Vindicator Beta was sooo clunky -- but since they changed the Alliance swapping mechanic, it has quickly become one of my favorite Elite Specs in EOD. 👏 Great review of the Elite Spec 👏 (I also agree with the Greatsword stuff, it feel more like a "Core" revenant weapon)
I main Rev and one of my main complaints was also the lack of flavor on the skills, utilities included. Most just look very bland and colorless. When you swap into alliance stance, the icon is bright orange and blue, so you'd expect a similar level of flair on the legend and weapon skills.
I agree - the animation for Archemorus summoning in behind you to throw the spear is SUPER COOL and I wish we saw the two heroes ‘mimicking’ your actions on the other skills as well. For a brief moment when you summon him you see a ghost of the spear overlay over your weapon - would’ve been cool to see the spear/urn incorporated into ALL of those utilities!
Nice vid. I started a rev from scratch and when I hit 80, decided on Vindicator as my elite. I run open world so after trying different weapons and legends, I settled on Dwarf and Alliance with weapon choices of Greatsword and Hammer (melee and ranged). I’m currently finishing up Season 4 on Dragonfall and Vindicator is a blast! One suggestion is to eat Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew. You can dodge slam enemies right into the ground! Yes to the Stamina sigil too.” Nourishment (30 m): 100% Chance to Gain Might on Dodge +40% to Endurance Regeneration +10% Experience from Kills
Its been beyond cool diving back into GW2 and finding my way through the new content, having only played vanilla (and LOVED it). Really dig your approach to breaking down the Elite Specs! I'm still getting the Hero Points on my Guardian main, while I get the mounts in PoF, so I can max out Willbender- it looked way too cool. Can't wait to check out your review on that spec next! 🤩
When this spec was introduced I also thought that it sucks they've reused animations. I love what Anet did with many visible animations in this game mounts, skills, etc. So it was a let down that they did not think of making something unique here. I get that it could be hard but still :/
Some thoughts from another heavy Vindicator player: The F2, Energy Meld, feels like it's not something you are supposed to use consistently off cooldown, but more as a supplement to needing to dodge while your block is on cooldown. I find that if I'm working it into my rotation my energy management tanks a bit and I have trouble keeping enough energy in the bar for that godly quickness buff. I noticed you were running Berserker stats, but I posit that the Vin is one of the specs that gets THE most bang out of a Celestial set, even in open world. It gives you great concentration so you can slot into a Quickness provider easily and still allows you solid heal potential if the party needs it. Also the extra healing power gets you SO much use from your Archemorus heal. Totally agree with you on the animations and elite skills, though. I'd love it if they had just a LITTLE bit extra flair for lore reasons, maybe the block greatsword skill glows Viktor blue, and the mist explosions Archemorus Orange. I wish the elites, based as they are on the Bundles from Guild Wars 1, were upkeep skills that powered up based on play. Like the Spear powers up the big attack based on number of kills up to a certain point and while the Urn still stops healing, pulses Aegis to you and allies and powers up to a certain point based on number of attacks blocked.
I've been running a healing Vindicator with much enjoyment! 100% the most fun I've had on a class. Resilient Spirit helps mitigate Urn of Viktor damage (provides shield based on # of boons every 3 seconds) and Unyielding Devotion provides perma damage reduction as long as Urn is active.
This is the spec I've ran since I put down Virtuoso through the story. It's probably the most fun I've had playing the game. Lots of fun shenanigans have been had. My favourite so far is dodge jumping off the platform in strike 3. Can't dodge roll off of it, but apparently vind can hop over the fence. I laughed my ass off.
i play celestial vindicator and i love it. i take the dodge roll trait that extends boon uptimes, and along with the concentration given to celestial gear, makes your boons last forever lol. and also you get a ton of value out of the red alliance skill that burns and gives you quickness and fury, especially when you extend that quickness you can easily achieve permanent quickness and fury. and when times get tough, you can switch to healing mode and give out decent heals and condi cleanse.
I didn't think the buttons were an issue, I got used to them after some time playing alacren. Have you checked the UI size options in the options screen and the scaling checkbox? It might help a bit. I've always spent enough energy to swap into Shiro and two swords, but I'm a spammer (again, muscle memory from alacren, as it taught me to watch for either 20% or 10% energy).
I play Vindi as my main and I love it, though healing when you are damage specced is a chore. The StV without bottom tree dodge feels like it barely treads water.
I frankly dislile both vindicator and gunblade. They are way too obviously "inspired" in FF XIV, and GW2 has awesome class design, they don't need this copy pasta thing.
Liked a lot the review, since allow me to see an external and well reasoned opinion of the spec. As a Rev main which mostly plays open world and PvP/WvW I didn't the spec at all: took me ~7 weeks to entirely ditch the Vindicator, despite already having 3 Revenants. I found that the damage wasn't as good as just running a condi Renegade or condi Herald, which have way more sustain. My Vindicator died a unnaceptable amount of times trying to solo some of the HoT hero points which usually are very doable aside 2-3 exceptions. With the Vindicator I found myself struggling to even beat a veteran bristleback or a copule of smokescales before they kicked my ass, whereas my condi Herald, condi Renegade or condi Willbender just melt the content in seconds. The things were even worse at PvP, at which ANet already nerfed the game and slashed the heal and barrier from the Saint of zu Heltzer jump. In my opinion GW2 combat is designed around having two dodges which cost 50 endurance each, and once you change that problems emerge (see Daredevil or Mirage), and with a 100 endurance cost x evade and having to devote traits, trait lines (Retribution) and even sigils to compensate the artificially introdeced handicap the spec justh doesn't wort it. That is even worse at PvP and roaming, where the enemies can just wait to cc you after your single evade (because it doesn't provide i-frames for the total lenght of the animation) and even if you get stability before the dodge is bugged and things as Line of Warding or Ring of Warding can instantly interrupt you. Not to mention that weakness and chill entirely shuts down a Vindicator. A shame, due I had Eternity, which now has no use in this class...
Nice review. You might want to consider using an application or script to set up custom character keybinds. Basically, you might want the dodge roll key to be mapped to a different key like 4 when you're using vindicator.
plz for the love of god no upkeep skill on the new leggy, ure already forced to play the same traitlines with nearly every rev build, I enjoy to take something else for once. great vid tough
Yeah I’m not a fan of vindicator I find I need to take a bunch of healing talents to survive because the number six heals r weak without specing into it.
Some of the things that I think NEED to be changed about Vindicator that needs to be fixed, is the leap dodge, since you can get easily knocked out of it and it doesn't protect you from aoe damage either, and you don't have frame immunity just before or just after you land which allows you to cancel your dodge's attack if you use another skill fast enough or other people can cancel it by ccing you, which is really a big problem for some fights or especially in PvP/WvW since you can get easily abused for using it as opposed to just roll dodging which doesn't really have the same problems.
I'm still bitter about them" fixing the bug" for legend swap triggering weapon swap effects. I had a sigil of cleansing on my shortbow which has definitely affected the flow of my gameplay. I actually only play my revenant now when somebody needs an Alacren. Otherwise he is parked at a chest.
I agree I play mostly pve and even with vitality and toughness vindi still goes down fast and the heals don’t heal that much. I feel like I’m playing a glass cannon.
Loved the video. :) On some classes the animation reuse does not feel ideal but I must say the animations they reused on vindicator are all animations that feel really good on there base classes and for that reason I do not mind it on vindicator. Vindi greatsword took some of the best animations on other gs classes and mushed them together.
They could have visually focused on using the mighty artifacts both heroes created. For Archemorus, they could have made the spear be used in most skills, but by your hand, keeping the same functionality. The same for St Viktor's urn.
i dont think this guy knows what skill is what animation is lmfao, gs 2 is unique gs4 isnt auto attack its ranger gs block, gs5 isnt gs5 on reaper its gs4. edit gs3 isnt a autoattack either lmfao
GS 2 uses one of the animations from the auto chain, as does the follow-up strike in GS 4 *after* the block. GS 5 is Reaper's GS 2 animation. GS 3 is the only one that has a unique animation, that I could see.
Vindicator Beta was sooo clunky -- but since they changed the Alliance swapping mechanic, it has quickly become one of my favorite Elite Specs in EOD.

