  • June 17th, 2018 --The Datil Mountains (also called The Sawtooth Mountains of New Mexico) are located in the Cibola National Forest (Magdalena District) on Forest Road 6A just off off US-60 in Catron County, New Mexico. This IMAX quality, never seen before seen view of the Datil Mountains was all captured on a DJI Mavic Air. I hear National Geographic calling! :D

This has got to be your best drone video yet! Well done! You captured all the areas you tried to film back in December when we went. I love all the unique angles that you captured! Thumbs up!👍👌

Thanks bro! It was very windy the 3 days I was there so I didn't get to fly much but I'm glad and fortunate that I got the footage that I did!

Breathtaking! So awesome! You did absolutely perfect! Love it! You captured the absolute best of the Sawtooth Mountains.

Thank you! It took me 2 days of drone flying to capture all the footage used in this video. I'd like to do a separate "Coronado & Odie" flight some day as well as some of the mountains just east of Monument Rock. Fall would be a great time to go back!

Clearly, the best way to see the Datil Mountains is to be a hawk! But this is the next best thing. Thanks for letting us fly along.

Eagles & Hawks have the best view ever! This is about as close one could get to have the experience of seeing what they see. Thanks for watching and flying along!

Well Done Rick and Crew! The red being on top and not the bottom is so unique in NM. The shot at 4:39, and others, is a confusing and wondrous scene. Drone up lol, the good kind!

    • @TheSouthwestBackpacker

Thank you. The features at 4:39 are very interesting and I have a geological theory behind how they were made that involves molten dust and hyper-sonic winds back when the earth (and southwest region) took on an electric discharge of a huge massive size from a passing large body (propably a planet) that caused much of the southwest to look so different from the rest of planet. Yeah, it's pretty far fetched but I've seen good evidence to back this theory up. :)

Electric Universe, D. Talbott would be a good contact for that. Seems not as far fetched as any others. However, the very left bigger stone does resemble a snake or turtle head, and the body could have been the jagged area to the right. ( slower movers lol? ) The electric discharge will not only work with this idea but it is also seemingly quite "sane" in comparison. Both have validity but need more scientific methods validated and not covered up or dismissed by specialist in their fields. I miss your online space talk "shows", but I love this backpacker series.

at 6:02 notice the whiter *sandstone? line going straight down? Should be noted maybe ) I'm off to google earth now to see what the background of this area does for me. Might be an elephant in the background here, far top right, facing right. ( If one, then others should be close, check proportion to the species not the size of the mass.. and I'm off ) Happy Days !!

I'm familiar with D. Talbott and Wal Thornehill and the EU project! It's quite the eye opener for those that haven't open their mind to the idea. Michael Steinbacher's work
      ua-cam.com/users/michaelsteinbacher
is what really got me observing more when I go out backpacking and hiking here in the southwest. Rick does the space talk shows exclusively. I just help sponsor his shows and do my backpacking channel here on UA-cam.

Any chance you could give me the coordinates? I live near by. Are there trail systems? I can seem to find any info on this area other than it’s the Cibola NF. Amazing video. Really makes me want to go before winter sets in!

    • @TheSouthwestBackpacker
      @TheSouthwestBackpacker  6 років тому

Thanks for watching! I greatly appreciate it. No, there are no trail systems in this area but there is plenty to explore and see. All of the features seen in this video can easily be accessed from the the main road. The coordinates to get you started will take you to Hwy-60 and Forest Road 6A: 34.266313, -107.984039 Just follow Forest Road 6A in about 3 miles and you will reach Monument Rock and other cool features in the area. There is an old brown Forest Service signs at the coordinates mentioned above. This area is not very well known to most people. In my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful places in New Mexico! Good luck!

Thank you so much! 🙏 I recently explored the Magdalena Mountains which also seem to be lesser known and they were spectacular. I’d love to see drone footage from the Observatory area haha. Looking forward to checking Datil out!

Glad I could be of service! The Magdalena Mountains are awesome! Thanks for the great suggestion. I've been up to the observatory many times and I think that would be a wonderrful place to get some drone footage. Stay tuned......

Plenty of forest roads, some unnamed. If you keep following 6a, to its end, you find yourself near our 40 acres of raw land. Will be relocating there summer of '21, w. our base in Pie Town. Still a little private land for sale in this wild range land, esp. near Bell Mtn. Beautiful.
