I absolutely wrecked the rest of their troops. It was so bad that I put my Army Group on aggressive, and I was overrunning them.
I always micro hard, it limits my manpower losses extremely....I concentrate large quantities of divisions on one single tile, picking the tile with the most attack directions, try to pull off encirclements that way. Usually even if I can't pull of the encirclement, the enemy will retreat realizing the danger of the possible encirclement, and I gain ground anyway.
dont know why anyone wouldnt make their own rubber/oil when almost no country has them, seems pretty stupid to rely on a colony in the as end of nowhere
Well for the US you obviously have all the oil you need. But you do have a problem with building slots. So I usually just import from dutch east indies and garrison them. It saves building slots as one civ gets you 8 while one refinery would get you 4 at most.
I always have the issue as the UK where in the eastern Med italy and Germany keep bombing my ships and I am losing ships left and right even when I challenge there air power they still destroys a large part of my navy any tips to counter this
I target AA first with strat bombing. If you don't, you could lose hundreds of bombers in a few days. Did some bombing on UK ports with port strikes to force the fleet out of port. Didn't target their AA and lost around 220 bombers and 145 fighters in 5 days. Made up 70% of my casualties. Switched to bomb the AA and even with just 3 damage levels (out of 5) that dropped to around 10%.
@@dustinl796 True, I usually then leave 100 or so medium bombers on strat bombing after the initial attack on the AA just to maintain the damage. That seems so far to prevent their repair. I'll need to do more testing on that though.
Well the encircling Capital part works well in multiplayer. For example if Italy doesn't take France's capital on that island beside Italy's mainland then they can just keep Convoy raiding the Mediterranean and ruin the entire supply for France in Africa
Dustinl796 Videos Italy is usually obligated by the rules to have to take Corsica if it’s undefended bc it’s completely unfair and takes the fun out of the game to just slowly die and lose all supply bc of Italian convoy raiding
I'm in part of like 60 different Discord servers and for some reason I have never seen that rule. I've seen rules about no one circling Capital but they've never really considered that technically and circling it which is kind of dumb in my opinion
I made lvl 5 forts along the Soviet border as Germany and then when I declared war they kept attacking the forts and drain their manpower. When their manpower were at 0, I basicly won the combat instantly so it was not hard getting to the victory points.
You don't need SPGs to engage infantry. Tanks and infantry that accompany tanks have enough soft attack. Two key things are: hardness and armor. Higher the percentage of your division hardiness, higher the percentage of hard attack that enemy infantry must use. And infantry have poor hard attack, unlease it is MP human made infantry. If your armor > enemy piercing, you will recive half the damage and cause 50 % more organization damage. Well that 50 % could be 40 %. Because organization is what determine win, by having armor > piercing your division is effectively 2,8 to 3 times better.
Usually in multiplayer people will have six or seven hundred defense before modifiers so it actually is kind of important sometimes to have self-propelled guns inside of tank divisions
You have forgot the German way of encirclement - Tanks Breakthrough. Just concentrate tank divisions ( at least 6 per sector) , that will let you to do Mass tank attack in single point.
Oh I agree that you should have as many tank divisions as humanly possible that can breakthrough but to be honest I got on tank production pretty late is I was concentrating on strategic bombers early in the war so I could push through the Maginot Line If I wanted to
@@dustinl796 there are many ways to break the Maginot line... bunker gets damage if combat happens in it is zone. Also atillery have bonus against forts. And with CAS you can just dismantle Org. of defenders and make them flee leaving the Maginot...
Is it always a good idea to be constantly upgrading your equipment? I am finding I am not even making enough guns for example to full equip my armies before I have upgraded to the next one. Also if you are at an equipment deficit in something should you build up a surplus first before upgrading to the next tier?
Normally ill go into production and turn on (outdated equipment) ill then put a few mills on there and 4 or 5 more mills on current weapons and upgrade as needed sense old equipment is cheaper
@Dustinl796 Videos I used the light spg tank divisions you showed in one of your mp videos and I broke benelux and northern france in a matter of minutes