Rev is such a mess since the start it really ticks me off how they handled rev from the start. They really need a rework of the class.

Rev has always been left behind for some reason.

I totally agree, the greatsword could use some new anims and all... But other than that, i love the profession. I've been playing it mostly in pvp.
I play Vindi as my main and I love it, though healing when you are damage specced is a chore. The StV without bottom tree dodge feels like it barely treads water.
I always spec into the heal drop on vindi tree I feel like it’s one of the only things keeping me alive.
I frankly dislile both vindicator and gunblade. They are way too obviously "inspired" in FF XIV, and GW2 has awesome class design, they don't need this copy pasta thing.
Dragoon with a Sword thats also a Dark Knight

Holy hell...I am for sure watching those podcast. Should be great to listen to.

what are your camera settings?
dragoon is so bad ass in FXIV, this is the perfect class for me!
What’s the helm that you have on bloom?
It's from the Primeval Heavy Armor set in the Gem Store
Had the same experience with vindicator hated at the start loved it after a while haha
where is the actual build?
1. give me cookie.
Sigh, ever since the absolute massacre of battle scars Revenant has zero sustain in pve so it is just not a fun class anymore....

I really wanna know what is that helm, every time is see your vids , looks awesome
Primeval
Thank you
Which runes and sigils to use?
Superior Rune of the Eagle + Sigil of Stamina & Sigil of Force :)
Loved the video. :)

You spammed that dodge way too much.
About around 3:50
Well the Legendary Alliance just consists of _2 heros_ so not having anything fancy sounds fair to me.
They could have visually focused on using the mighty artifacts both heroes created. For Archemorus, they could have made the spear be used in most skills, but by your hand, keeping the same functionality. The same for St Viktor's urn.
thoughts: bad spec
builds: there are no viable builds, they all suck
tipps: play something else
i dont think this guy knows what skill is what animation is lmfao, gs 2 is unique gs4 isnt auto attack its ranger gs block, gs5 isnt gs5 on reaper its gs4. edit gs3 isnt a autoattack either lmfao
