speaker or professional, it doesn't mean you're quite the opposite of you don't do so. I'm 14 and because of you, I've finally found a way, how I can have fun and good time while learning a language. I developed it into next level and because of you, I'm able to talk with native speakers, write articles and ace every single exam at school! I sometimes don't feel like doing homework, because I'm addicted to your videos which gave me a tramendous hand and your beautiful accent! I would be joyous if you were my teacher! Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to watching your next video!
I’m form Italy. I didn’t actually feel those words “offensive” or “discriminating”. In my opinion, you, as a teacher, just wanted to warn us that we have to pay attention to the pronunciation of those words in order to sound more English and grammarly correct. Keep doing what you’ve always done, I’m learning such a lot of things thanks to you, and I’m improving my pronunciation and vocabulary skills. Kisses
I agree! I’m from Argentina and I learnt English as Spanish but what I always wanted to do is sound like a real native... you helped me a lot to do it and you have never ever offended me

I liked and still like those videos, also I use Google to learn the correct spelling. I think that someone who WANTS to learn a new language wouldn't be offended by those videos. For me it is motivational to learn sth new. Btw I love your (Lucy's) accent.
@@Harry_WinnerI don't think you understand the peroblem. If you were American and someone told you that your American accent is unprofessional, uneducated or something like that, what would you think of that? This chanel doesn’t target Americans and it’s absolutely obvious that all Lucy says about English is from her own, British viewpoint. People look for a reason to feel offended too much.
It really is a unnecessary apology dear. We are here because we want to be “professional” in English. We should only feel hurt when we cannot speak a word correctly and professionally . You did nothing wrong
@Yashvardhan Poddar It is normal for a foreign person to have an accent. There is nothing wrong with that. But we must try to speak correctly, otherwise it will simply be difficult for us to understand each other.

Dear Lucy, as a non-native speaker, I have always appreciated your pronunciation videos and I have improved a lot. Love the British accent and I love learning the correct pronunciation! In my opinion, your last video was meant for advanced English learners, who are in professional settings, and it was meant to make them feel more confident with their pronunciation. Keep going Lucy!
What is the "correct pronunciation"? Who owns it? Accent depends on where you are from... There's no right or wrong when it comes to accent! You adapt to where you are. You sound like the people you speak to. When you move to a different place, you tend to change your accent (in your mother tongue). Is there a right or wrong accent in your mother tongue? No! The same goes for English! :)
@@LeizaCristina yes, of course when you are learning and you are living with native speakers, you acquire indirectly the language as the way they speak. As a child, I learned my native language the way my parents and the people I spent most time with, spoke. The point is, when you learn you usually tend to refer to the standard pronunciation that most people would understand. I've been living in the uk for a while now, I am reasonably fluent, but I'm aware that I need to keep improving, especially my pronunciation, not because I feel ashamed or anything, but I love to speak with the confidence that everyone can clearly and quickly understand me, which is vital when you are working and maybe under pressure.
@@lauradomenici578 i understand you, but just the same. What Lucy teaches is the "correct standard British" pronunciation. And, if you consider that most people (Around the world) speak more similarly to American people due to the amount of media we get from them (movies, tv shows, etc), you would realize that most of the people who speak is: non-native, not British-accent speakers. And even among British and among American there are accent differences). Now, if you lived in South Africa or Australia, I'm sure you would see that Lucy's pronunciation is not the correct one for everybody. I'm Brazilian and I've seen videos of people teaching Portuguese to English speakers (American, i think), and, honestly, if someone came to my area (the South), speaking like that (people from Northeast), they would sound a little strange, but we would COMMUNICATE, and adapt, because why on earth, would I expect them to sound like a Brazilian instead of being fluent and communicatively competent? The line Lucy's crossed is the one where it is expected to have a person erase their origin to be fluent. I've been an English teacher for many years, and I used to follow her, but I quit, because we all get to a point where we realize that this is all unreal, and Not EVERYBODY speaks perfectly, nobody speaks exactly like the dictionary pronunciation indicates, and it's freeing... we have to be careful to have a clear pronunciation, but like she mentioned "eXpresso" is wrong, well, espresso was borrowed from Italians, if I were Italian, I would pronounce it the right way "expresso" and nobody would be confused about what i was speaking.
Dear Lucy, I've been with you for over a year now and watched almost every single video on your youtube channel. You are a wonderful teacher and I don't want you to feel sorry for what you've said. Your beautiful British accent is like a music to my ears. Lots of love from Ukraine
Nobody can speak like a Uk native English speaker or like an American person if they’ve not been living there since childhood and as long as your English is grammatically correct, you don’t need to worry too much about your accent cuz you can’t change your accent anyway, even if you do you can never lose your native accent 100% and you will end up being laughed at because you have not liked the real you! So catchy videos are costing people’s time to change their accent when they can’t do it.
Dear Lucy, they were competitors and trolls. There are a lot of such people on the internet. Be brave and strong. Do not leave your chanal. You are the best teacher.

