I got a pomeranian last month, he's still a baby(4 months old). He's my very first dog, I hope I can take good enough care of him and that he'll grow healthy and cute.
If you want a dog to stop barking this is what you do: When your dog starts barking let it bark for as long is it takes, don't give any attention, don't say anything, no eye contact, just leave it alone. Yes, it's hard because a dog can even bark for hours, but NO ATTENTION. After your dog stops barking, go and give a belly rub and give some treats if the dog starts barking again leave it alone immediately. If you do follow the steps properly and then you get annoyed and start to yell at the dog or something to try and stop the dog, it'll only think your joining in on the fun. And it'll think that if I bark then eventually you'll pay attention to me. This process can take weeks or months, but it works. Patience is the key to a well behaved dog. Edit: I've seen the comment section and a lot of people seem confused or don't agree with this method. You do what you think is best, but there is something I need to clarify, this process is for *CRATE TRAINING.* I know I should've specified that, and I don't know why I didn't, I must've forgotten, I'm so sorry about that. Also, a quick note: when you're doing this method (for crate training) you have to be in the same room as the crate and the puppy inside (common sense), anyway you gotta sit right beside the crate but sideways, so your body is not facing the crate with the pup. If you're puppy is barking (or whining/squealing cuz it depends on how old you're pup is), don't pay any attention to it, absolutely none, do nothing. Now, when your pup stops making noises, give it a treat through the crate (also, while you're doing that, say something like "good girl" or "good boy" "yes") DO NOT OPEN THE CRATE, why, because the puppy will then get really excited and start jumping and barking/squealing. So, just take baby steps. Now, after several times of doing this, move 1 foot away from the crate, now when you started this process you should've been sitting 1 foot away from the crate, so now you're supposed to be 2 feet from the crate, and repeat the process. When your pup settles down/is quiet, give it a treat, do this a few times, then move another foot away from the crate. You should work your way to the door, then out the door, (also, you should be sitting on the ground). When you have reached out the door and done the process a few times, that's enough for now then. Because training sessions should be around 15 minutes. Now, wait until the pup is quiet and go and give it more than one treat like 3-5, now this part can be tricky, especially if your pup doesn't know how to sit and stay, now, if your pup knows how to sit and stay, then ask it to sit and stay and then you open the crate, if you're pup breaks the stay, close the crate back up and try again, only let the pup come out when you have opened the door wide open and you call the pup (like "come on out"). Now, if your pup doesn't know sit and stay then while you're opening the door, stick you're fingers (like 2 or 3 fingers) through the holes in the crate, with a treat in your hand, but don't give it to the pup, let the pup lick it and bite it, but don't let em have it. Now while you're pup is distracted by the treat in you're hands/fingers, (which should be away from the door), use this time to open the door, now your pup might lose interest in the treat and try going out the door, don't let em, close the door and try again. You should be able to have the door wide open, then you can give the pup the treat and call it to come out (like "come on out" you can even use the pups name when calling it out, example: "Max, come on out"). Now, you have to practice this method of crate training a few times a day, like once every hour. So when it's time to go to sleep, the crate needs to be right beside your bed. Now, if you have a young puppy who can't control their bladder or isn't potty trained then you're going to have to wake up in the middle of the night and take it to go potty. Then, after the potty is done, it can take some time for the pup to potty though, so wait patiently. Also, when you're going to let your pup go outside to potty say "go potty". Now, after the potty is done, go back inside and put the pup back in the crate and go to sleep, don't fuss the pup, don't do anything exciting, just be boring. Now, that method was for crate training, now if you want to have a dog stop barking, then you're going to have to teach it to "bark" or "speak" which ever command you like (I prefer "speak" it sounds better than "bark") and then to be quiet like "quiet". So when your pup is barking give it treats, just keep the treats coming. Now, after you do this for some time, introduce the word "speak/bark" so say "speak/bark" then while you're giving the treat say "yes" or "yes, good job". Do this a few times (until the pup gets the hang of it), now it's time to teach the pup to be quiet. So when your pup is barking, put out your hand like this ✋🏻put your hand out and wait for the pup to be quiet, you gotta be fast, cuz your pup might stop barking but then start barking again. So when you have that window of opportunity (the pup ain't barking) give em a treat. Do this a few times, now you can introduce the command "quiet". So when your pup is quiet say "quiet" then say "yes" and give it a treat at the same time. Do this a few times, until the pup gets the hang of it. Now practice with both the commands. There, I hope that was better, I'm sorry for the long post. Ignore the original post and look at the edit part. The original part doesn't have much info and has a lot of important information missing. So just ignore it and look at the edit part.
We have had 5 poms over 50 years of marriage. You have hit every item right on the nose. If you take care and follow this information you should get 15 to 17 years of love.