Very, very, very good. What you did here, you uncovered serious [!] bugs and game issues and showed us how to exploit them. For the sake of the game, the quality and the standard, you should stick your video in the official HOI4 forum, urging that these (gamebreakers) be eliminated/corrected asap.
It's bad to use game issues like broken supply feature for wining. How this is different from using cheat codes? Just draw yourself a picture "You are a winner! Good boy!" and place it on your screen. It will be even faster and more easy.
Thank you for these tips. Already did the things like encircling the capitals and screwing up their supplies or using different kinds of armor for specific tasks. Also knew civilian factories were important, as in my very early days I didn't emphasize on them and lost my wars. Just never got to go after the ones of the enemy. I am not that great with offensive in air warfare :( any advice on improving my air warfare play?
Depending on who you're playing as what I would suggest is have as many of your Fighters as possible follow your army group that will do the most attacking, select a bunch of your fighter Air Wings and then right click the division. Make sure you turn on air superiority and also use Cas the same way and I'll just simply follow them around giving support when able
Well sort of. The way Hearts of Iron 4 air combat works is kind of tricky. For example if somebody has Fighter 1's and you have heavy fighter 1s you can have less and when because of other statistics are added in the battle like who has the most range, who has more agility, who has more Etc. Really most of the time though if somebody has more advanced planes than you even if you do have more than them they will still win and take your planes out in a 1 to 4 ratio
im playing this game for 1 month, i learned some templates with grisha but the part of france and ussr is so hard, in france i just winned one time, i got stucked in belgium, ussr is a nightmare for beginners, i watch some videos and looks like so easy. ps: my logistics is normal. Edit: I defeated ussr in 1940 for the First time, i invaded in 38, is just you go attacking the weakest troops 11 Infantry, 2 artillery, that game needs patience.
Well yes and no. How it would work for the United States as an example is this. The supplies would originate from Washington depending on the infrastructure level, then they would go to the port where they would leave to go to the US troops in Europe. The supplies are then transported by using convoys and then either remain the same level of Supply or less depending on the port they go to so they can resupply
Usually it depends on who you're playing as and what you need, as Germany I'll usually build civilian factories until 1937 and then by about mid 1937 I'll start building synthetics for about half a year and then start building military factories for about a year before the war
Well to be honest hearts of iron 4 mostly runs based on how good your processor is, personally I have a GTX 1080 TI 11gb, 32 gigs of RAM, and a i7 8700 k
Once you have completed one "lane" of land doctrine, if you pursue the other "mutually exclusive" would that negate the finished doctrine? Example, Mobile warfare...I finished all the way down to modern blitzkrieg, but, then I wanted to do desperate defense....
it took me 160 hours in hoi4 to realize that you have to assign a mission to planes i was losing every war then when i realized it all the red turned into green and i started winning a lot
While talking about strategic bombing, it never seems to work for me. I have air superiority with tactical, cas and fighters. But it seems not to work as often, and when it does not si efficiently. However I've watch your video about strategic bombing, but can't do it in my own. Any tips? Love your video by the way!!
The way strategic bombing works and I didn't really go into too much detail in this video about it is they will only do missions once or twice a day. One really cheesy thing to do is split the volume of bombers up into how many targets you would like to bomb. So say for example you want to Target military factories, civilian factories, and infrastructure you would divide the bombers by 3, now that you have three Air Wings, split them a few times so there will be alot more bombing missions to do damage but don't go under 20 planes per wing. Now tell the three different groups to attack those specific targets so you have four groups attacking civilian factories, four groups attacking military factories, and four groups attacking infrastructure. As you can tell you really need a lot of bombers if you're going to do it this way
But wouldn’t troops slowly becoming less combat effective if a capital is encircled represent a nations high military commend being killed there by more or less making every unit have to learn to fight without a command structure? Idk just thinking of possible reasons it can exist it that way.
Not rlly. I think if that was actually the reason behind the feature the units wouldn't lose equipment and not be able to gain it back when you have a 400000 rifle stockpile
Regarding the Strategic Bombers ,so is it worth investing on them by start researching and then producing them as soon as possible? For example even when playing USSR or of course UK???
when i start a game as German Reich i always full buff the allies, i end up invading france easily, but after that invading the soviet union .. 1k + divisions 50k airplanes its literally impossible to break thro their lines even with 40width tanks..