ana popa Then don’t come on UA-cam and watch videos from someone who is teaching people HOW TO SPEAK PROPERLY. Your point makes no sense. And, frankly, stop being so sensitive.
You shouldn't feel bad. I can't imagine that anyone would think that you were looking down on anyone. You have been abundantly clear from the start that you are helping people to sound a certain way. A person can desire to change something about themselves without there being anything wrong to start with. I don't feel that you have ever presented yourself as being better than anyone else, just someone who has something different to most of the world that some desire to emulate. Like one of my teachers repeatedly said 'different is different, not bad, just different.' Everything I have seen of yours has been positive, and uplifting.
She never intended to discriminate or make somebody feel bad.. Sorry but they are behaving too childish. We watch her to learn and improve pronunciation because we want to sound native, right? If we didn't want to sound native why would we listen to her? I feel sad because her videos are interesting, creative and funny, and I don't think is fair to attack her or make her feel bad.. She's doing a great effort to be interesting and helpful to us so we can learn about grammar, pronunciation and to increase our vocabulary. I'm sorry but I don't agree with those that are attacking her. If you don't like her videos don't watch them.. It's simple , right?
"A person can desire to change something about themselves without there being anything wrong to start with." Most of the times this is not the case. Whenever we do/change something is because we think it will make us feel better. I watch her videos and I think she didn't realize about the "hidden message" behind her words. This way of thinking about accents was really common some years ago, but nowadays, when there are more non-native speakers of English than natives, the perception has change.
Whenever someone says that's how professionals or experts pronounce it, it makes me work harder on my accent because I love to know how I should pronounce the words correctly. I think there was nothing wrong with your old videos but the only thing is, that people receive words differently, you should do you and not just change because someone is hurt by your words which are clearly not hurting others and it's not your intention to do any bad ;) we love what you do and if we don't there are many other channels:)
I completely agree Nour. Lucy, I enjoy your videos. I enjoy your presentation style. I have an American accent but I am more interested in spelling, grammar and manners than I am in pronunciation. You don’t need to apologize. I never felt that way. You’re actually helping me get my British accent. Your videos are amazing. Keep on doing great work
I've been an ESL Teacher for a few years now. English is my second language and the one I teach is American English with American pronunciation. However, since I discovered your channel some time ago, I recommend my students to watch your videos. You are always positive with a nice sense of humor. I watched the video and neither you nor the video tried to give a negative message. I'm concerned people will be offended so easily or want to read between the lines something that doesn't exist. Anyway, Lucy, there's no need to apologize, at least not from my point of view. I send you hugs from Mexico!
Dear Lucy! You are making a huge mistake apologizing and deleting your videos. This is unfair to those who love your lessons. You enable the minority to triumph over the majority. People who don’t like your lessons are limited in their thinking, but they defeat a huge number of your fans who learn English using your videos. And you, Lucy, follow the lead of the minority, not respecting the majority, depriving your real students of your beautiful and very useful videos. You must believe in what you are doing. And to understand that a huge number of people support you. It seems to me that it would be reasonable and fair if you return the video. It will be respectful to the majority. And a minority who does not like your lessons should find another teacher who will suit them. This is what civilized people do. And also. It seems to me that other teachers envy you. Because Lucy is the best!

