- I was brought an old and broken vise that a customer is wanting to save and use. I helped with the removal of a broken bolt, and drilling and tapping an area of the casting that was broken out. I'll use the tig welding trick on this one to remove the broken bolt.

Adam, when you brush remover on, only apply it in 1 stroke. When you brush it on with multiple strokes, the remover solvent evaporates. The thick goo is a type of wax to keep the solvent against the paint surface and force the vapors through it.
Welding that washer was pure genius I've never seen that technique

seeing that big old vise base chucked up in your big vise reminds me of when you see a huge Semi tow truck being towed by a bigger wrecker!

those wing nut swiveling 5/8 rod clamps ("heavy duty indicator base" clamps from the plastic bag are by Gem instrument Co. in Brunswick Ohio. they make real good stuff, and you can use them for all kinds of setups and positioning uses. they make a good range of sizes and products. no affiliation, just a fan
I use the washer trick too, the only difference is that i have this drawer of nuts i wallered out on the lathe just for this. Gives my torch and rod enough space to get to the bottom. Simple, quick operation. Chuck the nut, and then use a chamfering bit to cut it. Always good to have a variety of these on hand, makes life easier on the other end. Also, i found that the softer the metal on the washer, the worse the operation goes, BUT, that being said, it can't be too hard (like say a washer from stainless or something you'd find on a motorcycle, hardened washers).
Gotta love these problem solving videos from Abom79. If I ever start machining I think I'll get all the help, advice & tips from this channel... and probably a bit of Mr.Pete too will not hurt. Keep it up, dude!
While you were turning down those bolt heads I was thinking about how the rest of us poor plebs just chuck it into a hand drill, tape the trigger, and grab a bit of sand paper... hehe!

Drill the broken bolt out! Or put Mouse Milk on it and then a little heat!
