  • A short video about using triangles in classically inspired mosaics.
If you are following the classical rules of mosaic making, should you use triangles or not?
If you do include them, how and when is the 'correct' way to use them?
This video shows you how and when to use triangles and explains the 'nip the tip' rule which helps triangles seem less noticeable among a sea of squares.
To access a full pre-recorded mosaic class which will explain all the Roman rules follow this link: helenmilesmosaics.org/product...

Thank you for this excellent instructional video, Helen. Your demonstration of the difference between the intentional use of triangles and using triangles to fill in space is very clear.

The rule about using triangles was so helpful! I had been using triangles in my mosaics and I always had a feeling that there shouldn't be there. Now I know why.

It would be interesting to see the same antelope, but with applying the Roman rules to visually compare.

Yes, that would be an interesting comparison. It's a shame that mosaics take so long to make, otherwise I would be tempted to follow up on your suggestion. 😀

I just completed my first project, using triangles. The grout I used is off white (stock on hand) I would like to paint the grout to match the glass mosaic..can you recommend a paint ? I am looking forward to watching and learning from your channel. Thank you 🇨🇦

Congratulations on completing your first project. I'm afraid I haven't had to paint grout before so I haven't got any recommendations but make sure that which ever paint you choose will withstand the weather if it's going to be outside!

Why don't you redo the antelope using the Roman rules so we can clearly see the difference?

That would be a fabulous teaching too, I agree! If I find the time I will certainly do it. 😀
