I'm hooping we get a true heel turn for Black Adam, but they can keep it so that he's only turning "bad" as a mean to protect Khandaq. I enjoyed the movie. I give it a 4 out 5. The DCEU Joker just does cameos. Zod was a good villian and I'm waiting for Deathstroke to make a full return.
I loved Black Adam! I definitely want to see more Black Adam and Hawkman on screen! Black Adam has the wisdom of Zehuti (contrast to Shazam with the Wisdom of Soloman), which grants him the ability to speak any language. Although, I wished they leaned more into speaking Teth Adam's original tongue as it would've made his past more relevant. Definitely Riddler from the Batman. Honestly, I did want more of an explanation of Dr. Fate and Hawkman's abilities. I know more about them as a comics fan but I don't think it would be fair to moviegoers who were just introduced to them. I do think that it would be good for them to have their own movies. Like, tell us more about the helmet and Nth metal with their own origin stories.
Seeing all the promotion that The Rock was doing I was just ready to watch this movie and I was satisfied hope they come out with a part 2 , The Rock did an awesome job along with the other actors
Dark Side is an awesome villain! He was shown in a Snyder cut. They just didn't show enough of him. General Zod is a great villain also but I like the actor who played him in the original Superman. You also have Gorilla Grodd, Reverse Flash, Scare Crow, Red Hood and Lobo.. All of these would make great Villains for DCU if cast well and given enough shine to tell their story. The difference between MCU and DCU when it comes to villains, MCU gives equal amounts of time to tell the antagonist story as much as they do the hero. And also to be fair tony, one of the Gods black Adam got his powers and knowledge from would explain why he could keep up and comprehend common day language and situations
This might be the fastest review I've seen Tony post 😄 The movie wasn't bad, but it's not life changing either. It could definitely use more meat and potatoes, and less CGI. I have been sour on the Rock as Black Adam for years and, after seeing the film, he didn't change my mind. I just don't see him as Adam, and the American accent bothers me as much as I knew it always would. His performance leaves a lot to be desired as he's completely one-note. But he kick enough ass to make me enjoy seeing the character on the big screen. The villain was lame. He's like a dollar store, CGI Hellboy. At least they didn't spend a lot of time on him. The best DCEU villain is still General Zod, with Orm from Aquaman right behind him. I actually liked Patrick Wilson quite a bit in that movie.
@@josephwilliams8001 nah, I think for this movie its ok. He's not meant to be anything other than an one-note villain that our protagonist(s) are supposed to overcome. That's it. The problem is the DCEU is filled with these same lame, "cookie-cutter" villains that don't really do or mean anything. We can take him out the movie and it wouldn't necessarily make the movie any worse. General Zod was pretty meh. Not because of the performance, but because he also felt a bit like the typical, run of the mill villain. HOWEVER, at least we understood the character's motivations and Zod made a noticeable impact on Superman. He had to choose whether to adhere to his moral code and don't kill or let Zod kill an innocent mom and child. That same theme is present in Black Adam, but we already know Adam is not opposed to killing so killing Sabbac wasn't as cathartic. Although it was cool to see how BA finished him off. DCEU can't keep treading the same ground with their villains.
Honestly loved the movie and when me and the wife talked about it afterwards, we barely even thought of the villian, the rock made it completely worth our time! He killed the roll and the justice society were a solid addition!
Mr. Baker you nailed it on pretty much all of the review, but especially the issue of why ppl still leave before all credits are over. Marvel established this for me YEARS ago. Now if I’m in theater I wait, no matter what type of movie. If I’m streaming at home, I fast forward to make sure. Period.
Just saw it and man I was like "Now why did they kill off such an awesome character (Dr. Fate). I would actually love a Justice Society movie. Also BA's wife was wearing that same necklace as the mom.
It was a fun movie 🎥 it’s a film about Black Adam I wish marvel made actual movies about their characters instead of tryna squeeze everybody in one film or make other people the main character in a movie that has nothing to do with them Great Review Tony
As someone who was much more dug into the MCU, I found myself comparing and contrasting the movie from start to finish. As such, I really, REALLY wish I was given more opportunity to understand the Justice Society and the relationship between Hawkman and Dr. Fate. Character development goes a long way towards connecting the audience to the players. When it's missing, the movie just hits different - in a bad way. As for the CGI... remember The Scorpion King? Yeah... say less! It's clear that most of the budget was spent elsewhere - maybe DJ's paycheck? I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying that today's audiences are more sophisticated when it comes to these VFX. If they can get us to believe dinosaurs and Golem, is it STILL that hard to get this right??? Overall, the movie was passable but, with flaws that will keep me from adding it to my collection. Great review, Mr. Baker! I'd give it three #SkibittyPaps out of 5!