Nevermind, if what you call political correctness (I call it neobigotry, since it's the same as the old religious hypocrisy with a different object) proceeds at this rate it'll destroy itself before causing too much harm. Never do what Lucy did in this video. Be strong, fight every orthodoxy and support free will.
When a teacher corrects pronunciation is just that...... keep it up. Please continue with the pronunciation videos. Rephrasing the title should do for every one that felt ofended, not me btw.
Dear Lucy, Whenever you say in your videos “sound like a native” and “sound more professional” I can only appreciate. As a speaker of any foreign language, each of us have limits since there are distinctive sounds in each of them (which are phonemes). As children we have better contact with a particular language acquiring its characteristic phonemes and may have to strive a little more to imitate different sounds. It’s natural to us. With practice however -as with everything in life- one gets used to the new sounds as to speak in parallel and so be better comprehended by ones who have acquired these different sounds as children -as we did with our own; they might as well find difficulty to pronounce sounds of other languages. Although I know I will not be able to pronounce all words 100% -the same goes to the use of grammar-it’s clear that your intention is to help one to improve his speech as best as he can; with excellence, not perfection. After all, who wouldn’t want to be better understood by everyone? Lucy, you are a marvellous teacher. I’m much more confident in my English after your lessons. And all that for free, I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you!

Try your best. If human beings always had thought this way we would never have gone further than monkeys. Yes, you may have whatever accent you want but not be surprised if people don’t want to keep talking to you because they don’t understand you. As a non-native speaker I had very hard time trying understand some people and I did my best to sound understandable. I am so sorry Lucy you deleted your amazing videos. People are so stupid... Instead of using brains it’s easier to say “It’s my right”. The next step is firing red head girls as witches I guess...
I agree. Everybody speaking unformally in their own leanguage make mistakes, that in a formal occasion shouldn't. I'm italian (that's why my written english is so bad, sorry XD I hope it's understandable), our grammatic is pretty intricate: we commonly use a more, ehm, relaxed vocabulary, when talking with friends or family. Say the same things at work should be wrong and if someone points out they should be right. It unprofessional
People weren't offended they just pointed out that she was wrong to imply (whether intentionally or not) that unless you pronounce words in a certain way and with a certain accent then you will not sound intelligent or professional. I grew up in a 'working class' town in the north west of England and had a very strong accent. My parents then moved to Harrogate in north Yorkshire which is a very middle class town. I was made fun of constantly because of my accent and told that I sounded 'funny.' Other kids looked down on me simply because of my accent. I was no less intelligent than them but judged solely because of the way I pronounced words. This is the problem. I am an English teacher now and I always tell my students that it doesn't matter what accent you have, the important thing is to be understood. Accent discrimination is a real problem.
So sad that people continue to misunderstand other people...I'm very shocked by that...you are a great teacher...don't give up baby...greetings from Italy
That's not it...what is wrong is implying someone sounds unintelligent because they haven't fully mastered their second language in terms of pronunciation. obviously she didn't mean to. Edit: I don't think I ever judged someone's level of professionalism or intelligence because of how they spoke my language and I don't see why anybody else would..

You need to apologize to no one for teaching corect British English. I watch your videos to improve and correct my English and prononciation. Then what’s the purpose of teaching a correct prononciation if everyone can pronounce a word like they want? Nowadays, so many feel discriminated, there is so much sensibility... please continue to be you, teach proper Prononciation, and don’t get caught in this discrimination madness.
To be honest British pronunciation is not the only pronunciation of English and just saying correct is very wrong. correct British English it is not even correct itself, British English has been an evolving language and compared to French or other romanticize languages, it is subjective and it changes over time. I am a native English and a English teacher, and her way of teaching is wrong and certainly it would't be accepted by any accredited institution.

