I love to see how your brain works here. Turning around things and give it a diffetent use. It's nice to see your partly organised clippings look a lot like mine, I see use in almost everything. Magazines here are a lot more expensive specially those with pictures. The realy old ones you get only in s specialised businesses and are incredebly costly. I hope to see you use some of the pics you use in an unusual way. Thanks

I love clipping magazines. My M-i-L gets lots of nature magazines and clips them for me. I have gallon bags devoted to Missouri Conservation, Sierra, and Garden Gate. Beautiful images, and like you I like to look at patterns and colors for collage backgrounds or little "pops" on a page. I was getting mags cheap at the thrift store, but it's been closed since March. I'll have to check out my local library to see if they have any books and mags for sale. :)
I love that Better Homes and Garden magazine! Makes me want to go out and find more vintage magazines because I tend to hoard! 😂 I've never made paperclips out of images. I'm going to have to go back to one of your old videos and see how you showed us!

I would love to see some journals without using digital kits or make one that is themeless. I think it would be somewhat challenging to put together something cohesive without the benefit a digital kit. Have you tried that in the past? My reason for asking is those start to look a lot the same to me.
Yes, I agree, Tina. Sometimes I think the digital kits suppress our creativity. Yes, I have made journals without digitals. In these journals, there was minimal use of digital pages, and most of my ephemera was handmade.
they used different kinds of film (real films, not digital images) and different lighting than today. I think the fuji film captured more of the reds and oranges so you get that 50-70s look to the image... also, I think the old inks, the ones that had little bits of lead in it, also gave a better super saturation to the images. You are right Diane, it is interesting how the foods looks so different in old images-- frankly to me they really don't look appetizing! HAHA

Thanks, Celeste. I complete my signatures, and add in the journal cards and tags, etc., then I put the signatures between the 2 covers and line the "spine" up on the ruler on my mat to see how wide I can space the covers comfortably (without a "gator mouth"). That is how I determine the size of my spine. I cut the chip board to that size, and construct the cover. Hope this helps!
Great video. Learned so much. I love garden magazines but when I try to use them in my journals the glossy paper seems to look so out of place. Am I being wierd?
No you're not being weird. You need to go with your creative instincts. Maybe you could try making a journal with a "clean" and "fresh" look, not so vintage, that you can use the glossier pages in?

Yes, the stack of old BH&G magazines are pretty old, from the 1930s-1950s, but in pretty good shape!

I know you love old magazines! I just listed a bunch of these in my shop, but you usually get a much better price at estate sales.

What do you usually do with the circles of paint that you cut out? You gave me some great ideas for magazine clippings!
I just really like to use circle shapes to add interest to collages, etc. And the paint colors are pretty versatile for that.

I agree! There are very few food images in the old magazines that look appetizing, but I'm a picky eater!