Omg my mom just told me today that I'm getting a pom this weekend I'm watching all the tips I need so tysm! Edit: omg i totally forgot about this comment im so sorry to those who were curious, we got a mix breed (pom × poodle), he's the fluffiest thing we ever owned. 😍💕 he learns tricks quite easily, takes 1 hour - 1 day to perfect a trick for him, the earlier the better! His potty training took 4 months for him to adjust :')
Sam Hunter ah I’m so pleased you found it helpful! I’ll have a video live soon about what you really need when you get a puppy, so hopefully that will be useful too! 💗
Owning a pom is indeed hard work. I own a 14 month old. The amount of love we get in return is worth how busy my pom keeps us. They are worth all the work.
My Pomeranian Logan is also my medical alert service dog. I have a collapsible bowl in my purse, kibble, paw wax, and a cooing vest for him at all times. He can overheat very easily, so a cooling vest is a use for him. His coloration is Beaver Sable, so his coat colors are still changing ever now at two years old. Brushing teeth is really important for toy breeds as well as combing out their coats. Logan is a brilliant little puff ball and is so different I work mode, once he sees his red vest his attached to my side holding a leash free heel. I always call my boy a “delicate little flower” when family wants to play with him. As happy and feisty as he is, he isn’t invincible.
PomPomLogan they really are incredible dogs! I’ve heard of so many poms used as service dogs because they’re so in tune with their owners, are so intelligent and react so quickly! Logan sounds amazing 😘💗
I watched your video before I got my little guy, and fast forward to now, almost a year later, everything you said about poms is spot on! They LOVE to have your attention. My Pom whines or barks at me if I don’t give him attention, all he wants is to be pet and get a nice belly rub, and play fetch with his favorite plush cow toy lol. Also it’s true their belly’s are extremely sensitive, if your getting a puppy keep a very close eye while walking them. I’ve had two incidents where he ate something off the ground and I had to end up taking him to the vet (Pet insurance is a must have). But if your thinking about getting a Pomeranian DO IT they’re so worth it. The joy they bring into your life is amazing and the love they have for you is the best feeling ever. You’ll love ur Pom they’re so sweet and adorable. I’m a first time dog owner, so I was really nervous to get one, but with a lot of research and consistent training getting him was seriously the best decision I’ve ever made ❤️
I love 💕 your videos and I watch them even though I have a cocker spaniel!! These facts can also apply to other dog breeds as well for anyone who wanted to know.
The Turner Twins thank you so much for watching! I’m glad you found them useful! 100% a lot of them apply to all dog breeds. I actually grew up with springer spaniels that are gun dog trained, so have used these principals for Pepi! I have a few ideas for videos that apply more to all dog breeds, so hopefully they will be useful too! 💗
*I have grown to love you & Pepé so much!* I've been following you (family+dogs) for years now! After all this time I still consider you & channel long distance friends... through a screen... that I wish were in "real life". ☺🌄🌸🌱
We have schnauzers, who are also alarm dogs, my mom lets them bark once or twice, then thanks them for letting her know they saw something, gives them a pet, and moves on. Works like 80 percent of the time.
This video was perfect! I’m watching it in 2024 and it makes me feel so much more confident in getting my pom puppy in a few weeks 🥹💛 I’ve only ever had larger dogs or chihuahuas so I’ve been stressing for a bit, but after watching this video it makes me feel so much better 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm bringing home Loki my black pomeranian in December. This video was very helpful. He is the runt and relaxed and I'm hoping that he will get along with my 8 year old Yorkie. Can't wait!
I chose the runt too. mine was a lot smaller than her siblings at 2 months, and at 5 months old, she has out grown 3 of her siblings already. She's very smart and more dominant than most her siblings.
i agree with everything!! especially the sensitive stomachs point! I have had a few Pomeranian and they become over weight VERY easily. and cant eat any variety of food. they’ll gain too much weight and will feel sick. Also, the barking is CRAZY. its another level of barking. you don’t even understand until you meet one haha
Hello Katie! I wanted to give you some feedback on your very nice videos! I think you organize your thoughts very well and are very pleasant to listen to. You are a great communicator! And Pepi is a DOLL! I came to your videos because about 2 months ago I’ve adopted a Pomeranian (one of my guinny pigs died and only one was left, so we went to the shelter for another “old lady” guinny pig, and came back with the piggie herself, a Pomeranian and 2 special care cats). Fiorella, the Pom, is a total darling. It seems she was abused by her previous family and still needs 2 further surgeries to fix her leg. She is now 9 months old. Arrived with 1.7 kg and is now already at 2.1 kg. She’s a very affectionate and happy pup, doing amazingly well with the (6!) cats and the 2 guinny pigs. The cats are totally fascinated by her, and already including her in their chase games. Anyways, wanted to share with you a little of Fiorella’s happy story, and perhaps one day she can meet Pepi and play in the park. Greetings from Germany!
