      To be fair, I made something almost exactly like this thing 6 years ago, and when I factor in the time it took in R&D, prototyping and final production of the two units I have, they both probably cost me in excess of 1-2000$ each.
      Capitalism just works.

      Thank you very much. Truth is I was just a guy in his garage with budget ryobi tools and a used table saw 7 years ago. Only wood work class I ever took was in high school a million years ago. Just started making stuff and learning from mistakes and always reinvesting profits into upgrading my tools. Then a few years into it I started learning how to make content and edit videos by trial and error. Anyone can do it if they will put in the work 👍

    I've used a dust deputy with 5 gallon bucket for years. Recently got another cyclone separator off Temu for $15, attached it on a 55 gallon plastic barrel. I have two shop vacs I use them with. For the pre-separator parts, I'm around $80 for the two units, in total. I'm a hobbyist woodworking enthusiast working out of my garage, so that's all I need! Make some wood chips!

      I have a Dust Deputy mounted on a medium steel drum about 2 1/2 - 3 feet high that I place on top of my Cleantec. It's simple, works well BUT I don't care for the fact that there's no way of fastening the thing to the top of the dust extractor like you see here. Gotta admit, this is a well designed add-on product. I'm wondering in terms of performance how this compares to the cyclone style separators.

    • @1steelcobra
      @1steelcobra 10 місяців тому

      Compared to what you need to do to rig this type of cyclonic collector to other dust separators It's really not that bad. It costs more, but it's all in one stack. $1220 for this and a CT 26 versus $550-700 for a DeWalt setup where they're two separate rolling units, and 3M's extractor that's on Festool's level costs about the same but doesn't have that add-on as an option first party, you'd need to rig up something like DeWalt's options to it.

    I actually bought this thing and was not impressed. The build on the dust bucket was flimsy, not rigid, and it flexed noticably during use. I was also quite disappointed with the wonky manner of using straps to fasten the top cover to the bucket. The final straw was the narrow diameter hose between the separator and the CT. When I forst saw it, my first reaction was 'surely this must be a joke'. There was more than a noticable difference in performance between this thing and my Dust Deputy cyclone. I was happy to see it go out yhe door after having sold it on Marketplace.
    Never again.

      What? So if you see someone using Festool tools because he prefers them over Milwaukee China-Tools, that Break much easier and aren't repairable as soon as a new Version is released due to no available parts, you think that they haven't just bought them like every normal Person would? It's much better to buy something that won't break just once, instead of buying cheaper tools again and again because they aren't holding up.

      The way to tell if a "tool" is pointless, is to look at how many companies have their own expensive variation. dust collection is just like everything else in our modern over complicated world. in the old days, you would just have the new kid sweep the shop floor clean at the end of the day. now days there are whole ass systems with specialist technicians to install them just for dust collection. Its sort of like catalytic converters on car engines. the engine runs just fine without it, and once you add it, and all its associated sensors and computers, you have nothing but headaches if anything goes wrong with it.

Regular sawdust from most wood will land in the “separator” as intended, but lightweight shreds and dust from mdf, the fine powder wood-dust, and anything else lightweight like foam, pvc , etc. geos straight through into the main chamber and the fine dust completely clogs the main filter.
