Saw Philip in London last year. Absolutely brilliant words fail me. Surely one of the great blues men around today bringing the blues to a whole new generation. Cannot wait to see him again.
Having seen Phillip live here in Southern California at The Julian Blues festival ( sadly defunct now) all I can say is “ He’s the REAL DEAL” !! Blew us all away that day……. I have the T -shirt from that year (2018) and on the back of it Phillip is walking away , Strat over his shoulder , into the Sunset. It’s one of my favorites. Too Bad Rob Bower doesn’t do that venue anymore. Here’s to 18 years that he did!! 👍👍
Very Nice! Makes me want to start playing again...I miss those smokey bars, the best kind of people, and drinks of all styles n shapes... I miss those southern nights playing in Florida.
You have never heard of him because record companies are more worried about jiggity jiggity music with no feeling no instruments and a bunch of fat ass dancing girls
Talk about in the zone, that was epic, you cannot deny the blues played like this, love the Strat kiss at the end its like a thanks pal not making that tones and allowing me to be free to play where l want, his tech should be proud, great upload CH..........
Toraboramusic he stuffs it between his index and middle finger, many players do this when switching to playing with their fingers, although I prefer the other response ^ lol
Philip Sayce played Cross Roads once. So, Clapton featured him. Sayce isn't taking off because the blues is a dying genre. Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and a dozen or so others are pretty much the end of a begone era. Anyway, if you like Jazz with some blues inflections try Joyce Cooling, she's great.
Honestly, so much goes into this type of tone. First, a loud ass amp, then some heavy gauge strings, pick ups will definitely help along with the touch and feel from the fingers. And then a hell of a lot of practice. This is probably one of my favorite videos by him, he definitely nailed it this night. He's awesome every time he perform. but this one just gives me goosebumps, especially after the 4 minute mark.
Just buying pickups isn't gonna give you this. Philip plays high action, heavy guage strings and plays beautiful but violently... I think Sayce has the best strat tone ever. If you want a similar tone without the powerful attack...buy a custom by cougar amp from Tommy Cougar. He has a "Mother" model. And he's made amps for Philip for years. Expensive but works. That's as close to plug and play as you'll get. A fender super reverb blackface from the 60s works well, older fender amps from the 60s, dumble etc,. As does a mesa boogie 100w dual rectifier roadster amp head.(Mesa's sleeper amp that has great cleans and dirty.) Worth nothing that Cesar Diaz modded Phils amps. Also a fuzz face is very important. With the volume on the guitar rolled back you get great glassy, clean tones. Check out some gear videos of Philip on youtube. He is more than willing to share everything he knows. Hope you get that tone you're looking for brother! 🤘🔥🤘
@@imstarz9123 Thanks Man, your proffesional answer is very much appreciated, and notes is being noted. I am just a 62 y regular humbucker guy, who never had the chance at a Stratocaster with a real feel.. BUT dont get me wrong...I rip hard, so I was thinking I might be getting that sound on an old plywood vintage white/yellow strat I got for 100 bucks..so I bought a kit of used afternarket re issue pics from Thomann and are having them installed right now. Stay tuned for updates on that sound hehe.. Again...thanks for your really informative answer Sir..😉
Just EXATCLY what I was thinking too. And I say this to myself ALL the time, "wtf is wrong with our music industry to allow such brilliant talents to be squandered in obscurity?" And then I tell myself, "f*ck 'em (the music industry), they NEVER appreciate these talents and now I get to know them and SEE them ALL to myself without these stupid people being involved... " BUY this GUYS music and SUPPORT him LIVE when we CAN!!
Can you feel the fear comes out from his eyes and fingers on the guitar? The guitar itself is also nervous because of the pressure on it, the pressure of success or trying to play something good. This makes me feel sad...
Ok mate that is an original song first of all and you know what?yes,it might sound similar to SRV if that was in your head BUT he has made his own touch with the style of playing he has developed . I dont think you appreciated or understand this sort of music and you should probably stop with these comments.

If I get the chance to see Philip, I’m getting front row seats lol... I got goosebumps from this version of the song.
Bring ear plugs. He plays LOOOUUUDDD! Killer, but really loud, and that was with his amp facing the wall behind him.
superb... both technically and a tremendous lot of feeling...
It’s like SRV , Gary Moore, and Jeff Beck got together and made a Frankenstein.
Masterful guitar player 👍
And Robin Trower!!
@@MrJohnnyb42 bingo.....that I what thought so too. Trower got that weird flange effect.
and Randy Hansen of course.
My fav solo of this song....I've heard many styles of this song
I couldn’t imagine seeing this live. I mean what would I do after. Amazing guitar playing.
What a feeling ! Pure talent!

5:08 reminds me of SRV live in Japan, when he tucks his scarf behind the guitar in the middle of the couldn’t stand the weather solo 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Incredible... pure feeling...! this is LOVE

Lol to that guy in the beginning who was talking shit about Philip's other strat
Pissed tosser by the sound of it..
Mother is back :) Masterpiece
Mesmerizing !

As a tone hound, I am lapping this up like crazy. Philip and Dan Patlansky are two of the best out there now.
I think Dan Patlansky is a brilliant guitar player. I wanted to see him when I was in South Africa in 2019 but it didn't work out
I've never seen something like this...Amazing!!

Wooo what a guitar palyer :)
Man I love this tune, amazing talent :)
Phillip is bad ass I could listen to him play all day absolutely amazing player he is definitely someone special
I'm in love, this boy is something. Fantastically awesome!
That's a performance !
Repeat button is exercised 🔁🤩🤍
Que feeling absurdo. Esse cara é incrível!
Wow! Lots of feeling! Awesome!
Um grande artista. Incrível O sentimento.
oooohhhhh...........wow
Super. Danke
Fantastic
Sweet, very sweet.
The playing of Sayce was great... but the video has a problem; it was like a letter box turned sideways! ?
Excellent
👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥
This song sounds so much better live
This guy is kool 😎
es interesante que pone unas cajas por delatente del equipo para atenuar el volumen del amp.
Love it..! Philip gets a lot of 'floor noise' though. Must be because he's playing through quite a few pedals/overdrives etc i guess..
A strat through a Fuzz, echoplex and a couple of loud amps does that... 😃
I almost feel like that 60 Hz hum is part of his raw tone and vibe though. It adds something that I like.
Where does his plectrum dissappear to around 8 min 14?
It was grinded into dust😂😂
Toraboramusic he stuffs it between his index and middle finger, many players do this when switching to playing with their fingers, although I prefer the other response ^ lol
Holy shit… amazing. Clapton and friends don’t want this guy showing up at their concert. He would show them all up.

SRV vibes like crazy!!!
O Sensei .🙇♂️
You should hear him play Daydream.
Top Notch.
Someone has the SRV chuckle down pat
Amazing sound...what pickups do I need for my Mex strat to get this sound ?

How is the best blues player in the world playing at such a dinky venue? A sad statement about our culture and the state of music…