alexsandra zanetti hi my love, thank you so much for sharing your lovely story with us! Sorry to hear about your guinea pig 😔 Fiorella sounds like a darling! We really want to get a rescue for our next pup but need to make sure they’re a good size for pepi and won’t upset her! So pleased you’re enjoying the videos, if you have any requests for Pom videos, please do let me know! 💗
i’ve seen a lot of comments of people saying they want a pom & after watching this, they don’t. I just got a pom and he is the best dog, he already sits and shakes, he loves fetching, and is such a cuddle bug! 🖤 i would recommend a pomeranian to anyone who has time for a puppy. i’ve also started a new channel with him if anyone wants to watch our journey ✨🖤
Hi Katie, I worked with my Pomeranian when I first got her and would just say quiet and put my finger on my lip. She went to beginner training and they did the same thing and also said to give her a treat and say good quiet to reinforce when she is being quiet on her own accord 😊
I have a Pom almost 3 years old now . Got her from the breeder in la at 8 weeks old. I have noticed the eye sight and night vision problem. she seems to be higher alert (barking) when it’s night , the shadows or anything unusual out of place (inanimate objects) . To keep her joints safe I’ve gotten child steps (reinforced with grippy carpet - stick on tile) for the sofa and a Japanese tatami so she can safely hop on and off. Before she’d be shaking whenever she’d make the leap either on or off. Good video content!
lacette1 that’s so interesting! Do you know, it’s so funny, Pepi completely changes from night to night, sometimes she’s super calm and other times she’s just on high alert, no matter whether I’m calm or not! That’s such a good idea to get steps! Pep is pretty good and never jumps off/on the bed and our sofa isn’t too high which really helps! 💗
NB Washlee yes!! She’s two years old now, but was fully house trained by the age of 6 months (I think Pom’s take longer to house train than bigger dogs!) I think key is to discipline if they pee where you don’t want them to and praise when they go where they’re supposed to! A lot of people are scared of discipline, but if you keep emotions out of it (eg, don’t get angry) then you’re good! 💗
My husband & I are getting a pomeranian puppy in a couple of days and this video and other videos are very good learning tools & helpful for us to know what to do & how to take care of our future pom. Thanks a lot for the information Katie.
My poms eyesight is fine. I never heard of that with poms. U are right their stomachs are so sensitive. We give him Pedialyte if he gets diahria. But we had to bring him to the vet twice in nine years. We never let him go up stairs or jump on bed to save his knee. He doesn't like to be left alone so we bring him if we can. He is like a person. He is one of the family
Poor Pepi! (The steak-eating part). So happy she is well again. Thanks, we are going on a road trip soon, so we will come prepared 😊 I can also connect with everything you said (I have one-wags her butt off when she sees new people)
Thanks so much! I love all dogs but specifically have been thinking about getting a Pom. I really appreciate the specific details you related in this video!
My Pom alert barks if someone comes to the door, and sometimes when she’s bored. Otherwise she’s basically silent. I work at a vet and she sits at the front desk with me and rarely barks. Everyone always comments on how quiet and well behaved she is for a Pom. I think two things helped that. I socialized the heck out of her when I first got her. She went everywhere, everyone held her, etc. also I used a training technique when she would bark at home where you let her alert, you tell her thank you, and if she keeps going she gets a 5-10 second timeout in the bathroom. I also just might be lucky cause she’s pretty perfect 😍
So I actually learned this a little bit ago. Dog's colorblindness makes them see green tones as yellow. So if you are throwing a green ball into the grass, any dog will most likely not be able to see it very well. It may also be because she is short (like you mentioned) but colorblindness is a very common behavior seen after owning a dog for a while!
Thank you. Very helpful. A tin with a few coins in, is a great help to stop unnecessary barking. After giving Quiet command, you throw the tin, wrapped in a bag in doggie’s direction, to get their attention and instantly stops barking. Definitely not very close to dog. After doing this twice, you normally only need to then shake the tin, if they do not obey our QUIET command. This has been a breakthrough for us. Hope it helps. 🌹🌹🌹
My pom is a year & a half old and I've noticed that her eyesight is actually very good. She has eagle eyes! When I drop anything, even if it's a bead, she'll show me where it is immediately. She'll also see a bird or a squirrel outside from far away. I'll have no idea why she's barking & it takes me a while to realize what she's barking at. I appreciate all of these tips & I loved all of these!!!!