@@amitdeb2088 Really? I must be living in parallel universe thinking that all established schools, especially British private education system are teaching exclusively RP. British media adopted RP as a norm, all institutions, including Court and the queen herself. RP is not the only accent in use, but is the one most students want to learn, for obvious reasons. People want the best value for their money and if they are going to invest time, money and effort into learning English, they most certainly want to sound like Oxford graduate rather than Del boy. People do judge us by the way we speak, among other things. There are other options online for those who are not interested in British RP.
People should be humble to learn instead of getting offended if someone calls out on their mistakes. I love your channel, you're a wonderful teacher and you shouldn't have to make this video.

Please don't let this get you down. There is no need to apologize for being a good teacher. I would be offended it you didn't release another video soon.
This is the biggest WAIT WHAT I've ever said out loud. I'm speechless, you are apologising... for teaching!? What's next? People offended by the camera angles? Wanting to educate yourself doesn't mean you were stupid at first It means you're willing to expand basic knowledge and that's by no means something to be offended about or reason enough to come at those who are trying to make your learning path a little lighter. If you ever get offended by something, first look at yourself, accept your weaknesses and strengthen them, learn every single day and focus on what YOU can do to make yourself better instead of wasting that precious time on bringing other people down just beacuse you don't consider yourself enough. I had to say it since you had no reason to apologize in the fist place. You're a great person and genuinely care about giving those who follow your content the quality learning material they deserve and hopefully reaching out to more people. I am always eager to watch your videos on pronunciation since I am not a native English speaker myself but I want to get better at enunciating some words. I am really thankful you take the time to go through every single word, pronunciation and grammatical wise and also make it fun to watch and listen to all the same. Now, the reason behind why I can't not seem to understand people getting offended by whatever they think you did wrong it's because I have seen myself how some people (foreigners), not native of certain language, as a matter-of-fact, take for granted pronunciation. However, when talking it sounds so off that is kind of embarrassing, there's when you really REALLY feel stupid. But you shouldn't bring it on others, in fact, its a learning opportunity. So, again, I am thankful to you teacher Lucy and all those who care about education, real education. Moreso, want to make a difference everyday for them and also for everyone willing to learn and educate themselves.
Dear Madam! I am an English teacher from Poland. I recommend your channel to my students. The truth is that your channel is directed to non-native speakers. It is a shame that you are removing these videos as for non-natives, it is the truth that they will sound uneducated and simply ridiculous in the eyes of other non-native co-workers who are also taught British or American pronunciation (the way it is presented in the dictionary). It is not discriminatory to present specific British accent in a channel created by a British person. It doesn't mean that people with other accents are not intelligent or anything else. It just means that if you are a learner of English, it is better for you to study the "dictionary" accent. Maybe instead of removing the videos, it would be enough to state that this is a channel for learners of standard British English. Thank you for all your work. You are doing a great job.
This is utterly insane. There is a right way and multiple wrong ways to pronounce nearly every word we use in the English language. Just because a crowd shows up at the castle door with pitchforks and torches demanding that you dumb down (yes, I mean dumb down) the language, that doesn’t mean their argument is valid.
This is actually not insane and Lucy demonstrates a great deal of intelligence and maturity in making this apology video. There isn't a wrong way to pronounce words. There are standard and non-standard ways of pronouncing words. Obviously, I'm not talking about mispronouncing on purpose. But if you pronounce a word in a non-standard way, it doesn't mean you're dumb or less than. That's the gist of the criticism she received.
I can't believe what I've just heard! Lucy, you're teaching British English with the pronunciation we can find in dictionaries. And it's the best one to learn for non-native speakers. Of course there are different accents, but you are not teaching them. If someone is offended by that, he can go and find a channel with that different accent he likes. Last video was brilliant. I found that many of these mistakes are common in my native language (Polish) as well. And many of the words you talked about in that video are not about an accent. Espresso is always eSpresso and not eXpresso! It's not an accent, it's a mistake! And if someone is making that mistake it doesn't mean he's unintelligent. It just means he doesn't know how to pronounce the name of that coffee. And you can help him with that! If you really feel bad about the situation, maybe just change the titles of your videos. There's no need to use words like intelligent/unintelligent, etc. You can write: "Correct British pronunciation of 10 professional/school words." or "10 common mistakes...". I don't need catchy titles, because I love you content anyway. Just like millions of your subscribers. Please have that in mind and don't change!!!
My native language is Portuguese and I'm pretty sure that any other non-native speaker should be able to understand what is accent and what is wrong pronunciation. You shouldn't be apologizing for teaching people how to pronounce words. If you are offended by someone teaching you how to pronounce, the problem is with you, not with your teacher. Learn it! Be grateful for someone teaching you without even charging for it.
Agree! When a person has an accent but the speech is grammatically correct as well as pronunciation, nobody would say that the person is uneducated/unintelligent. But even if person almost gets rid of their accent to make it fairly unnoticeable but still makes huge pronunciation and grammar mistakes that surely would make people doubt one's professionalism. Sending lots of love from Russian fans
She is talking about people with accents in the very same UK. They speak perfect english with a different pronounciation and under no circumstances that makes anybody less smart, unprofessional or uneducated.
Gloria Bobbio in real life people judge you by the way you speak. It’s a fact. The teacher is just telling the truth. It’s a candid social observation of English society.