Oh definitely by far. When using tanks I hardly ever use a battle plan, most of the time that's only for infantry divisions
^^^this^^^
I always micro hard, it limits my manpower losses extremely....I concentrate large quantities of divisions on one single tile, picking the tile with the most attack directions, try to pull off encirclements that way. Usually even if I can't pull of the encirclement, the enemy will retreat realizing the danger of the possible encirclement, and I gain ground anyway.
i prefer drowning the enemy in cheap tanks, but to each his own
Exactly this. I'm pretty new to the game, and I can't stand how often I find single infantry divisions trying to Duke it out with tanks.
dont know why anyone wouldnt make their own rubber/oil when almost no country has them, seems pretty stupid to rely on a colony in the as end of nowhere
Well for the US you obviously have all the oil you need. But you do have a problem with building slots. So I usually just import from dutch east indies and garrison them. It saves building slots as one civ gets you 8 while one refinery would get you 4 at most.

In the second one by "take" they meant "encircle"
Yup I'm confused as well
I always have the issue as the UK where in the eastern Med italy and Germany keep bombing my ships and I am losing ships left and right even when I challenge there air power they still destroys a large part of my navy any tips to counter this
Yea, air is op now
I target AA first with strat bombing.
Yeah but civs can get repaired so quick by the civilian factories if it's in multiplayer
@@dustinl796 True, I usually then leave 100 or so medium bombers on strat bombing after the initial attack on the AA just to maintain the damage. That seems so far to prevent their repair. I'll need to do more testing on that though.
My problem with this game is in the construction and the unit building, I never know how much I should do of what type and when for both
which is strange because i was great at hoi3
any tips ?
always go for alota civs then mills when you can later.
Dustinl796 Videos how long is later? like when it's become 'total war' as they call it? 41-43?
Dustinl796 Videos by the way thank you for the response, you've gained a sub. do you accept steam friend requests ?

Unfortunately stuff like draining manpower and encircling capitals isn’t viable in multiplayer :(
Well the encircling Capital part works well in multiplayer.
@@dustinl796 I meant that most mp servers ban that kind of stuff bc its not fun for china and russia
I'm in part of like 60 different Discord servers and for some reason I have never seen that rule. I've seen rules about no one circling Capital but they've never really considered that technically and circling it which is kind of dumb in my opinion
Ah
I made lvl 5 forts along the Soviet border as Germany and then when I declared war they kept attacking the forts and drain their manpower. When their manpower were at 0, I basicly won the combat instantly so it was not hard getting to the victory points.
Yea i love draining mp
Hey man i love your vids and you should keep it up. Could you please upload more playthroughs or twitch vods though, i find them pretty entertaining
I've been trying but it's kind of difficult to find a game that actually goes over pretty well when you're looking for random matches LOL
Convoy raiding has the added bonus of forcing the enemy to set shipyards to convoy production, reducing the amount of boats pumped out.
basic tanks have high breakthrough, no other tank types have that so that why you should have a lot of them so your tanks can keep attacking
Well you don't eat a lot of them usually
I just got on hoi4 today, it updated to 1.7. I’m confused.
I don't think the patch is actually out yet but I could be wrong
@@dustinl796 patch went live tuesday
Thanks for the amazing tips, keep up the great content 👌
Glad to have helped :-)

@@dustinl796 Defense give 90 % protection, in counter to 60 % when there is no defense points left. 10 % of attacks will stile pass threw.
It would be nice to know what is the best infantry template for winning. I just cant get it right
Actually I do have country template guides on my main Channel page. If you check on my channel and go to playlist you'll see them
You have forgot the German way of encirclement - Tanks Breakthrough.
Honestly I just get tanks with a lot of breakthrough, soft attack, organization and then use Fortress Buster now
I like it how he didn’t invade Deluxembourg™
Nice 😁
The Cute Dog Lola it’s AI, pretty much anything can work, look no further than the stuff ISP did in hoi4
Of course SPG art works good vs infantry. But AI in Hoi 4 is very weak. You should empower your enemies (Increase country strength or choose veteran/elite difficulty) to do a real test of your templates.
My pc cant handle late game majors with buffed strength, sorry
Mm, Light SPG, yum
i didnt know the paratrooper ability all this time.. ive just been encircling netherlands by land on its port so that Uk wont be able to send troops via the ports in belgium, guess time to try it out now