Kristi Watterson that’s amazing! I think maybe it’s totally dependent on the dog then?! Pepi also sees squirrels from miles away 😂 her favourite animal, she’s fascinated by them! So glad you liked the video 💗
Thank you for this video! I love Pomeranians and I hope to get one some day when I can afford it but I want to do as much research as I can before I do so I can be a good owner/mum 💜
hey for an affordable pom just google affordable poms and sometimes they are cheaper by a lot so it also has free shipping so its really affordable and helpful :)
finally someone mentions hat you shouldn't cut their fur! I have a german Mittelspitz (looks 100% like a pom but is bigger) and it makes me soo sad to see how many pom/spitz owners don't know that you shouldn't cut their fur
@@MrsKatieHeath that's true. The pom is actually the smallest size of the german spitz.. there are like 4 other types of the german spitz (the main difference is actually just the size)
I have a 9 year old purebred Pom named Fletch and he’s great, for anyone wanting to know what it’s like long run, adding on to what she said, feed it well, I’ve never had an issue shaving him (only in the summer), and their eyesight does differ when aging, if you do feed them with a good diet and have good exercise, medical issues won’t be bad. I am a veterinary technician student so take this for what it’s worth but I hope this helps and adds a little more!
My Pom is almost six. He started hyperventilating and finally had his larynx x-rated n he does have a PROLAPSED TRACHEA. HE HAS always been chubby despite exercise n also found out hie has hypothyroidism causing weight. Both are treatable. Losing 3 lbs will now help the breathing. Its the breed. I love my Pom so much. Helped me through thick n thin.
Getting my own Pomeranian Baby soon so trying to get notes. My mom has an 2 month year old Pomeranian boy but we are still learning how on to take care of them. And want to make sure we are doing it right. So this video was very helpful ❤
I have had 5 and none have had any patella problems. They all bark! I do not find them to be limited in any way as to durability. My second male that died in 2015 was 16 years old and he went on long hiking excursions with me right up to his last year. He was tough as nails. BeBe the Adventure Dog! Son, Tommy, is just like him. They can get wet and cold and whatever, no complaints ever, always game and happy. They get hot easily. Yes, don't cut their fur, just comb out the under coat in the hot months. They love to eat!!! Fortunately, they are "pocket dogs" and you can carry them through thickets and the worst of the mud. They don't really get muddy and are "self cleaning" like a cat. They are the perfect outdoor adventure companion. Don't let anyone sell them short on their durability. They are miniaturized sled dogs; and that's a fact. They have "Napoleon Complex" and they think that are the biggest dog on the block. Be careful not to allow them to aggravate larger dogs. I lost my first male, Albie, to a Pit Bull from that. I now have his name sake, Albie II. Keep them on a 16' leash around larger dogs.
I never have seen them to be finicky eaters. BeBe ate a whole croaker (small fish) head first, like a praying mantis, in my boat on a 100 degree day and didn't throw up. I only threw away the tail. He hated fish. I saw him leap into the lake in 30 degree weather to attach a catfish on the hook. He'd have eaten him too if I'd let him. I had to dry him and put him under my coat that day, but he'd have gone right on being the Adventure Dog till he froze solid.
Ah you write so beautifully! I can really see everything you’re describing! Everything you’ve said is so so true! They really are the best little adventurers! You’re so right about them aggravating bigger dogs too. Pepi teases dogs that are on the lead and runs rings around them. She’s a little terror! We’re careful to pick her up if we see a dog we think may be irritated though! Thank you for sharing 💗
@@MrsKatieHeath Thanks Katie; and for your videos! Its good that you are providing information and video evidence of just how fabulous these little dogs are. I'd like to see more and more Pomeranians! Its like they all belong to everyone. BTW, my pic is of Tommy (BeBe's son) on Sardis (Mississippi) Lake, in search of catfish.
I recommend watching Victoria still well because she is a dog trainer and one of episodes is about a dog or two that bark and bark she teaches them to be quiet.
i have a pom who is five years old now this is my second one she is the love of my life and i watch her like a mother hen she is not a big fan of dogs but loves people
Agree with all you've said. Its funny re eyesight.. my pom will see a fly on the wall and go nuts barking, but will walk right by the ball he's looking for! So it's not that he cant see tiny things from a distance, but he doesnt have the same ability to distinguish some things outside.. or isnt as interested in them in a stimulating environment. But I've seen the same thing where he'll walk right by the toy he's looking for!
Yes!! Exactly this! Pepi will see the smallest ant crawling across the floor and be mesmerised but doesn’t see the ball or can’t see her toy over the grass etc! Thank you for watching 🥰
I have a Pomeranian age two her name is Rosie does like the vet but loves walking playing with her ball just loves life she is so cute everyone ones loves her 😍✨✨
This is an amazing refresher as I’m getting another Pomeranian. My first one he’s two years old and I think it’s time for him to get a sister 🥰 any tips on how to go about introducing them?