Tony hit the nail on the head with this one. The whole ensemble was great but man when this whole villian aspect came in UGH it was terrible. Pierce Brosnan as Dr Fate was great and I wish he didn't have to die cause I would to see him dawn the helmet again.
I enjoyed Black Adam. Black Adam is portrayed truly as an antihero and someone who is amazing to watch and completely frightening at the same time. Dwayne Johnson is perfectly cast in the role. I like Hawkman-the hall monitor had slick weaponry and he could, and will, rumble. Doctor Fate has always been cool to me and he was cool in the movie. Viola Davis is Amanda Waller-perfect choice for that character. The non-superhuman heroes are likable and resourceful. We get a kid sidekick is tough, smart and not a nuisance. In fact, the boy himself could have been chosen to be Shazam's champion. The villain is what he needed to be-despicable and a threat. DC's villains tend be malevolent and destructive without personality. I actually like Steppenwolf but I understand why people did not like him. And it should have been Kalibak, not Steppenwolf. The best DC villains since the Nolan trilogy began are The Riddler and General Zod.
Just saw the film. Not to do the marvel world comparison, but I thought eterniun has a similar significance to Darhaq that vibranium does in Wakanda. It's used as a source of power in the colonizers of Darhaq's technology. And that end credits scene worth the stick around
I loved it and all its screenplay problems. But after seeing it twice now i really think u can have a lot of fun with this . BLACK ADAM IS A VILLAIN .. TONY
Whats up Tony! I loved the review because you made some great observations on the movie. I kinda understand why they didnt get into character development with this movie and I was hoping to share it with yall. I feel like DC is playing from so far behind to Marvel that they NEEDED this movie to be a change in pace. Marvel (and some dc) overdo character development so its become boring throughout most of the movie/shows. I feel like with black adam they decided to do a pure action movie (with an amazing end credit) but the character development will come with the next movies. I'm sure there will be spinoffs for hawkman and Dr. Fate so they got time to milk it. If they made a bad black adam movie then I think DC would fall off completely. The movie was 2 hours long so they did have to do a lot in a short amount of time. But didnt they have to do like 5 different cuts to it in order for it to be a decent run time and for it to be PG13? So the directors cut will give more depth. Anyways, Wonder woman already did the whole getting the superhero from the past to get reacclimated into todays society. That storyline is played out and would of taken away from how aggressive and powerful black adam is. Him being confused when he looked into the mirror was proof enough. Nonetheless, best DC movie ever. Especially when it comes to showcasing how powerful the character is. What do yall think?
The Z in Shazam stands for the Wisdom of Zehuti, Black Adam has instant access to a vast level of scholarly knowledge. He knows what stuff is just by looking at it
Dr. Fate seeing the future works in this movie because he's like 'I can see the future and it's tiring and depressing. I only do it when I need to, and I'm just looking forward to retiring.' So he's not flying around the field predicting every move like Dr. Strange.
I have yet to see Black Adam. I 100% do plan on seeing it, tho. 😉 I will say that I'm surprised that the DCEU tends to have issues with villains, because they actually seem to, imo, have better villains than the Marvel in the comics. The problem is translating the villainy onto the silver screen. Honestly, the MCU hasn't done an overall AMAZING job with their villains, but, yeah, I suppose they've done a BETTER job than the DCEU. Great review, as per usual, TB. 👍🏾
Today I watched Black Adam wow when The Rock said you want action dammnn he was not taking eazy on us. Black Adam destroyed devastating A.B.B.C fatality my mind loved it just like my normal daydreams.ranking eazy 4/5 my top 3 this year.
Good review Tone, I agree. And honestly I don't know why Green Lantern the movie gets a bad rep. It really wasn't as bad as everyone says it is. I believe that Hal Jordan used his power the way he was supposed to. His origin story was the way it was in the comics damn near. I think that Parallax is a dope villain and he was hard to beat. He was scary looking as fuck. I mean for God sakes, he had to be thrown into the sun to be defeated. We got the origin of Sinestro and how he turns on the Green Lantern corps. It was solid. And Taika Watiti was a good supporting actor for Ryan Reynolds. That's my opinion Tony. A lot may not agree, but I liked it.
Green Lantern was a movie of its time. It wasn't terrible nor great. Pretty mediocre movie and I honestly don't remember much about it because it doesn't have a memorable script or action sequence especially when you realize it released during time which superhero films continued to improve. Black Adam has some of the same issues, but the characters and fight scenes are significantly better.
I think the huge issue with Green Lantern was the CGI costume (b/c they could've just went with the custom made one) and Ryan Reynolds. He just wasn't a great fit personality and acting wise. He lacked the essence of GL.
