Let's disassemble an LED faucet light the wrong way

  • Lidmotor used one of these in one of his projects and mentioned how hard it was to get one apart without destroying it so I thought I would have a go and surprise surprise he was right. However, you will be able to see what is inside and what not to do if you want to try to use one of these for your projects. If I find anything that will dissolve the resin safely I will do another video.
    Here is Lidmotor's video that inspired me to have a go • LED Faucet Light---- ...
    My second attempt at disassembly is here and is more successful
    • Grandad vs the Faucet ...
    There are plenty of these faucet lights available on eBay and the listing for mine has been changed so just search for faucet light and you will find them.

    I opened up a faucet yesterday. As you started sawing on the side, a few mm down from the top, I was so lucky to start sawing from the top (into the resin). And I only sawed the resin which was sticking out, so my saw barely touched the plastic outside. Now I had 4 ridges, and I used a tiny screwdriver (a watch makers one, 3 mm) and started pouring into the cuts which I had made. After a while I got to see the circuitry and some later I could take that out of it. Below the resin I found 2 wires, embedded in silicone which is easy to remove. I did cut a bit off the isolation on the wires as I went to deep with my screwdriver, so a next time I would be even more careful. But the copper was still intact luckily.

    Resolving resin is not easy. It seems paint stripper can melt it to some extend. But you do not need to take the rein away (that is, if your faucet has the silicone below the circuit, like mine).
    Mine works, rotating it fast generates up to 15V AC, but it takes a lot of breath (your handy tool will help a lot).
    Good luck with next one. Thanks for sharing. I was almost going to make a video, but my comment on your video will help out others as well (if they read them).

      Thanks deslo, lots of people had said how difficult these are, but I haven't seen a video yet. Now I know what the inside looks like I can approach it in a different manner. I am currently trying a few different solvents, no luck so far and I don't want to spend more on solvent than I do on the faucet light or that would be silly :-)
      I will cut and paste your comment into the video description so people can find it if they look.

      Hi Thanks for sharing...these little generators produce 15V AC ?

    All well with your video/ But you messed up everything when the main circuit was shown in focused & blur ☑️☑️😭
    Other wise the dismantle and rest was good 👍

      Yes, that was very frustrating, however, the circuit is just a rectifier bridge of 4 diodes, and my interest was the 'generator' rather than the circuit. Here is PART 2 - Grandad vs the Faucet Light - round #2 ua-cam.com/video/N2-3XjeAQ50/v-deo.html You will find more information in the video description.

      Extremely unlikely as it runs in water. Or do you mean the LEDs failed?

      @@GrandadIsAnOldMan yup. LEDs stopped putting out light in 2 uses.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  Рік тому

      My interest in them was the extremely efficient generator, which could be why your LEDs failed. Generating too much power if your water flow was fast enough 👍

      If you mean the hand held fan, I replaced the fan blades with a couple of magnets. The spinning magnets are what is turning the faucet light.

    Hi. So it doesn't run on batteries at all. Nice! Please, where can i get some of (exactly) these? Thanks in advance.

      I bought mine on eBay but I expect most online stores will have them. I did this video in 2014 so I haven't had any reason to look for them since then. You will find more information in the video description.

    how it change the color on temperature???

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  8 років тому

      +Br S the ones that change colour with temperature will obviously have a temperature sensor circuit inside them. However the chances of identifying any component parts from the circuit board are very unlikely as it more or less gets destroyed trying to get it out of the resin that seals it all together.

    My light went out ,how do I replace the battery?

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  4 роки тому +5

      They don't have batteries. The power is generated by the water flow. If yours has stopped lighting up it might just be some dirt has built up inside stopping the rotor from spinning so you might be able to clean it with a fine wire. Other than that it is virtually impossible to repair as I showed how difficult it is to get apart.