Ah that’s so exciting! We really want to get a second dog soon too. Maybe try this video - ua-cam.com/video/SdtzYI29eiA/v-deo.html first, but I really think it totally depends on how your current Pom reacts to other dogs in the home! Potentially introducing them on neutral ground first, then bringing them into the home together could work. Always making sure your first Pom gets a tonne of attention so he doesn’t feel as though he’s been replaced too! 💗
How did it go introducing them? Any issues? I want to get a Pom and then a second when the first one is 2. That is the recommended age to get another dog.
Pomeranian dogs gets tons of attention, Austin is friendly & lets ppl pet him. Our Pom doesn’t have a sensitive stomach or bark a lot. He doesn’t need to be very active (lol), Austin is ok with relaxing & being bored, ha ha! Yes, keep a bottle when taking a walk! Please be aware of big dogs!!! Poms are tiny, it can get scary!!! Her video gives a lot of good information 👍🏼
Hello from NYC! And I just became an instant subscriber after watching this video on my TV! So I jumped on my phone to “Like & Subscribe”! Thanks for all the info, and I really loved this video and can’t wait to binge watch all the others! 💖🙏🏼
Poms do like to bark, it's one of their favorite things to do. I don't know a way to get them to stop. If you have more than one dog, the Pomeranian likes to be Boss Dog. They want to control who gets the attention, and everything else dog related.
Yes, there are ways to get them to stop, like positive reinforcement of offering them a treat when they stop barking. Just because it’s a Pom doesn’t mean it should be allowed by the owner to bark excessively. My Pom barks a few times when the doorbell rings and he barks if he gets startled, but we don’t allow him to bark “just because he’s a yappy breed of dog”. If you wouldn’t allow another breed to bark after it gets annoying to you, you shouldn’t let a Pom bark either.
Yes, the first one is so true I've tried walking my pomeranian around the neighborhood and I met quite a lot of friends because of my pom and it gave me some confident and my social anxiety is kicking in but it gave me more confident And number 9 yes, they are not scared of dogs which are 10 times bigger their size.
haha, my parents said that too! But don’t worry, my sister had to wait YEARS for a puppy, but wer’re getting one soon since she has her own money now, and she also did ALOT convincing.
Hi. I had two poms. Pompie lived over 20 years. Daisy lived almost 17 years. Their eyesight was great and never a problem!! No health issues!! Our Pomeranians were very healthy and lived long wonderful lives. Our Pomeranians were throwback or called standard size aka the larger size. They both weighed 14 pounds and were slender. We are looking for new Pomeranian puppies but can't find the larger size. The breeders are breeding the smaller size which can inherit a lot of health problems. The larger size is usually much healthier. The breeders know the throwback Pomeranians are much healthier, but they get more money for the smaller ones. As you know it has been a while since we purchased new puppies. I paid $1,500 for Daisy. Now Pomeranian puppies are thousands of dollars and we have not been able so far to find a breeder that breeds the larger size Pomeranians. I'm so sorry to hear your puppy has issues with her eyesight. Pepi is in my prayers that the Lord will heal her eyes and any other health issues. God bless.
Thank you for your comment 😘 Wow, what incredible ages!! I completely agree. All dog breeds are sadly bred smaller and cuter without much thought for what health concerns it might bring forward in the animal. I really hope you manage to find the right fur-baby 💗💗💗
If my Pom is hardcore barking, I know I’m not winning that battle 😂 But usually I pet her and love on her and tell her “that’s enough” and “no more” and her attention shifts to me and she stops. I’ve always talked to her like a person she’s so smart haha.
Katie KALANCHOE It is! I got to the point where I could anticipate if something would set her off so I’d start before she could haha. She LOVES being pet so I think she decides it’s better to be loved on than bark lol
My Pomeranian has luxating patella. It is difficult to deal with but I wouldn’t trade my Pomeranian for the world. He is the most lovable dog I’ve ever owned. They are truly the best breed.
2:23 Katie I couldn't agree more on this. Hope you don't come late everywhere like me. My Pomeranian wants to walk and play with everyone that passes,I believe he is used to the attention outside..😂
This was extremely helpful. I have a puppy with 8 weeks old and although I have a lot of experience with very tiny breeds, I never had a Pomeranian before so I wasn't aware of most of the things you mentioned. I'd like to ask one thing tho. My pom puppy hates being held, she's been with me for a week now and so far I've had some trouble trying to convince her to spend some time on my lap. She follows me everywhere on the house, I can tell for sure she likes me, she hates being alone too. But when I hold her, she does absolutely everything to get on the ground again. It doesn't matter if I'm sitting or standing, she absolutely hates it. I thought maybe this happens because she's too young and wants to explore things? But my other dog didn't do that when she was her age... Also it crossed my mind that maybe she feels too hot because of all of her fur? But also, at the same time, it's 14 C degrees at my city, so I find it hard to be just because she's feeling hot. Is this normal? Will it change later?
