- In this video I take a look at a noisy buzzing AA1164 Princeton Reverb amp clone I built a few years back. It has developed a noise problem. Especially if you turn up the reverb control.
My troubleshooting process involves isolating variables (swapping in tubes, checking a different speaker, reverb tank). I test voltages. I check the schematic.
For this issue I would focus on a few ideas:
1) Good tubes
2) Good reverb tank
3) Shielded cables to the reverb tank
4) Better grounding

It was aspirational to build such a complex circuit in such a tight chassis.

That’s a tight chassis to fit everything in! I wonder if it would be any different if your preamp ground bus also terminated on the power transformer lug.

Hi, your wire lead dress is a mess, you have the B+ wires running ll over the chassis, you have the Filaments interferring as well, they either need to be twisted and elevated or running very low to the chaasis near the wall, away from other wiring. The layout simply needs to be more thought out. Also, you have burned insulation with your iron, you have multiple grounds on the Chassis, it looks like spaghetti in there. There are many examples of fine lead dress as well as excellent tutorials on why and how to set up a circuit for tube amps. I applaud your interest and passion but before selling your work you need to become more pprofessional in m opinion. That's just my thoughts, I don't mean this in a cruel way, but I've built and wired many amps in the past and I have learned the importance of what not to do as well as what to do. As a side note, Teflon insulated wires in stranded and solid form is the best way to go for soldering in tight situations.

I really don’t want to be negative or discourage someone who put so much work into a project, but your wiring looks like a bowl of spaghetti… and running high voltage lines outside your chassis is just a very bad idea. As others have mentioned, the chassis is also way too small.
You should start with a less ambitious project, like a tweed Champ 5F1 kit, and learn how to do proper lead dress, solder joints, etc.