Great Review and so true. This actually got me to see the movie. It was entertaining but I agree with the weak villain, cliche jokes, and moments. Since i went in with safe expectations i was able to enjoy the movie. they only helped the villain seem weaker, but having it called undead and just regular untrained people could fight them
Zod from Man of Steel is the best DCEU villain for me. He has a solid story and solid motivations. Man of Steel is really slept on

The villain was lame. He's like a dollar store, CGI Hellboy. At least they didn't spend a lot of time on him. The best DCEU villain is still General Zod, with Orm from Aquaman right behind him. I actually liked Patrick Wilson quite a bit in that movie.
I 100 percent agree!
The villain looked just like the comics...Are u saying they should have changed his look?
Lol wtf are u even saying that man is black Adam behave
Period.
The thumbnail 😂😂
Love these reviews Tony. Great job.
Just saw it and man I was like "Now why did they kill off such an awesome character (Dr. Fate). I would actually love a Justice Society movie. Also BA's wife was wearing that same necklace as the mom.
Dr Fate is not dead. That helmet can choose someone else like the Green Lantern ring.
@@kinghill82 that makes sense to hawk man being able to turn the helmet on after Fate died
8/10 for me. This movie was FIRE. We see you DC, trying to step y'all game up 💪🏾
My favorite villain hands down is lobo, STRAIGHT GANGSTA!
The main man
General Zod was a really good villain in MOS
Thank you for bringing back the original format Tony 🙏 I had stopped watching movie reviews when you changed it, now I'm back
It was a fun movie 🎥 it’s a film about Black Adam I wish marvel made actual movies about their characters instead of tryna squeeze everybody in one film or make other people the main character in a movie that has nothing to do with them
Great Review Tony
The Riddler in “the Batman” movie was pretty good.
I liked the line where hawk man was like we go in inch by inch and black Adam goes brazy
That movie was GOOD. I was so surprised! 🥰
Just saw the film. Not to do the marvel world comparison, but I thought eterniun has a similar significance to Darhaq that vibranium does in Wakanda. It's used as a source of power in the colonizers of Darhaq's technology. And that end credits scene worth the stick around
This is funny and epic and Jesus was icing on the cake hilarious
it was because of the powers that help him understand faster and when he had turned back to his BCE self he was speaking back his birth language.
😂😂😂😂😂 *throw hands up* here comes Hawkman and them wings! Funs over 😂
I loved it and all its screenplay problems. But after seeing it twice now i really think u can have a lot of fun with this . BLACK ADAM IS A VILLAIN .. TONY
Yessss best movie reviews🥰🥰
His thumb nails be mad funny
the hoodie cape made the fit look hard AF, it was ok nothing different from every other DC vanilla super hero movie
Great review..love the energy.
Riddler in the new Batman was good lol. He actually won 😂
Bruh. I almost burst out laughing when I saw that thumbnail.
It would be 🔥 if you were picked as a character in an upcoming movie. I think you'd be a great actor!
The Z in Shazam stands for the Wisdom of Zehuti, Black Adam has instant access to a vast level of scholarly knowledge. He knows what stuff is just by looking at it
That part
Oh ok I thought it was Solomon but he's got different gods.
Could’ve sworn it was S for wisdom of Solomon. He doesn’t get the other gods powers till the wizard Shazam takes his powers from him.
@@hutchysan3438 he’s always had a different pantheon. His are more Egyptian. Billy’s are more Greek
@@jmoll121 yeah you’re right, I always forget they use the same word because of the wizard but have different gods making up the pantheon.
At this point in my life, I don’t even need to see the movie as long as Tony sees it because I love the way you describe every movie u see😂😂😂 NWAACP
Man, I’ve missed this review music🧡
Dr. Fate seeing the future works in this movie because he's like 'I can see the future and it's tiring and depressing. I only do it when I need to, and I'm just looking forward to retiring.' So he's not flying around the field predicting every move like Dr. Strange.
I love your reference to Jesus resetting the time line 😎 GLORY!!!
“Yo, He died, man. Start the clock over.” 😂😂😂
Lol glad to see you back with the og set my dog
Tong Baker you are the GOAT!!!
Tony with the thumbnail... 😂🤣😅😆😁😄
Lol!! Hawkman the Supervisor! 😆
1st movie review that had me ROLLING 🤣🤣🤣🤣😩😩🤣🤣🤣
I have yet to see Black Adam. I 100% do plan on seeing it, tho. 😉
I will say that I'm surprised that the DCEU tends to have issues with villains, because they actually seem to, imo, have better villains than the Marvel in the comics.
Jesus resetting the timeline got me!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Loved the review (Chicago in the house)...The Joker is DCEU's greatest and most sadistic villain in their comic franchise history.
That is remake they need to do. I enjoyed that movie when came out.
@@missklassikiya Yes. Absolutely.
@@atlien1988 I disagree.
Since i went in with safe expectations i was able to enjoy the movie.
they only helped the villain seem weaker, but having it called undead and just regular untrained people could fight them
It was hella refreshing and funny having THE ROCK act like he didn’t know what a Catchphrase was 😂😂😂😂😂
