Lovely video, I'm so happy that not only you like Vietnamese food, you also looked into the history and geography to understand why the food is this way. Btw, the food you introduced are street food, not what Vietnamese eat everyday as family meals. A normal family meal would consist of rice, a meat dish, a vegetable dish, and a soup. I think it's a pity that travelers usually don't get to try a normal family meal because it's just as good as our famous street food.
Ah yes you are totally right! I actually did each a lot of home style Vietnamese food in Hue, Da Nang and Saigon, just not Hanoi. I have footage from that and i definitely plan to share that :) There was sooo much more history I wanted to share but didn’t want to bog the video down too much 😅
I love how you really try to fully understand and convey the tradition and ingredients behind the food you eat and show! It is such an appreciative way to enjoy the dishes of another culture
I’ve been doing this my whole life, I love learning about food so much!!! It’s insane how much language, culture and history you can learn from eating!!!
Welcome to Vietnam 🫰✌️🇻🇳😃 Restaurants, pharmacies and grocery stores run by professional and friendly people with reasonable prices are everywhere on the streets of Vietnam. Visitors do not have to worry about hunger or illness. This is very difficult to establish a complete system in other countries for tourism. Thanks for share.
This was a joy to watch! I'm always looking for interesting videos and your tips of history with vlog-esque scenes is the perfect kind of content for me, at least. It's so rare to find a sincere and simple tour diary with genuine expressions of interest and amusement for the culture you're in. Keep up with the great job, Rachel! Hugs from a brazilian girl dreaming to go overseas!
Woah the way you explain the food and filming is so interesting to watch. The banana in bun oc is actually green unripe ones that's why it's starchy when cooked.
Thank you so much for explaining the regional variations of Vietnamese food. It is often something not addressed in many food vlog channels and people outside Vietnam normally would have no clue
Phở Thìn: There's actually TWO different "brands" of Thìn because there was two gentlemen that open up shop for it. One was in 1955 the other in the 1970s. You went with the brand from the 70s and they are famous for stir fried beef Phở. The senior Thìn don't have that style at all. Bún Chả: Some place sell crab pring roll with the dish as well. Its pretty expensive with each "nem" costing as much as the dish itself since crab meat is expensive. Bánh cuốn: Pretty legit place, if it was the place on Hàng Than then I've eaten at that place for over 20 years now. Ngõ Đồng Xuân is da bomb. You are legit for going there. Just go front to back in that alley and you get a pretty good feel of what the city have to offer. Bánh dày: You should try the beef meat patty one "giò bò". Personal favorite of mine since giò lụa is less flavorful and spiced than giò bò. Bánh giò: My favorite spot is on Thụy Khuê, their special is a full meal in of itself. Bún đậu and nem chua: Pretty good. Nem chua rán is da bomb though you should try it. Cháo sườn is great. There's a spot that I like but too bad the lady that sells it passed due to COVID and her daughter can't keep up with what mom did. Eaten there since I was a baby. Bánh đúc: no comment since I don't eat it much The chè shop you go to near Chợ Gạo used to be an internet cafe back in the day. I spent more time in there and suffers from secondary smoking there more than I can admit. Comments from a local for the algorithm. Thank you for making the video
Came back from the video you sent yourself and I have to say that when youtube algorithm took me to your video, I just kept watching and didn’t pay attention at how many subscribers and videos you got. Through the quality of the video, I honestly thought that you’re a professional reviewer who have filmed hundreds of videos. I think the video quality is really good and you’re doing well, so keep on producing new videos!
Aww thank you so much! I appreciate it :) so excited to make more! It’s been a lifelong passion and I’m so happy to now be able to nerd out on it and build a community
Love the place and the amazing people!!🍉🍇🥝🍓 I like the traditional soup(pho) very flavorful and tasty..🍅🍏🍏🥦🍉 Nice showcasing your adventure!!Well done and blessings to you
Luv!!!!!! your Video , great style and wonderful info , so glad you are adventurous with all the great food there , Hanoi is one of my favorite cities in the world : )
Gostei do vídeo.
Excellent video! Subscribed :) Watching this makes me miss my hometown and the food there so much. Oh and just fyi, the lady at 7:02 was asking you if the food tasted good and also that you would look even prettier with your hat off haha. Very sweet lady indeed!
You don't HAVE to get mắm tôm for 'Bun dau mam tom', you can just ask for normal fish sauce and put some sugar in, it's not compulsory that you eat mắm tôm.
Do they give fork? I'm going to Vietnam soon and my biggest worry is eating with chopsticks, since most of the places I've seen only give chopsticks. I don't know how to eat with chopsticks. Is it disrespectful to carry your own fork?
It's well made and edited. But there are some minor wrong details that you got. "Bánh" does refer to anything baked or bread like, and it still also means dessert items like cakes or cookies. "Chè" only means those sweet soup/toppings you got and not any other desserts
I went!! Saigon was my FAVORITE city of this trip! The footage in my first video at the end is from Saigon :) I still am working through all my footage and have so much more to say!
Black colonizer goes to Vietnam, claims everything is French, putting French music, "French did superior civilisactre this and that", and expecting angers from Viets

So happy to hear that! Thank you

Omg you really went an extra mile on exploring the food in Hanoi. Your video covers a lot of food that I haven’t seen foreigners eating
:D I’m lucky to have grown up with so many Vietnamese friends that gave me a head start with all the food knowledge!
Oh hey. I was born in Ha Noi, all meals in your video 10 out 10. Wishing you the best and most beautifuly in VN

Watching this makes me miss my hometown and the food there so much. Oh and just fyi, the lady at 7:02 was asking you if the food tasted good and also that you would look even prettier with your hat off haha. Very sweet lady indeed!
Aww that makes me so happy! And thank you - I was wondering what she was saying haha. My hat hides my sweaty hair in the sweltering heat 😆

Haha! She was so sweet! Message me on instagram and I can send you the exact location. It’s a small shop so don’t want it to get flooded by tourists

Some places have forks! Just ask. I’m sure it won’t be disrespectful if you bring your own fork :)
small local resto not gonna have fork so better just bring your own in case. It is not disrespect at all so dw.

Yes! I should’ve said “not necessarily” meaning sweet cakes. That was my mistake. Didn’t realize that about che! Thank you :)
Bun cha, the noodles is supposed to be dipped in the soup before eating

Hi 🫠
Hello
LOL. Only tourists would eat youtiao.
Really? I saw so many locals eating it :) all the locals at my table would point to it to order!
Are you sitting in a bathtub LOL
HAHHA yes I was running out of places to film. The initial way I planned the video changed so I just made use of the original footage
Vietnam and the food would be more enjoyable if the people didn’t throw garbage everywhere and the vendors practiced hygiene.
Most of the vendors I went to were actually quite clean! Yes it can be dirtier than other places but it could also be a lot worse :)
