Hi Kevin ,I watched your Tamworth castle vid the other day, cos I was born in Tamworth many years ago ,and found it most informative ,but when I saw this vid I was amazed at the Hugh Latimer story because we were visiting a little Warwickshire village called Baxterley some months ago and looking around the churchyard we were shown the grave of Hugh and his colleague ,in Baxterley churchyard! We quite enjoy watching your vids , especially when I found out that you were a bowman .sadly I had to part with my archery gear due to my shoulders being worn-out ! Anyway keep it up and we'll keep watching. T.M.

I have read a few articles regarding Hugh Latimer , including a short description of his life in Foxes Book Of Martyrs . However , I enjoyed your telling much more , as you included facts I hadn;t seen in any of my previous readings , and the passion in your voice while telling his story caused me to close my eyes and picture in my mind the happenings as they unfolded . Latimer would of been proud to hear a fellow Bowman tell his story , and who really knows for sure if didn;t hear your telling . We shall all find out one day in the life to come . Thank you for sparking my imagination Sir .

What a very tragic and horrendously barbaric end to such a great man. Even before he was set alight, he was thinking of the other man, he showed great courage and strength.
I love the way he described how he was taught from an early age archery, and how to use the long bow, if I remember correctly, I read that only the British isles would Place the bowstring on their chest (pulse as they described it) and then put their body into the bow, and other countries would draw the bowstring to them, which meant they got tired quicker. I can see how drawing the bowstring to you after awhile would get to your biceps and fingers, whereas holding the drawstring to your chest and then in effect with an almost straight arm, and stepping into the bow and bowing the bow, it is less effort. Am I understanding that correctly?
I also read that it was compulsory for all young boys from around 9yrs old, maybe younger, to practice archery at least once a week upto adulthood, and it was the clergyman that would see it through after church service, as well as father son training other times.

I really liked the imagery presented in your display! Good context and represented the highlights of this historical character’s story. Well done! You also present the participants of historical events that play a large part of a greater story - a back story in that event with key players that we may not have heard of. I’ve heard of Henry’s divorce but was not aware of the panel that debated and approved it. I was under the impression Henry basically did it on his own. I learned something today and have a deeper understanding of this period in history, as well as the repercussions for those that made that decision - thank you!

Thank you Kevin again for this insight into english history! What it really ment to be burnt by the stake can be watched here on UA-cam in a video from the spanish production "La Peste" (The Plague) with english subtitles, although hardly needed. It takes place in 1597 when the city was struck hard by an outbrake of a plague epidemic. It is very graphic, so MATURE audience only. Look for "Spanish Inquisition Brutal Medieval" - Brutal and heartbreaking!

Hi Kevin! As a bowman for these past 50 years, I have developed a preference for the double recurve bow. I like the speed of them and the fact that you can get more power out of a shorter bow, which is a definite plus when hunting in heavy underbrush. One thing I absolutely detest is the compound bow! It's just wrong!

Thank you Kevin for making Hugh Latimer come alive to me. Weirdly enough, I knew more about Little Bilney than I did about Latimer! Was he any relation to Katherine Parr’s second husband Lord Latimer?
Why was burning at the stake the preferred method for executing “heretics”? Was there something symbolic about fire vs other forms of execution that made it the method of choice for sending the enemies of whichever religion was currently in power permanently out of the realm? Didn’t the powers that were realize that such horrific ends would almost assuredly make the people executed into “martyrs” for the faith? This is the time that Fox’s Book of Martyrs was being written and passed around. You’ve given me much to ponder.

"He was a bowman, a long bowman, just like me". Kevin I have a new house now, and God is blessing me, I am preparing for the weekend. When I fire up the grill on Sunday for my feast, I will say a prayer of thanks to God for the example of the Clergy, such as Hugh Latimer. Despite the politics, the clergy holds to the Bible and willingly take their blows. What a lovely story. Kevin, hope to meet you some day. I am almost ready to retire. Have one daughter still in College, when she is finished, my plan is to no longer toil 40 hours a week for my sustenance, but rather to work 40 hours a week for the Lord Jesus, for no pay (he already gave me eternal life and much more). I have always been inspired by the love and compassion of Jesus. I think Hugh Latimer was too. In closing: Matthew 25:37-40 (King James Version) 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

The History of England is fascinating, especially when well narrated.
I would suggest you to read about Jean Meslier, a French priest who ... did not believe in god. In my first life, I lived not too far away from the village where he was sent to preach. But he didn't do it the expected way. His writings were long kept hidden after his death. Voltaire had a copy. His ideas were later used/misused in a period rich with ideas which lead to the Lumières and the revolution.

Ah, now you come to mention it yes they're just on the horizon. Julie's editing one about how I repair arrows, and we're heading out on Monday to shoot a few. If we can get one edited in time, we'll publish one next Friday (when we leave on our epic roadtrip), the others will then follow through November & on 👍🏻

Yet another excellent video kev!! It must be dreadful to be burnt at the stake. What he said about shooting in a longbow was great! Can't wait for your next video. Take care and best wishes to your good lady.
    Dave.
