This is the third video on stitching the chaffinch, this video shows all the stitching down the back, wing and tummy and it even shows all the finishing, stitching all the extra colours and shading. With this video and the previous ones, you will be able to stitch any bird you like.

I have been doing embroidery for years. Most have turned out awful. I am so grateful that you are showing the right way to do it. Maybe my next project will turn out looking half as good as yours.
your tutorial is wonderful , the bird looks natural, you have used only stem and back stitches your speed , thank you Ruth.
Hi Sharada, do you mean you would like the video to be slower? Thank you for the lovely comments
Thank you for the video, hope to see many more. Could you show the beginning of the new stitches a bit slower before fast track again. Would love to hear your colour selection.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I did a few slower videos so I hope these help?
Very beautiful. Thank you for this video sequence, I really enjoyed it
Great video! I thoroughly enjoyed watching them!
I'd loved to have seen him closeup for a little longer at the end!
+wonderwend1 Thank you for the advice, I have done a few smaller pieces of embroidery in real time since then as I understand that is a problem, I am sure I will do another bird soon, they didn't call me The Birdie Lady for nothing in the framer :) I will try to slow down a bit for the next one
Thank you! I will make another video after Christmas for you and see if it shows the stitching more clearly
+Ruth Norbury why you show on you tube sooooo fast ////??/how can we learn??/
The embroidery is very very lovely, may i kindly know r u using stem stitches?
I love ur hand embroidery very much, may i suggest some tutorial clips on ur artswork?
I do enjoy your videos
Thank you!
I think I will be doing another video after Christmas so I will be more clear in that one
Teresa, I hope you try again, I am sure it will turn out well next time and if you get stuck, please contact me. I am planning to do a new embroidery video tomorrow, so that might be helpful for you too as it should be done in real time.....well that is the plan anyway! Thank you for the lovely comments.
That is so good to know, thank you. I will definitely do a video at normal speed after Christmas.
Thank you MrsIndependence1808. I will do my best! I am stitching a new video today, I should have it ready in the next few days so if you subscribe I think it will let you know when there is a new one. By the way your little picture (avatar?) is great! Love it :) P.S. Feel free to share the video if you like it
I have not come across stem stitch for filling before but it is very affective. I will try it.
That's great! I could never get on with long and short stitch personally so this worked for me
@@ruthnorbury53 absolutely! It's what works for each individual. I am a novice and learning as much as I can. The chaffinch you created definitely has a different look to long and short stitch. He is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing 😁
@@elizabethmay7262 Aww, thank you
Wow.. I will definately do this in foreseeable future!
I loved this video!!!!
Absolutely stunning! More more more!
This video really helped me. Thank you!
Loved this so much. Is it possible to show this technique ina slower motion on a small design. This way We can see clearly how the stitch is ,are. Gorgeous work!
Vanessa Jones you can slow down the video in the settings when you are viewing the video ☺️
Absolutely brilliant set of videos. Many embroidery videos I’ve seen either: lack clearly showing the techniques used; have such simple designs that you question whether your goal can be accomplished; leave out critical information like needle type, thread thickness, and so on; are devoid of personality and charm; have annoying music (though this did go on for a little long... 13 mins of the same song); has awful video or audio quality (though the lighting here could be better). You’re so awesome! Thank you!
HI Ruth, I enjoyed your video. Your work is absolutely stunning and your explanations are very helpful! As a viewer, may I make a few suggestions as per your offer to do so? After you show how you thread and knot your needle at the beginning, have the remaining needed pre-threaded to save a wee bit of camera time. It would be helpful if you could show in real time motion the first few stitches in each section before speeding up and adjust the supersonic speed down a bit so viewers can see where you are putting the stitches in each new section, although I realize you are under time constraints. It will take a few more minutes for my eyeballs to stop vibrating :). Keep up the great work and will be checking out more of your videos. Thanks!
I really appreciate your reply, thank you. I had this comment quite a lot, so I made a video that was slower and one in real time, so maybe these will be better and I hope your eyes regain focus soon!
