If they do make a third and final film, it really should be tied to the animated show and those characters from the Nether World. Otherwise, it's an epic fail.
They are not in the sequel because they were able to find a loophole and moved on to the great beyond. I personally think it's a lovely way to send them off instead of them having to be stuck to the house for over a hundred years. (It'd have been really hard to de-age the actors with cgi, there's that too. Maybe no so much Geena since she looks fantastic, but Alec definitely looks too different plus he's much heavier now. Not to mention he's been involved in a legal mess after accidentally k illing someone in the set of his movie Rust, so it'd have been hard to get him in the movie anyway, maybe).
