Nobody has been able to explain the switching system adequately yet. *Switch down* - 5-way selector behaves like normal Strat style selector, except position 1 engages full bridge humbucker. *Switch up* - Les Paul style selector in positions 1, 3, and 5 (treating neck+mid pickups like a single series-wired humbucker), position 2 is bridge single coil, and position 4 is tele-style neck+bridge single coil.
I purchased the blue one Pete is holding three months ago. I had it professionally set up which it needed. For a $2000 guitar you would think it would be set up already. That was my only con. The guitar is flawless and the neck is beautiful. I was stuck between this guitar and the Fender Ultra in cobalt blue. They are close in price. But I am very happy with my first Ibanez!
Dude Ibanez has been doing great things under the radar for years now, they’re starting to break into the mainstream and show people that they’re more than metal shredding guitars. I’ll have to get one sometime soon
Under the radar? More than shredding guitars? Ibanez has been above the radar, and for more than shredders, for years now. Pat Metheny, George Benson, John Schofield, various members of the Grateful Dead, punk rockers, country players... they've literally suited them all for decades now.
Under the radar to traditional strat and tele players maybe . But the AZ RANGE CAME OUT IN 2018 plus all the superb jazz boxes for many years but I know what you mean
@@dezertson2011 yeah I appreciate the range isn’t new, I feel that some of the specific features on this specific S-type model have elevated the range even higher.
As someone who has owned all of those guitars, the AZ is my favorite. They really nailed the neck and body contours on these guitars. The perfect mesh of vintage meets modern IMO. About to pull the trigger on a second one lol
Ibanez already done this in the 90's with the Ibanez Talman... guitars like TM1730 and TM302 , but they discontinued this series of guitars.. Ibanez should just reissue the Talmans because their headstock was more fitting for a vintage look than these current Ibanez headstocks.. Ichika Nito gets amazing tones and playing with the Talman..
I have a question,I only have space for one guitar do I get a Fender American ultra strat (hss) or do I get the Ibanez az4022n (the blue one in the video) ?
I guess the look of them is making you play a certain way, but man you're underselling these. 35 guitars now and the AZ took over my life. IT does it all. I use it instead of my usa fender strat for SRV and in place of my GIbson for Journey and other hard rock. The neck is a dream, everything I never would have asked for but it's just perfect.
@@jamesbirch6522 Well, don't blink or things will change, I've fallen back in love with my Strat lol. The AZ is still my favorite guitar though, but you didn't do anything wrong. Everyone needs a good fender strat, nothing else does Fender better than fender. But AZ is more a competitor to Suhr and upper scale strats, definitely stomps the PRS Silver Sky, I had one and sold it quickly. I'll also say that the AZ is just about the only model from Ibanez that I'm perfectly willing to say the Premium is just as good. Same specs, same pickups, same electronics, the only minor difference is the metal used in the trem, however they are BOTH Gotoh brand and both are very stable.
@@robrudock3452 Soooo. Im thiiiis close to buying a Fender Stratocaster American Professional 2 (Not these weird Ultra Luxe Strats). But the Specs are kinda dissapointing, for the money. Thats why i thought about getting the Ibanez AZ 2204N instead. How would you say, these two compare? It sounds like it gets close. (And yes i sure want to test both of them myself, when i have the time)
@@Cr3pit0 AZ is not competing with Fender. They are chasing Suhr prospects. Only a Fender can be a Fender, so get one if that's what you want. The A Z I a Swiss army knife, over 10 voicing. The oval neck shape is delicious, a breakthrough really. Fills the hand and still fast as a Frisbee on ice. Means Barre chording won't get fatiguing like when you're constantly hovering behind the flat neck unable to rest your palm completely. I have a USA Special strat. Black with cream like Gilmour. Love it to death and use it all the time for certain things like Hendrix and srv. But if I'm only taking one guitar, I'm taking the AZ flat out. Also look at Schecter Nick Johnston for a very decent build. I love the sun Valley Shredders too, i,ve come to depend on the sustaniac for all the options during solos, and I do a ton of 10 minute improvs. That's eating into my AZ time but the AZ is semper fi. It's a strat, an lp, a prs, it can get close to all.
I love two types of guitars. Single pickup single volume guitars, and ones like these that are capable of a huge range of tones. I always seem to feel like single pickup guitars have more mojo and they all seem to sound more unique, but sometimes you just need something different to inspire you

Greetings from California! I am completely astounded and horrified that you guys view Denny's as a good thing, as something to look forward to. LOL! Love you guys, bye!
The Ibanez AZ series guitars are really beautiful sounding, and classic looks. I'm sad that they're only available in the Prestige and Premium ranges though. I do hope they have more of the AZ in the more affordable price ranges. They would make really good counterpoints of Yamaha's Pacificas.
You know, I spent a year ignoring these guitars because I felt like Ibanez was reverting back to making copycat guitars. Circling back, I’m starting to understand them better, and now I want one
I don’t own an Ibanez at the moment but it seems like they are killing it right now. Definitely wanna try one of these. I wonder if the have a similar neck carve to a Suhr?
@@valebliz Oh yeah, can't argue for the ergos, just to get a wizard-like neck you'd need to pay a pretty penny to make it semi-custom made by someone like Warmoth and co, not the same kind of neck socket and that's fact. It's on their page: www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/az2204n_00_01.html see the switching diagram. It's easier to visualize than verbalize.
It's a normal coil tap.
what about the 2HB guitar? is this power tap mode for hb in 1, 3, 5 positions is regular parallel mode?

Each year, Ibanez has a bunch of must-have guitars but I have been fighting the temptation...but for this year I lost xD Because of the RG565 reissue.
hey, it's you!
Now that's a side I did not know you had, great stuff on the latest videos.
Justify buying by selling some of your less expensive guitars. That’s what I try to do. Does it work? No