Great job
Thank you!
Hello I'm Evonne, a first time commenter and new subscriber. I agree with wonderwend1, I know this is a old video and I will be checking out your new post. But just a suggestion, could you go back to normal speed when you start your detail work and explain what you are doing? Even when I slow it down it's still hard to understand what you are doing. Also when you finish a row, are you just going back up to the top from the back to start the next row? Could you also show that at normal speed and explain what you are doing? I llove what you are doing. Keep up the Great work.
Sorry, yes it is a bit fast insn't it. You might find the answers with the lotus flower video I did, that is done in real time
Beautiful we get these in France but you go too fast to follow you have great talent!....Thank you
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback
Beautiful! Which colours did you use to darken up the bird? It was hard to tell (under the beak, cheeks, and feather). Thanks!
Oh, now that is a question I am struggling with! I guess I would advise to just see what works well, do a few stitches and you will soon tell if it needs a bit more or a bit less shading. Sorry, it was a long time ago.....
@@ruthnorbury53 Thank you so much, I appreciate it :)
about the shading that you added... is that done in stem stiches too?
Ok Ruth please do more soon
Lovely work will you let us know what silks are used
+janet tranter Thank you for the lovely comment, the threads are just stranded cottons
Es un trabajo muy delicado y bonito
Realy lovely
Thank you!
What thread are you using, it's so shiny and nice
At 10:00 when you start darkening the chest and face, do you have a hard time getting the needle through the thread and cloth? I do, is there anything you do to make it less difficult to push the needle through that layer of thread?
+Sabrina Camargo Good question! It isn't too difficult because the fabric I use isn't very thick, it is harder than just plain fabric, but it is not tricky. Occasionally it might be if I am trying to get through a knot or where I have tied off the thread, but I generally just wiggle the needle about a bit and going through at a different angle generally works well
wow! love it
Reem Azab Thank you so much
wonderful!!!
i think stem stitch is much better than long & short stitch for freathering and easier & neater too!
Thank you!
I agree with all the other posts. Lovely work, choice of colours etc. What brand of floss do you use, it seems to have more sheen than regular cotton floss. Thank you for your tutorials. Where are you located.? Do you offer classes? Thanks agAin for sharing your great technique and inspirTion
sylvia cleary Thank you for the lovely comments. I don't use a particular brand of thread, just whatever I have to hand. I will soon be living in Swansea in the UK. I don't run classes at the moment, but I intend to soon. I would be happy to let you know of any courses in the future
Perfeito maravilhoso amei 👏👏👏👏
Estan hermosos me en cantan Dios te bendiga
Muchas gracias :)
Just found your video. Gorgeous,
But could you please slow stitching down a bit? I’ll certainly help me with my techniques
Hi, thank you for you kind comments, I did hear that comment quite a bit, so I made a few more slower videos. I hope that is helpful
Would like to see you make a peahen, a cat too please
They would be lovely. I will see what I can do
ahhh thank you
I agree Julie Seldon!
Sorry about that, this is why I made the video about the lotus flower. Thank you for the comment though, it is very useful to know these things :)
Beautiful :-)
Hi, how long did you finish this beautiful design? :)
I appreciate your feedback. This was very fast, so I made other videos that are slower.
Lindo lindo seu passarinho ater paresi q tem vida.so falta mexer.kkkkk lena
I don't quite understand, but thank you for your comments about the bird. Xxx
I would love to make this little bird, but you are going so fast I can not see anything! I would rather you do 10 video's at regular speed so we could follow what you are doing! Your work looks wonderful, and I would love to try it, but am getting a head ache from all the fast motion! Thanks
Sami selden the speed hurt my eyes can’t even watch video
Aap bahot fast kar rahe ho so slow moshn me dikhao ples bahot bahot.. achhahe
Hi is it ok if you make it a bit more slowly step by step please bye
I find the music a bit irritating. Otherwise I think you are good. But work a bit on the technique of start and end of the thread, no knots and no tails on the bak ☺
Kenneth Stensrud Thank you for the comments, I have tried to fix the music problem on the recent videos. I will look into improving my skills, I am always learning :-)
I really loved the video! May I ask when do you use stem stich and back stich? What difference do they make? Thanks!