Ana Carolina ZK hey! I’m so glad you found it useful. Ok, we had the same problem with Pepi when she was little. Do you know how to hold your Pom so that it’s most comfortable for you/your pup? Sorry if I’m repeating what you already know but, if you put your hand under your Pom’s chest with its legs either side of your arm and its belly running down your arm so it’s bottom is sitting almost on the inside of your elbow, this is the most secure/comfortable way to hold your Pom. This position is also very difficult for your Pom to squirm out of! Pepi doesn’t LOVE to be carried and likes to walk a lot but in busy streets/certain situations it is safer to hold her. Keep persisting with your Pom and eventually they will get used to being held. Also don’t put it down as soon as it makes signs that it wants to because then it knows it controls you rather than the other way around! I will do an updated video on this at some point! 💗
@@MrsKatieHeath Thank you so much for answering! For sure I'll follow these instructions, I was really concerned. You have no idea how much better I feel now. Thank you!! A big hug from Brazil
I have one that is a service dog that will bark 15 minutes before I'm about to have a seizure. I take him everywhere with me. He has a vest and a leash. You are right everywhere I go people always want to touch him and say how cute he is. Unfortunately since he is a service dog I can't let them touch him.
I have a Pom, but she is a giant girl (not overweight, just big!) but she is 100% Pomeranian. She has the stomach issues, I feed her three small meals a day to fend that off. On the eyesight, her ears and eyes are super sharp! She can spot a lizard at 100 yards and possums across the yard in the dark. I will also suggest that anyone considering getting a Pom that they start brushing and grooming their Pom on a regular (weekly if not more) basis. We have made a game of it by doing tricks for treats after our brushing sessions at bedtime. Barking - neurotic - especially during thunderstorms or fireworks. I have gotten a "lick-y mat" a silicone mat with groves that I can smear peanut butter or something on for her to lick (licking calms dogs).
Enjoyed watching your video. The next dog I get is definitely going to be a Pomeranium. They are so adorable. Just have to talk my husband into it. We recently got a Cavalier King Charles who just turned one. But I always wanted a Pom too,. Hopefully I will get one in the next year or so. Sure hope they will get along okay. I also have a Cocker Spaniel who is really laid back. The King Charles is the Alpha. Will be watching your videos.
King Charles are glorious! Did you know a law was passed for the breed years ago that meant it’s illegal to refuse them entry into any premises in the UK?! Not sure if that law still stands but such a cool part of history! I’m sure they will love each other. Pepi learnt from my family spring spaniels and adores them/they adored her! 💗
I have a pomerian. She is 8 months now. We recently moved from a house to an apartment. She started barking with every noise. Every time she started, I took her and put her for a time out in the bathroom. Just 2 minutes. And I only got her when she didn't bark anymore. She hardly bark anymore. At top twice a day. Good luck!
I don't even own a pomeranian but I want one so much so I'm educating myself for when I get one lol
Pamela Castaneda same 😂
Omg same
Me too , they're so cute 😆
same i’m finding one and found one named pickles
I have one
I got a pomeranian last month, he's still a baby(4 months old). He's my very first dog, I hope I can take good enough care of him and that he'll grow healthy and cute.
LadyEtihw aww I’m sure you will! 💗
Are you getting his balls chopped off
V __ you went straight in there
@@Faith-zv9xr 😂😂😂😂 I mean There was no other way to say it
@Xion Dion Okay and? I said what I said. The hell I look like its that simple
If you want a dog to stop barking this is what you do:
When your dog starts barking let it bark for as long is it takes, don't give any attention, don't say anything, no eye contact, just leave it alone.
Thank you going try this
Adam Murnin thank you!!!
I’ll try it I have a Pomeranian and husky mix (pomski) so she has the loudest bark
This is great advice for people who don’t have neighbors.
Katrina Wong it can happen like a yorhuahua. (Chihuahua and a Yorkie
I have a pom pom and she is constantly seeking for my attention. She gets hyper quite often as well. I love her!
THE BEST!
Infernal fidget spinner I have a question they love attention what if you go to school
Natalie Sanchez yeah I wonder too
Take the pomeranian out on longer walks
I want one
Good luck 🍀
We have had 5 poms over 50 years of marriage. You have hit every item right on the nose. If you take care and follow this information you should get 15 to 17 years of love.