We will remove it’s factories and retreat to Germany >:D
System: *France surrenders when I paratroop in Paris* D:

Very, very, very good.
What you did here, you uncovered serious [!] bugs and game issues and showed us how to exploit them. For the sake of the game, the quality and the standard, you should stick your video in the official HOI4 forum, urging that these (gamebreakers) be eliminated/corrected asap.
Which things do you think are game-breaking?
It's bad to use game issues like broken supply feature for wining.
How this is different from using cheat codes?
Just draw yourself a picture "You are a winner! Good boy!" and place it on your screen.
It will be even faster and more easy.
Because it takes the fun out of it
“Number 6 is to remove the ability’s enemy to fight”
Really good and useful video!
Thanks!
Well, thank you.
So, air combat is basically just having a bigger number of airplanes than the enemy, in the given battle area?
Well sort of. The way Hearts of Iron 4 air combat works is kind of tricky. For example if somebody has Fighter 1's and you have heavy fighter 1s you can have less and when because of other statistics are added in the battle like who has the most range, who has more agility, who has more Etc. Really most of the time though if somebody has more advanced planes than you even if you do have more than them they will still win and take your planes out in a 1 to 4 ratio
Thanks. Well, now I can't wait to get home and try on a new game.
im playing this game for 1 month, i learned some templates with grisha but the part of france and ussr is so hard, in france i just winned one time, i got stucked in belgium, ussr is a nightmare for beginners, i watch some videos and looks like so easy.
ps: my logistics is normal.
Edit: I defeated ussr in 1940 for the First time, i invaded in 38, is just you go attacking the weakest troops
11 Infantry, 2 artillery, that game needs patience.
I got my ass beaten by Hungary
which INF and Tank Division temlates did u used in this vid?
Under my Germany template guide video I used the template that had 4 self-propelled artillery and all the other stuff
Thanks for ur tips man
Wait, are the supplies delivered throu convoys? I though it was by ports
@@dustinl796 oh, I always though it was from port to port and it cannot be intercepted
Gangster tactics tbh, like those paratroopers deleting factories
What do yall think of light autocannon tanks for general anti-infantry work?
Nice vid. :) tips on production? I usually spam civilians untill the war gets close then I do mills
Usually it depends on who you're playing as and what you need, as Germany I'll usually build civilian factories until 1937 and then by about mid 1937 I'll start building synthetics for about half a year and then start building military factories for about a year before the war
What specs do you need for this game? Looks pretty cool.
Well to be honest hearts of iron 4 mostly runs based on how good your processor is, personally I have a GTX 1080 TI 11gb, 32 gigs of RAM, and a i7 8700 k
Supply system needs complete rework. Make it flow from factories, not from capital
agreed
What is your pc specs Dustinl? Thinking of building a new pc.
Gtx 1080 ti 11gb, 32gb ram, i7-9700k cpu
Don't you have any guides for Kaiserreich? That would be good
Unfortunately not, I was planning on doing it a while ago but I kept getting distracted with hoi4 videos
Once you have completed one "lane" of land doctrine, if you pursue the other "mutually exclusive" would that negate the finished doctrine? Example, Mobile warfare...I finished all the way down to modern blitzkrieg, but, then I wanted to do desperate defense....
If you went to the other side of desperate defense you would only lose the side you were currently in.
I thought this game was pretty realistic until I saw this
Thank you for this video, it was pretty interesting and i even learned some new stuff :)
Glad to help :-)
it took me 160 hours in hoi4 to realize that you have to assign a mission to planes i was losing every war then when i realized it all the red turned into green and i started winning a lot
As you can tell you really need a lot of bombers if you're going to do it this way
Okey, thx alot, wil try it soon 👍
But wouldn’t troops slowly becoming less combat effective if a capital is encircled represent a nations high military commend being killed there by more or less making every unit have to learn to fight without a command structure? Idk just thinking of possible reasons it can exist it that way.
Not rlly. I think if that was actually the reason behind the feature the units wouldn't lose equipment and not be able to gain it back when you have a 400000 rifle stockpile
LMAO Paradropping into Paris is hilarious! 😂😂😂
Regarding the Strategic Bombers ,so is it worth investing on them by start researching and then producing them as soon as possible? For example even when playing USSR or of course UK???
If the enemy isnt going hardcore into plane production yes. But if they are making fighters first then strat bombers
thanks for this video just bought hoi 4 and i cant even beat france
Hope it helped 😁
when i start a game as German Reich i always full buff the allies, i end up invading france easily, but after that invading the soviet union .. 1k + divisions 50k airplanes its literally impossible to break thro their lines even with 40width tanks..
50k planes!?!?!???
John Carter use paratroopers and naval invasions. Soviet troops will will be directed at the boarders and leave coasts/ Vic points weakly defended.
Also how 50k planes AND 1k divisions? How many 40w?
@@dankuser8303 i also full buff the Commintern. they have massive divisions and airplanes i cant break them with my 40w tanks.
@@johncarter449 always expand the frontlines if you're fighting an AI and lure them into a position where you can encircle them, don't mind losing some of your lands
Tank template, are they the same u references before or are these different?
Pretty much the same
Of course, playing the overbuffed reich with hidden bonus attack you can kill everything around
How many hours should it take playing to get to this level?
Hey! I'm mostly derping around because idk what to do, I'm a beginner with about 4 hours so I know like the controls and some tabs. But I really don't know how this game works and every tutorial wastes 40 mins on basoc stuff I know. What did you watch to learn the game? And what do you recommend doing to get a good feeling of the game I've already playes as USSR and Germany.
To be totally honest with you on my main Channel page I probably have 40 or 50 guides on different specific Basics like how to launch Naval invasions, how to use tanks, how to make a tank division and several other things like that that don't take 40 minutes showing the entire guide itself but instead showing direct tips
Really man? You couldn't recommend him to check out my channel page -_-

