The solo on the Dan record is one of the greatest ever recorded.

I go back and forth between it and Wind Cries Mary by Hendrix, also one take improvised. Can two things both be the greatest ever?

Sudio musicianship is so deep within his bloodstream that his live playing sounds like the final cut from a recording session. That was absolutely perfect.

Funny how I was a big Beatles fan in my teens, then Led Zeppelin in my 20's, then Prog rock, Yes, Genesis, ELP, now I'm in my 60's and Steely Dan is my go to listen.

I wish I could remember the interview, I think it was Alice Cooper of all people, and he was asked what music did he himself prefer to listen to . And he thought for a minute and said, "When I want to hear something excellent I listen to Steely Dan".

A great guitarist and clearly a wonderful guy. I first discovered Larry Carlton in the mid seventies when I purchased the Crusaders incredible album Those Southern Nights. The first song on the LP, Spiral, is my favorite (by far) and features fantastic Larry Carlton playing. I was also a Steely Dan devotee at the time and also loved The Royal Scam and Kid Charlemagne, but did not know Larry played on that record. I learned later on. Yes, his lead on Kid Charlemagne ranks up there with the greatest of all time. I listen to it frequently, and still have my original record! I think I also have the 8-track of it!! Larry is a master guitar player!!

Pretty incredible to hear that from 4 years ago. As he said: 40 + years later. He makes it look easy & natural, but imagine how hard that must have been when they invited him back after 35 years or so to play it live with them? I've sort of heard it on some YT homemade videos from The Beacon, but isn't there a nice recording somewhere? That's a very special moment in time! Thanks for another great upload. ♥