Thank you so much! That means the world to me 🤗💗 have a lovely day 💗
Omg my mom just told me today that I'm getting a pom this weekend I'm watching all the tips I need so tysm!
Edit: omg i totally forgot about this comment im so sorry
to those who were curious, we got a mix breed (pom × poodle), he's the fluffiest thing we ever owned. 😍💕
he learns tricks quite easily, takes 1 hour - 1 day to perfect a trick for him, the earlier the better! His potty training took 4 months for him to adjust :')
Tyrrelle12 so hows it going?
Did you get it?
And I care why ❓
Tyrrelle12 that’s lucky :(
Lucky I can't get one until I'm 18 cause I already have to much animals
This was very helpful as I might be getting a Pomeranian soon , thank u Katie !! Xx 😘
Sam Hunter ah I’m so pleased you found it helpful! I’ll have a video live soon about what you really need when you get a puppy, so hopefully that will be useful too! 💗
I Think I’m Getting A Pomeranian Soon
Did u get one
As a Pom owner I am very impressed by the accuracy of this. Great job! 🐾
Owning a pom is indeed hard work. I own a 14 month old. The amount of love we get in return is worth how busy my pom keeps us. They are worth all the work.
I’m getting 1 in 3 weeks so I’m watching this before I get a Pomeranian
xmaewinter hows it going??
@@emilybraverman4299 i want to know too
bellaxmae did u get it

I'm so happy , in a few months i'm gonna adopt my first Poméranian. I just have before big dog so it's my first my little dog
Magalie Mucienko that’s so exciting! They will be the best of friends!
I’m watching it in 2024 and it makes me feel so much more confident in getting my pom puppy in a few weeks 🥹💛
I’ve only ever had larger dogs or chihuahuas so I’ve been stressing for a bit, but after watching this video it makes me feel so much better 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm bringing home Loki my black pomeranian in December. This video was very helpful. He is the runt and relaxed and I'm hoping that he will get along with my 8 year old Yorkie. Can't wait!
I’m so excited for you! Keeping all my fingers crossed that they get along! Wishing you so much luck with the introduction 💗
I chose the runt too. mine was a lot smaller than her siblings at 2 months, and at 5 months old, she has out grown 3 of her siblings already. She's very smart and more dominant than most her siblings.
I get my Pom in a week I’m so excited I’m naming him Rover
Did u get it?
Charlotte Rawlins I did he too cute
@@shad2434 aaawww you're so lucky! How big is your pom?

I've had my pom for 7 years and he is still as crazy since the first day we got him.
Haha love it!
You are my pom guru! Very excited to see more films about Pepi and your experience with her. In a few months, I think I get my pom ❤️
madziulowata ah yay! Maybe I need a rebrand to ‘The Pom Guru’ 😉 haha it has a good ring to it! 😋💗
I am getting one that is two months old in a couple of days and I am so excited!
Ah so exciting congratulations!
i agree with everything!! especially the sensitive stomachs point! I have had a few Pomeranian and they become over weight VERY easily. and cant eat any variety of food. they’ll gain too much weight and will feel sick. Also, the barking is CRAZY. its another level of barking. you don’t even understand until you meet one haha
Thx I'm thinking of getting a pom after lockdown has ended 😜😍😋
I care why ❓
Same
i’m getting a pom during lockdown 😂 wow
ItzRandom. Same i just got my teacup pomeranian yesterday T v T. She’s a girl uwu
Embrace mi we’re did you get your Pomeranian I can’t find one at all!
Oh my goodness... you are so right in their high intelligence!!! I can't spell the word "walk" because she knows what it means.
Yep!! Ours have now learnt that, and the spelling of treat haha 💗
Sorry to hear about your guinea pig 😔
Fiorella sounds like a darling!
I agree, they are the loveliest! Congratulations on your new baby and your channel! x
Hi Katie, I worked with my Pomeranian when I first got her and would just say quiet and put my finger on my lip. She went to beginner training and they did the same thing and also said to give her a treat and say good quiet to reinforce when she is being quiet on her own accord 😊
mine also has bad eye sight so we got him glasses. they seem to be working really well! ;0
Awww I bet it looks cute 😍
Lol
omg 🥺🥺
Lmao. You're joking. 😆
is she trained to pee outside if yes how the hell did you train her to do that??
They really are a family member aren’t they! 💗
Glad you found it useful! x
My Pom does the exact same thing when I hold him. He looks away like that lol
They have such perfect little personalities and characters 😂
Definitely a noise distraction technique is the way to go! 💗
I love ur vids. Pepi is so cute. these tips are very helpful
Elzbieta Kungys thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed! 😘
omg such a little cutie!!! she reminds me so much of my pom when she was younger!
