What else could be said about this power of nature of a woman? She is simply an encyclopedia of the singing art. Thank you so much for sharing this gem! I particularly enjoy the retained, heart-felt drama on her face when the aria is over. Brava!
Cecilia's emotional involvement in this aria is shockingly magnificent, unlike many of my favorite mezzo's whom I've heard perform this fabulous aria. She's unique, unforgettable, the best! Her ornamentations are the most expressive imaginable.
For me, Scherza Infida is one of the most beautiful song ever. It is not so often we can hear this song well interpreted. Thanks to Cecilia Bartoli. It is on of the best version with the one of Anne Sophie von Otter.
this aria is among my favourite from handel, i've heard so many different versions, but with Bartoli it is like hearing it for the first time, just breathtaking beautifull !
gerard barbier : Cecilia is at her very best in the encores! She has the audience on her side and then she can go out on a limp and risk putting that teaspoonfull more emotion and heart into it. Something a studio recording can never quite do.She can really do Händel justice as the great composer he really, really was. As a music professor at quizshow once said - there is so much wonderfull music in Händel that is nowhere near appreciated and played enough. Cecilia is generally very good, but in the encores she really moves away from the rest - that is if you want art. She really can make a receptive audience laugh and cry - and never forget. The really great thing about Cecilia is her constant search for new repertoire and looking in dusty archieves reading music like few can as she has her ton of experience and talent to search out that one ditty that really has merit - from a composer that otherwise is rightfully forgotten. Looking over the material she can see: "Oh! I can do something with that!" In an encore, she can also bring out the best music of the ensemble - and make them play better, than they really can! Sometimes there is a full blown false note; but that is a small thing compared to what we get, when they pull it off. She can pull an ensemble on dress tail. A very great artist and musician.
The Queen of recitals, I do not remember anything close to this in my entire life. A monument of an artist. Looking forward to her next recital in Barcelona.
UNIQUE!! This is out of this world. Never before have I heard this aria so moving, so touching! Here C. Bartoli shows that she's a true GREAT ARTIST! How very beautiful!! Thanks for posting this.
OMG..this lady is amazing I adore her and her voice. how she sing Scherza Infida with emotion and feelings.....this is so great. Cecilia you are and will be the greatest Diva ever...Bellissimo :)
So beautiful! I would happily pay for her concert ticket and just listen to this one aria and feel like I've got my money worth. Please, come back to the UK sometime soon, Cecilia!
@@noeraulgarciasaldivar7917 Oh dear. That went completely over your little head didn't it. The point you missed is that you know nothing at all about Daniel Schechter or the number of versions he may have listened to, but you still saw fit to make a smug and condescending comment. Like I said, just trolling.
Four thngs to say in response to your observation Mr Schechter: Firstly, yes, she perfectly captures the pathos of the piece, the lower register suffused with spine-tingling gorgeousness particularly. But, secondly, she deprived us of the recit... grrrrrr! Thirdly, I could have shot her for that verbal faffing around immediately preceding the performance, which, unforgivably, spoilt it for me. There's such a thing as platform protocol. (Can you imagine Janet Baker chuntering to her public prior to singing? Absolutely not. She not only sounds like a singer but, importantly, looks like a singer too, both 'ingredients' intact.) The split-second you appear you need to be completely focused on what you're about to do save obviously for briefly acknowledging the audience. I wonder she didn't blow kisses and invite everyone round to her place for tea. An OTT comment on my part? Not guilty. Fourthly, to return to her rendition: deeply, deeply felt and movingly expressed, the raw emotions suitably naked to both eye and ear, but I invite you to watch and listen to Phillipe Jaroussky in the piece. He inhabits the recit and aria >from the very moment he arrives on site as it were
Sometimes Handel just phoned it in, most of the time he did amazing arias for every voice and mood, and then sometimes he created something unbelievable, like Scherza Infida. This is one of the best versions.
Troyanos is still my favorite but this is amazing. I had lunch with Cecilia Bartoli in 1993 and she was lovely. I was the classical music buyer for Tower Records San Francisco in the late 80s early 90s and was so lucky. I understood and appreciated that I was lucky then but I get it more as years go by. I had lunch with Leontyne Price! I had dinner with Dmitri Hvorostovsky! I met Gwyneth Jones and Mirella Freni and Nikolai Gedda. I was allowed backstage at the SF Opera by Lotfi Mansouri. Opera is magical and I'm happy I learned about it when I was a youngster. It's completely changed my life.
The pain of betrayal in love imagined or real is alive in this music, but she embodies it in a way I have never seen. Her pain is so real. Beautiful. Tousand Tak.
Fenomenaal
Absolutely wonderful! One of the few truly "Great" singers around today. So much mediocrity hyped up as something special that it definitely is not. If I had to choose a favourite for this remarkable aria it would be Lorraine Hunt's recording simply because the beauty of her voice is so extraordinary.
Tobias Commissaris The whole opera is recorded w her as a bearded Ariodante from Salzburg 2017... was on 3SAT.de tonight! I couldn’t get it bec I live in France. So, I am on here listening to her every sung utterance to get a feel of it. My German friend’s were in Sublimeville!
This is absolutely mesmerising in a very deeply sad way..it makes your heart ache as if you were the betrayed one..Bartoli appeals to me more and more every day. I can not remember why i used to dislike her...
Yes, I also like the Jaroussky rendition but have trouble imagining him on stage as Ariodante. Peu importe- he has an amazing voice and talent for phrasing
Grazie Cecilia Bartoli
Is this on any of her recorded CD? This is the best version of the aria I can find on UA-cam. I hope she has it recorded so I don't have to suffer the other versions.

