One of my best friends passed away from Colon Cancer at 29 years old. She was diagnosed with stage 3 at 27 years old I believe, so devastating. I miss her Terribly.
Please ALWAYS look before you flush! If you see blood, DO NOT assume that you have hemorrhoids, especially if you have any changes in your bowel movements. I’m am a colorectal cancer survivor, that has Lynch Syndrome-going on 11 years now. I have had, and will continue to have colonoscopies annually, for the rest of my life. Colon/colorectal cancers are one of the most treatable cancers, if you catch it in time. Please listen to your body, and don’t be embarrassed to talk about your bowel movements, AND definitely DO NOT be afraid of colonoscopies!
I can attest It wasn’t colon cancer for me but quick and severe Ulcerative Colitis. It’s a long story but in a nutshell I got bad stomach pains and bleeding for around a week before I got treatment. I’m fine now, but looking back I should’ve gotten help immediately. I too assumed it was a bug and I had hemorrhoids And yes, I was at first fearful of colonoscopies but after having a few I can say they’re not even that bad. The prep is the worst though LOL
Processed foods are to blame is my opinion. What are the Colon Cancer rates in other countries that eat less processed food in the same demographic? Would be interesting to see if that has been looked at yet.
baby boomers, gen z, millenials are all equally exposed to processed foods. gen z and millenials born 70's 80's and 90's . expanded program on immunization started in 70's and fully implemneted worldwide mid 80's. theres the answer.
I had a colonscopy at 40 and have many polyps. I think dietary changes are important. I’m really healthy and I exercise almost daily. I’m still at risk and am recommended to return in 3 years given my high number of polyps. Thank you for this. Video reminder !
@@gabim3093 , nothing is 100% but exercise and eating right improves chances of being healthy. I no longer take metformin cuz my A1c or glocuse has improved dramatically by eating healthier and exercising everyday.
The recommended testing age had been lowered BUT to get insurance companies on board is the issue. To get young people to believe it is another. The tests are not cheap and the Cologuard is NOT reliable. Many false readings. I have had two colonoscopies, the last one was after a false positive from a Cologuard test. Both colonoscopies were totally clean, NO polyps either time. People joke about the prep and think it's difficult. Trust me, it is NOT. They have better prep methods now, my second one was a piece of cake. My husband was an idiot and died of colon cancer, TOTALLY not necessary, and trust me everyone, it was ugly, very ugly. You do NOT want that. Please please, please get your screening.
I had one at 31 due to my father dying at 53 with a relapse. He was told he had colon cancer the first time at 48 after seeking the test early after having bathroom issues.
San Francisco has a lot of problems with crime and high prices, but UCSF is an amazing beacon of hope for patients everywhere. I'm proud of having gone to school there, over 100 years and still no sports!
The sad thing is colon cancer is rising because of our food, people are not eating, sustainable food, and everything is processed. Processed processed. Our bodies are not used to dealing with that. Therefore, it’s causing horrible illnesses not just colon cancer.
I can only comment on what I see with the people in my life and it is not good. One small example from last week. I work retail for a company that sells grills. To demo a grill other workers were super excited once again the samples would be burnt ends...of hot dogs!!!! Double dose of carcinogens please. Any processed meat that stays pink contains nitrites a class 1 carcinogen. Burning or cooking meat well makes it more of a carcinogen. I say nothing upon hearing this or face the wrath and ridicule of my co-workers. There are 3 people in my co-worker group of around 50 with cancer (full disclosure one is a spouse). For the 2 years I’ve known her one receiving chemo has eaten meat sticks on every break I have ever seen. Again, I will not say anything, the single time I did, if looks could kill I’d be dead. Seriously though you’d have thought I was the dumbest person in the room the comments and put downs. Stay informed and take care.
I'm assuming you went to the ER? They're not there to diagnose cancer unless it's a dire emergency and the patient needs life saving measures. As someone else said, go to a primary doctor and/or a GI doctor.
My daughter got colon cancer at 27,. She stage 4 for 5 years. She died in 2009. She took acutane at 15 for acne. I think it caused her cancer. Very sad❤
I'm so sorry for your loss😢 My daughter also got acne in her 20s. She never had it as a teen Shes 27 now..but tries to control it with her diet Dairy makes her break out
just had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, all clear. I freaked myself out so bad the day before and morning of, I was throwing up (not from prep, from nerves), dizzy, chest pain (again anxiety), got to the hospital..........they took me back right away given I was a complete mess (my doc is great!) and guess what.......no big deal!!! The staff was great at making me comfortable both physically n mentally and actually talked n joked with me as I was going under sedation. Get screened!! U r knocked out n dont feel or know anything.
Question. Now the recommendations are to do an occult stool test at Kaiser. There is no recommended colonoscopy test there. Unless you are symptomatic . Is this sufficient or is Kaiser just trying to save money!
@@marilynH66 my Gastro ordered my Colonoscopy at 42 and he offered me the endoscopy too. He said might as well do both while you are under. They’ll have to order a test or they will be liable for negligence! Or find another gastro

Drinking alcohol can lead to colon cancer, as well as stomach, esophagus, and liver cancer.
As well as bladder cancer. Alcoholism can really boost the cancer risks.

99% of people who get a colonoscopy have at least one polyp.
Eat more fiber, veggies and fruits. Minimize sodas and drink water and tea instead.
Fiber veggies and fruits are indigestible. Water actually dehydrates you more and tea hardens your kidneys

I think , in my personal opinion, the type of food that a person takes, play a part too.

They do recommended colonoscopy starting at 50