Oh dear teacher Lucy, we love you and your accent,we just want to talk like you,and you were trying to guide us! ❤❤ i'm your student from South America
To "sound professional" vs to "be professional". To "sound intelligent" vs to "be intelligent". Your video clearly conveyed how to sound more professional but you never conveyed the message that if one makes this kind of mispronunciation then "he is stupid". Let's be honest, you can be TRULY INTELLIGENT but if you're in an industry where you have to convey your message in an intelligent way (there are people who are intelligent but don't speak intelligent, if you know what i mean) , it will benefit you to sound intelligent as well - to convey your message more accurately and effectively and with more impact. Being professional is one thing, but "Sounding professional" will help you become more credible in the professional world. That's reality. Just as a dish could be really fantastic without having to look great. But giving that food an equally fantastic presentation will attract more people to feast on it. No matter how great that food is, if not given the right presentation, might have difficulty reaching people's stomach. People tend to choose the well-presented one and accept its average taste to be excellent. Intelligent within and sounding intelligent without would be a perfect combination. That's what we're trying to achieve here and Lucy's videos do address that. I appreciate Miss Lucy even more though for such a humble heart to apologise even for the unnecessary. More power to you. Much Love from the Philippines ❤️❤️❤️
I would say 'to sound professional' = based on sentence construction and also the context. There are things you would and would not say to sound professional. to be professional = based on what you do in your job. The pronunciation doesn't reflect 'intelligence nor professionalism' in any case but can define your language environment ( native language, which part of the world you grow up in, etc...) Just accents and sounds..You might think someone talks funny/interesting with different accents but you can still understand him/her. I think people disagree on 'the rapport between accent/pronunciation and intelligence/professionalism'. That's all. Voila :)
I just started watching a few videos of your English lesson, and I started to fell in love with the way you teach, especially you provided the best examples, Thanks so much 😍

you seem to don't understand her message, she apologized due to the message that she was passing : "if you miss pronounce that then you're not intelligent or not professional " you should feel happy for her apologizes because that means that she cares about the impact of her words
She's apologising for unintentionally reinforcing the stigma that if you don't pronounce a word in a standard English accent then you're less than. As language teachers, we should empower our students, not do the opposite. Lucy is amazing for reflecting on this.

Everything I have seen of yours has been positive, and uplifting.
Well I think you have never made a mistake in your life.

I completely agree Nour. Lucy, I enjoy your videos. I enjoy your presentation style. I have an American accent but I am more interested in spelling, grammar and manners than I am in pronunciation.
Well said!

Dear Lucy,
Whenever you say in your videos “sound like a native” and “sound more professional” I can only appreciate.
Thank you!