this is for me the most beautiful performance in the history of music.

Her mouth, visage and voice wring out every possible emotion; one of the great voices and performers of our time.
One of the greatest...

I totally agree, she really brings it to life.
Fagioli's version makes justice as well! :)

SHE IS FANTASTIC.THE BEST . CONGRATULATIONS FOREVER.(Los Ángeles Chile south america).
So beautiful! I would happily pay for her concert ticket and just listen to this one aria and feel like I've got my money worth. Please, come back to the UK sometime soon, Cecilia!
the best and most touching rendition of this masterpiece I have ever heard!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
...Bouleversant 🙏
Simply amazing! She has many colors and depths in her voice. Thank you for sharing!
Subliem en prachtig! Het blijft me ontroeren. Wat een vaķvrouw!!
Phenomenal. She Is the original, the one to be set apart. Can't even be compared to anyone else.
Fantastic sense of drama and phrasing... captures the suffering like no one I have ever heard.

It's just amazing how she conveys the feeling of having been hurt and betrayed in this aria.
that is the worlds greatest singer, with out any doubt
Sublime !!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Unforgettable . Ariodante has so much to offer !
The pain of betrayal in love imagined or real is alive in this music, but she embodies it in a way I have never seen. Her pain is so real. Beautiful. Tousand Tak.
tres émouvant, merci pour ce beau partage.
A lot of hard hard work went into this moment.
I guess the thumbs down folks don't see it or hear it. Their loss.
Has any music ever better conveyed the agony and anguish of betrayal? And Bartoli does it full justice! Brava!
I want to see and hear her in the complete role. She is so moving when she sings this. She has no equal.
She IS the music..
How amazing

superbe merci pour ce beau partage.
As far as I know she didn't record this aria. We were very lucky to hear her sing this piece in 2010!
she sang it again! yesterday evening in Brussels!

A magnificent rendering of this aria .Difficult to sing.Note her immense control of the pianissimo notes.
She is one of the best! Bravo!
What a voice.
Nobody's voice lasts forever. Go and see her NOW ! You won't regret it.
Sublime! Beautiful! Great Diva, Salve!
The most dramatic and spine chilling rendition of this popular aria I've ever heard. Which orchestra??
harry bixler La Scintilla ZÜRICH ..... the old touring version

My God what is this...it's so beautifull.
Maravillosa
My remarks about this vocal and presentational offering are summarised in the section in which Mr Schechter shares his own thoughts with us.
Es fantástica
ASTONISHING!
Bellissima interpretazione!
Cecilia tu sei grande
Grazie Cecilia Bartoli
Magnífica!!

Geniale!
Es una excelente soprano
The right timbre, the right "affect", with repeated passages imaginatively (but never inappropriately) varied.... It's very good indeed!
... wonderful!
bella bella bella bellissima !!
Grazie, all is great here!!
gut wrenching....so beautiful.
sublime - her eyes tell it all - the pain is so beatifully portraid
Is this on any of her recorded CD? This is the best version of the aria I can find on UA-cam. I hope she has it recorded so I don't have to suffer the other versions.
You don't have to suffer. One of the best performances is done by Anne Sophie van Otter. Director Minkowski
Look at Franco Fagioli version! It's the best!
Lea Desandre shouldn't be overlooked either.