Very good information. Thank you. I have a 4 month old toy pom. Love her to bits❤ Always good to learn new things about poms.😊
Just got a Pom 4 months old. Thank you for the information it was very helpful. Looking forward to your videos.
OMG THX THIS HELPED ME ALOT!! I AM GETTING A POM SOON!!!!
finally someone mentions hat you shouldn't cut their fur! I have a german Mittelspitz (looks 100% like a pom but is bigger) and it makes me soo sad to see how many pom/spitz owners don't know that you shouldn't cut their fur
They do look SO similar! I feel like people are told conflicting information so it's very hard to know what the right thing to do is!
@@MrsKatieHeath that's true. The pom is actually the smallest size of the german spitz.. there are like 4 other types of the german spitz (the main difference is actually just the size)
Thank you so much for this video!I've been begging for a dog for 14 years and I might get a pomeranian this year💜💜💜
omg army
I’m adopting one very soon and I won’t stop watching these type of videos even thought ik so much about them 😂
Ah congratulations! Haha always here if you have questions
I heard that from a young age if you train puppies properly, they tend to control their barking. I’m not sure if it’s true though...
Awww I’m glad you can both help each other! 🤗
Getting my own Pomeranian Baby soon so trying to get notes. My mom has an 2 month year old Pomeranian boy but we are still learning how on to take care of them. And want to make sure we are doing it right. So this video was very helpful ❤
I am watching this before getting a pom, these are great tips!
Me too 😜
I have had 5 and none have had any patella problems.
OMG so CUTE! My POM POM lived 16 years!
That’s incredible! I really hope ours have a long happy life 🤗💗
I have a Pomeranian age two her name is Rosie does like the vet but loves walking playing with her ball just loves life she is so cute everyone ones loves her 😍✨✨

thanks a LOT for the useful information and to be COMPLETELY honest i did do and will really really LOVE pomeranians
She so adorable!! I hope I get the love back.
Thank you so so much! 💗

Thanks so much Katie that helped so much because I was thinking to get a Pom
Glad it helped! Let me know if you have any suggestions of videos that you would like to see that I haven’t already done!
Could u do how to take care of a pom
Poms do like to bark, it's one of their favorite things to do. I don't know a way to get them to stop. If you have more than one dog, the Pomeranian likes to be Boss Dog. They want to control who gets the attention, and everything else dog related.
They literally do don’t they! 😂
True story
Ty! I was thinking Of adopting one next year
Yes, the first one is so true I've tried walking my pomeranian around the neighborhood and I met quite a lot of friends because of my pom and it gave me some confident and my social anxiety is kicking in but it gave me more confident
And number 9 yes, they are not scared of dogs which are 10 times bigger their size.
TYSM im getting a Pomeranian Really soon!!! And I will Listen to you!! Definitely use these tips!!
did you get the pomeranian? ^^
I want one but my mom doesnt like dogs and my dad says its too expensive 😕 I hope someday I get one
•Itz Camii• my dad said that to but in the end he gave it to me as a present >w<
My dad said he hates dogs too but our puppy still makes him happy
•Itz Camii• there are some breeders that will sell them for a lot cheaper than others
Bella Smith do you know where you can buy/adopt them? I’ve been trying to find a place to buy dogs
haha, my parents said that too! But don’t worry, my sister had to wait YEARS for a puppy, but wer’re getting one soon since she has her own money now, and she also did ALOT convincing.
Midnight it depends on what breed your family wants

This must be what my neighbor has. She has a larger Pom and he is so cute. I wondered if he was a mixed breed but he must just be a larger size.
If my Pom is hardcore barking, I know I’m not winning that battle 😂 But usually I pet her and love on her and tell her “that’s enough” and “no more” and her attention shifts to me and she stops. I’ve always talked to her like a person she’s so smart haha.
Right?! Once they start and get it in their heads, distraction is tough 😂💗
In a few days I'm getting this beautiful white pom. He's only 8 weeks old. Looking at every video I can lol
I’m getting a Pomeranian for Christmas 😊
Yeah me too!!!!... I'm getting hum tomorrow tho
Me 3 !!!!!
I’m getting a puppy for Christmas too! But we cant decide which small breed 😔 do you recommend the Pomeranian?
@@oscar1352 yeah the white one would be a good one for my opinion
Nice information, loved it
2:23 Katie I couldn't agree more on this. Hope you don't come late everywhere like me. My Pomeranian wants to walk and play with everyone that passes,I believe he is used to the attention outside..😂
Late EVERYWHERE 😂 it’s a thing! 💗
“They love being around people”
The dog: 😐
Hahha just kidding !! I used to have a pom they are so friendly. I want to get another one
I’m getting one thank you For saying all those things
All amazing tips, thank you for sharing! 💗
Good luck!
the first one is so relatable!