Well I've always seen your titles as "How to sound professional or intelligent" as motivation. It's all about perspective and unfortunately that's life. There's about 8 billion people around the globe and surely they have like 8 billion different personalities and perspectives. Criticism will follow you all the time no matter how careful you are and it applies to all of us. But It's not necessarily a bad thing since It provokes our creativity and intelligence. Anyways we all love your videos and we appreciate your passion and dedication.
Very true! We love you Lucyyyy thankssss 🤗
My understanding, accents and idioms inside of any language most of the time becoming a tag and even discrimination tag instead of a proudness. Just have a look at any film or old books (before cinema were invented) how some characters status and role are linked to their accent. So she is doing well reconsidering and reflecting on those videos and criticism.
Pathetic people. Blaming Lucy because they were not good enough in learning English. That's why you're learning, right???? It's a process! I am so tired of western tolerance! You have a right to have an accent you want to have, you have a right to be stupid, you have a right to have no brain at all... Do something and learn!
Accent discrimination is a real problem.
couldn't agree more.

Dear Lucy, your apology post on youtube was so disapointing to listen. I really admired your lessons and your personality. You were a breath of fresh air in these days... You need to apologize to no one for teaching corect British English. I watch your videos to improve and correct my English and prononciation. Then what’s the purpose of teaching a correct prononciation if everyone can pronounce a word like they want? Yes, you have to learn how to pronounce a word correctly to sound more professional and if you want to correctly learn a language. Nowadays, so many feel discriminated, there is so much sensibility... please continue to be you, teach proper Prononciation, and don’t get caught in this discrimination madness.
What she said :)
@@amitdeb2088 if you browse the comments you'll see that a vast majority of us subscribers / followers / students is here because we LIKE her humorous teaching style, we find it beneficial, and we want to learn *this* English, although we are aware that it is not the only correct of acceptable pronunciation. Wouldn't it be more productive for everyone that you set up your own channel, advertised it, enjoyed your journey with your students, and further enriched the language learning community, instead of wasting your and everyone else's energy in bringing down others and their work? Peace.
I think proper pronounciation is the correct word rather than "professional"

Such a lovely person. Love your You Tube channel, Lucy! Thanks so much for making it!
Exactly! Might as well close schools and teachers should stop teaching and correcting mistakes.
Unfortunately some people think that their feelings will change the reality. They won’t ;) It’s clear that this channel is about British English! :)

I didn't find any discrimination in your videos. your videos are so helpful to everyone and you should not be apologising for nothing wrong.
Kevin Abroad No, she was bullied into making an apology by jealous “creators” and the lunacy of the mob. It’s shameful.

Kevin Abroad I did. You can tell that she truly loves Big Brother.

Maybe it’s time Lucy started teaching us how to speak with Polish accent in order that we don’t feel „offended” 😉

I wholeheartedly agree! Beautifuly said.
I would say 'to sound professional' = based on sentence construction and also the context.
There are things you would and would not say to sound professional.
to be professional = based on what you do in your job.
The pronunciation doesn't reflect 'intelligence nor professionalism' in any case but can define your language environment ( native language, which part of the world you grow up in, etc...)
Just accents and sounds..You might think someone talks funny/interesting with different accents but you can still understand him/her.
I think people disagree on 'the rapport between accent/pronunciation and intelligence/professionalism'. That's all.
Voila :)
That's it!!!