The stem stitch is for all the feathers , then there is satin stitch for his eye and the backstitch I use to outline the eye and small bits before the satin stitch so they seem much neater (don't ask me why, but it seems to make the tiny areas look much more accurate) I also do tiny backstitches around the eye as he has a tiny rim of colour around the eye itself. Stem stitch allows you to move the stitches into a neater curve than backstitch and just looks more feathery. I hope that helps, if you want anything clarified, please just ask. I hope you have a lovely Christmas and New Year
hi, lovely video and techniques!! i was wondering what kind of stitch do you use to do the shading? thank you!! x
Very beautiful, but it is hard to appreciate the work itself even the final product. It would help to learn to do some editing and close caption. Beautiful though, thank you.
Lindo
Thank you
It would have been nice to see some of the detail and texturing in real time, but anyway, he is beautiful!
But please, include captions and/or remove the song! It's very frustrating to listen to that loop for all that time, haha!
That's great to know, thank you.
I love the bird but was too much speeding up to follow even though it was in several parts.
Thanks for the feedback, I made another video of a wagtail that is much slower and a lotus flower that is stitched in real time. Xxx
The video is very fast, I'm sorry I didn't like because I couldn't see how you did it.
Watched all 3 of your videos for this, and really enjoyed it! Keep up the beautiful work, it's inspiring. :)
At the moment, I am trying to replicate Doctor Strange's Cloak of Levitation, and to fashion it into a coat or Victorian style over the shoulder shoal style design. :) It has some beautiful embroidery of an eagle all along the trim, which changes every few sections - it's super detailed!
ps- In future, could you leave more time at the end, to show off your work, maybe pan across the embroidery, so we can see all the details up close. In this video, there is 2/10ths of a second to see the final finished work! :o (see @13:05)
Thanks :)
lianac thank you so much for the kind words. I wish you all the best with your embroidery, I would love to see how it comes along. I really appreciate the constructive comments, very helpful thank you
Very nice instructional vid. Do away with the music and slow it up a little bit. Don't show where you unpick mistakes. I've seen other vids where they just jump over parts where it's the same stitch (like the chest). You do really beautiful work, so don't be in such a hurry to get through the vid.
I appreciate the feedback, thank you. I did stop using the music, but I also did more videos at different speeds, thank you for taking the time to write. Xxx
Thank you for being so kind
Please...no more music! And I’d love to see your stem stitch technique....another video please....
I just like watching but couldn’t really watch because video is to fast that it made my eye hurt and started a migraine. Your work seems fine but I couldn’t tell because I had to exit video before I pass out. The first video was at great speed.
I am sorry about that. I have heard the comment before, so I did make a video in real time too. Thank you for writing
The work done is too fast. One must be slow if you want someone to follow what you are doing
Yes please, do it slower, otherwise ir is imposible to learn anything
Thank you for the feedback, there is another video Called What Can I Sew in 20 Minutes which is in real time, that should be better for you. Xxx
Way too fast. Are you just showing your work or teaching. If teaching you need to slow down and camera needs to be closer to see how you do stitches.
You do it so fast that i can't even see the technique! :(
I am sorry about that. I did a different video in real time because it can be difficult to follow
Thanks for the feedback. I have other videos that are slower. Xxx
Noseve muy rápido
Sorry about that. This is an old video and I learned from my mistakes . I have slower videos now. I appreciate the feedback
Thank you for the feedback, I did other videos in real time so that you can see better. Xxx
demasiado rapido, no sirve para aprender
To fast
I appreciate the feedback. I get that comment a lot, so I made one of a wagtail that was slower and a lotus flower in real time.
