Meg does a great job in all her training videos. This is an excellent bunting video. One thing I would add for the basic sac bunt is to have the batter take a slightly open stance so when she pivots into the bunting position she has greater balance. If she has a square stance and pivots her feet will be inline with each other so it would be as if she is trying to balance on a railroad rail. If her normal hitting stance is a closed stance it becomes even more difficult because, after the pivot into proper bunting position, she will actually be a bit cross legged making balance even more difficult. The adjustment in the stance is minimal...only a couple of inches.

Great explanation. My daughter is joining a team that bunts a lot more, so we'll be practicing this a lot!

For righthanded bunters, consider switching to slapper style footwork. When we did this several years ago with our middle and high school players we saw instant improvement in bunting effectiveness among all players regardless of skill level. With righties, they begin with the same slapper type crossover step with their right foot stepping toward the front inside corner of the box. Timing is such that as the ball arrives, the player pauses just in time to bunt the ball from a settled position with knees bent at contact. Advantages: Correct bat angle is much easier to achieve because the footwork automatically squares the shoulders with the path of the pitch; The bunter achieves a shift to the front of the box directly from their normal batting stance as the pitch is on its way without giving away the fact that they are bunting; Contact with the ball in the front of the box GREATLY improves the chances of the ball staying fair because they are actually bunting over fair ground rather than over foul ground; Bunting in the front of the box puts the player closer to first base when contact is made. As players become proficient with this style, it is very easy for them to progress to full speed drag bunting with no pause at contact. The one downside to this style is that some players may tend to step in front of the plate until they learn the correct footwork. This style is NOT the old baseball bunting technique where baseball bunters square their feet. 🤔

Thanks for this great video ! What are the benefits of keeping the barrel above your hands as opposed to completely level ?

Less likely to get under the ball at contact...

There is no advantage. It is a more natural position. An important flaw to look for is those players who overdo this and begin chopping at the ball.

Is there a reason why the barrel is higher than the knob vs the bat being straight?