I need this because IRL it took Germany roughly 59'000 casualties before it won over Poland
It took me over half a million casualties in HOI4 before I won over Poland
I still can't beat Poland it's making me regret getting the game :l
I ally with my "allies" then garrison everywhere then declare war, boom, they didnt realize my troops got in their territory
Is the encirclement of the capital stopping supplies still the case or has it been changed?
yes but you still gain some supply (only a tiny amount) on towns or victory points

thanks for this helped a lot
so realistic this might help me conquer the whole world mysleft in real life
Some tip for manpower?
I am playing as Sweden and i constantly have problems with that, i'm not producing any troops, because i have a good army but my manpower is 0, i can't win the war against the United Kingdom and my faction don't do anything, so, the United Kingdom every day gets more troops and i every day get less options to invade him i'm stuck.
Sorry for my english, i'm not native speaker.
so question, with my USA playthroughs in the states I have all the infrastructure maxed but it keeps saying the previous bottleneck is Virginia even though its maxed, any idea on how to fix it?
Him: Use paratropers and sink convoys
Me: Ha ha heavy tank go boom boom
Any reccomendations for division loadout?
I reccomend turning on 3d units it helps
All I do is make a front line, and when I move my troops i just select the, and right click on enemy land
How do you get the bombing properties page to bomb enemy forts in my hoi4 I don’t have the option to pick if I want to bomb civ factory’s military factory’s or anything? I can only send my bombers to strat bomb in a air zone :(
He has a DLC (Man the Guns)
Funny fact I used a tactic like this as on a other game I named it the Wolves hunt because of the way it happen.
Which tactic?
Paratroopers Plus Tanks :D I wiped out Germany.
Selfpropelled Art is useless just put build those rocket trucks instead. I think people generally overestimate tanks and don’t utilize mechanized infantry enough in combination with tanks
Soviet Union is a pain to deal with, so much manpower and production required....