Come on Lucy, there is no need of apologies, I’m a beginner English Teacher and I’ve seen your videos many times to help me out when I’m doubting about some details I need to teach and you’ve never made me feel bad with your content, you’re an excellent and very professional teacher and person as well, never stop making videos for us! This is the type of channel that it is worth watching! You’ve made me feel quite motivated with your videos to keep learning English! Greetings from Mexico🇲🇽!!
Well, there is the need to apologize if she realized that by herself. That doesn't mean the channel isn't great and helpful.
I'm in agreement with this person. Lucy, you have helped me a lot with your excellent and professional videos. I take this moment to tell you that thank you very much for everything that you have taught me
No need for apologize?
Would you Even Like To be called uneducated just because you mispronounced a word in french?
True!!!!!!! Some individuals are too sensitive.
Tengo la misma opinión que tú, siento que mucha gente es demasiado sensible, ella hace videos maravillosos y desde México también le mando mi amor.
In my opinion, people are over reacting nowadays.
It's a shame how people feel offended way too easily for absolutly nothing.
Please, keep up with your excelent work.
I agree
Totally agree
Don't be worry Lucy. We are with you
100% agree
It’s true though ... bruhh
Your British accent is beautiful!!!
I‘m so confused...
as a non-native speaker i never felt discriminated!
It‘s your JOB as an english teacher to point out what we can do, to sound more professional.
PLEASE don‘t stop those videos!
Yes but some people are not able to pronounce exactly how she has said to pronounce due to maybe having an accent or whatever. And now they feel that english people may think they are stupid. I know so many PhD students from lots of European countries they do feel a bit stupid as pronunciation is hard for them by no means are they stupid but swap places, an English person in italy speaking Italian but not pronouncing 100% correctly they may seem stupid to others. By no way however did Lucy say that those people who cannot pronounce are stupid she is teaching and unfortunately made a mistake.
exactly... everyone has its own way
@@irisdanagher The solution is ..... don't watch her videos SIMPLE.
@@irisdanagher pronunciation and accent are 2 separate things. aware of one's weakness in pronunciation can help one from awkward situation. imagine you want to say you love peanuts but mispronounce it.
Lucy, you did not intentionally imply any wrong message here, we all know that! Please put this behind you and kindly continue your classes, we are here to learn. Much love, xx
I wonder, Lucy, are you alright dear? We haven't seen or heard fom you after your totally unnecessary apology.
I'm afraid something bad might have happened to her.
Yeah I follow her on her Instagram too but she hasn't posted in a while. But her boyfriend Will is pretty active on Insta. What's wrong Lucy ma'am? Are you alright?
When will we get the new lesson Lucy?
I never felt that way, honestly. You're our beloved teacher and i assume you want us to improve in all aspects including pronunciation. What's the point of studying if you don't want to get better?
Avoid toxic people, I apreciate your effort for helping us to improve our english level
I work as an English teacher in Russia and I've been watching your videos for several years and they helped me a lot. Thankfully you, I started to pronounce "pronunciation" correctly. I was surprised a lot when I heard the correct pronunciation and it was kind of fun not offensive a lot. It happenned not after this video, it was sometimes ago, it was your any other pronunciation video.I often show your videos to my students as an extrra recource for studying. We adore you. Pronouncitaton videos are our favourite ones. I have a great wish to sound smart and intelligent. So, keep making them!
You know, you are the best teacher ever. Two years ago I couldnt talk or understand english but now I am waching you everytime and I like your accent even I talk like you. for this reason now I can understand everything.I can talk........ thank you for every lesson I want to see my positive teacher
Damn they're coming for the English teachers now? Good grief!
Seriously!!! I can’t!! 🤦🏻♀️
Lucy you're the best teacher I've ever seen cause of you I've improved my pronunciation and cause of you I loved the British accent you don't need to apology just keep going 😊
Me too. It isn't her fault. I'm sorry for her
@@chinguyen4108 yeah! You're right
I love her teachings. Cause of her I was appreciated by I'm english teachers .she only corrected our mistakes. It's not a discrimination.
I don't accept your apology. You've done everything right. People are really sensitive nowadays ugh.
Soo...this is real? I thought it was satire, until the punch line didn’t come. Is she REALLY apologizing as an English teacher for correcting pronunciation?!
I just can’t anymore. Thinking that this might actually be real makes me sad for my own country...
Umm... sensitive?
Sometime watching her videos makes me feel that way too, she is trying to create a study friendly environment for everyone(she is nice) , so don't just think for yourself
I don’t accept your apply. You have done everything right. People are really crazy now a days
I believe you mean sensitive... Sensible means the complete opposite in this context (it means somewhat like rational)
A perfect example of being strong. Thank you for your channel.
I’m not here to study English I just truly enjoy your content and tbh I’ve never felt offended or criticized by any means...your videos are educational and interesting, that’s it! We love you, keep on doing what you’re doing!🤍
Since when educating people means hurt feelings? What kind of new world are we living?
Garret S: ?? Uhh... source?
Or are you just going to make nonsensical statements for the sake of it?
