When I was young I found a cookbook full of recipes. I knew this cookbook will turn me into the greatest chef ever. In order to fully focus on my culinary skills I had to leave my family behind. 10 years of honing my skills at the top of a sacred mountain I finally descended the mountain to become a burrito assembler at Chipotle.
I really like the character of Paul . When he cried , I got emotional . He lost his sense of taste so he was ineligible to cook . It reminded me when I started to have breathing problems & couldn't continue dancing because it required stamina . I was glad that Paul & Sky worked together at the end .
He’s based on Grant Achatz who is one of the top modern chefs in the world. At one point in his life he was diagnosed with tongue cancer and had a part of his tongue removed loosing his ability to taste. Since then his cooking has only improved as he incorporates other senses and ways in his dishes.
Abandoning your child because he can't cook ramen is so bad that it is actually hillarious sky's father was something else and NOT in the good way. sky getting his acknowledgement was something really important for him and I'm happy about it..he may not be in the greatest of terms with mountain but at least he showed him that he is worthy and not a talentless loser that his father thought he was

I really enjoyed the movie throughout every single scene. I am a foodie and the most delicious food in the world is one which can be felt by heart not just tastes & looks good. I really appreciate the efforts of every single man-woman worked on this film.
Its also good to point out the last scene as he passes to his father the bowl of noodle, it is a show of respect in chinese familial culture to hand and receive items from and to your elderly with both hands as a sign of respect. It is a heartfelt and wholesome moment Sky has accepted his father as the man he is; a culinary god who couldn't give 2 damns about his own flesh and blood. Him finally showing the man he despises and ran away from his whole life, he finally stops talking back and show to his father with no words. This is the bowl of noodle you left me for, I have reach this far to challenge you again. Please. Taste it. In the end he didn't even need his father to hug or say he is proud of his son but just knowing he took the high road of letting go. And improved on the last thing he lacked as a cook, progressiveness. He knew his father will be proud of him. Because that noodle is the love language some chinese family share. In food. We rarely say I love you to each other but just cooking for someone with your heart and soul means everything. By comparison to Mountain's cold dish, Sky cooked the first warm meal for his father. I fckin cried watching that scene. And just wanna share this traditional conservative mindset chinese family tends to have.

One thing I find really unrealistic is in those kinds of competition they aren't gonna get the freedom to cook anything they want Rather a certain kind of dish with more than 2-3 techniques should be followed by both the competitors
If it was really realistic, everything would be staged. The competition runners would make sure to monetize Sky and Mountain's relationship. They'd also ensure that Sky would win so that the audience can get a satisfying conclusion.
People are claiming how this movie is unrealistic according to actual food shows and laws, but this wouldn't be half as good if it was written realistically.
Nevermind cooking techniques, it stopped being realistic the moment they introduced the king and queen of France. Went from drama to alternate history in a split second.
