    What a freaking guitar! Thanks to Chapman Guitars and Octave Music for sending it out :)

    • @metallixro

      It looks great but I don't get what makes this guitar more expensive than all the LTDs and Schecters that come out of the same factory. I'm sure anyone who spends 1200 euros/dollars on a guitar would be super nitpicky and those finish issues would be a no go so I for one really appreciate you showed them! :)

    • @Todesnuss
      @Todesnuss 6 років тому +7

      They use more expensive wood. Steel frets and glowing sidedots are also a good bit more expensive. As for other hardware I'm not sure what other brands use but those tuners cost quite a bit on their own. Also all LTDs and Schecters that are cheaper than this I've seen so far came from indonesia, so propably the factory where the Chapman standards are made.

    • @goldmagikarp0140
      @goldmagikarp0140 6 років тому +2

      Metallix not a chapman fanboy but at that price having stainless steel frets and neck through guitar and u even get a hardshell case which schecters of the same price dont. The only issue i have with it is its fairly unknown pickups but theres no complains about it online so its a pretty good guitar

    • @Todesnuss
      @Todesnuss 6 років тому

      So I just had a look at the LTD EC-401 which is made in Korea. Just about all specs on that thing are weaker or even tot this. The Pickups being the exception but then again the Chapmans are custom voiced for the model. Add to that the fact that the wood and construction are a lot cheaper without a solid flame cap und with a cheaper construction. The EC-1000 comes a bit closer but is barely cheaper and doesn't have any case coming with it which makes up for the price difference. And even that thing is massive mahogany and set-neck.

    • @metallixro
      @metallixro 6 років тому +1

      How do you know they use more expensive woods ? That is what you assume. Steel frets and brand tuners should not account for 30% more money compared to lets say an LTD EC-1000 series made in the same factory. Maybe its the neck through construction... but this thing is more expensive than an american made Gibson LP Studio. Id say that while the guitars are good/great, customers have started paying for the name quite a bit. Personal 2 cents

    Just like you, I absolutely love the ML-2. I'ts probably the only single cut I found comfortable to play. Super thin body with comfortable carves and even though I am not a fan of those kinds of bridges at all, I found it incredibly easy to play. That's definitely on my wishlist since i tried it.
    Awesome video, though! I've been watching you for a while and I really enjoy your content. :)

    I nearly bought this guitar. The positives are I love the satin finish, it feels sleek and fast. The body is shaped like a sportscar, it's like a Les Paul built for speed. Its heavy enough to feel substantial but considerably lighter than a traditional Les Paul style guitar. The neck through construction makes it look fancy and the natural binding is nice.
    However, the pickups sound like icepicks. Painfully bright and 1 dimensional. If you play metal and want something to cut, this will be good but if you like fuller more balanced tone, not the pickups for you.
    Then there's the price. This is where they lost me, there are just too many better options in the $1000 range. I bought an American made PRS S2 standard 22 for a little less and I dont plan on changing a thing. The feel was just as nice, it looked better to me and had a full balanced tone that sounded beautiful clean and with crunch. The Chapman's are too expensive now and there are too many better options. More established brands with better resale value without the need of buying new pickups. To make this guitar a keeper I would need to spend another $300 on pickups. To

    Hopefully you get a few more Chapman guitars to review in the future. I love the Tele style one.

  • @TheBrewdonkey

    I'm also a single-cut fan. My first mid-level guitar was a Kirk Hammett style ESP with reverse headstock. It had a goddamn Floyd Rose on it that made me want to smash it against a wall sometimes. Locking tuners somewhat helped but it made me want to look elsewhere. I stumbled on the EC-1000 series and found my soulmate. I've been with them ever since. Tried Jackson, Dean, Ibanez, Schecter, Gibson, Fender, and others and they never had that mean crunch or the feel of the EC-1000's. Of course, PRS are in a class all their own but I decided I would rather buy a car than a guitar with that much money.
    I've been watching Rob Chapman's guitars penetrate the UA-cam scene for a few years now and I've become a believer. I don't think you could buy off that many YT guitarists. Jared Dines, Rob Scallon, yourself, and all the rest are prolific musicians and I enjoy what you guys create. I'm now going to sample one of these bad boys myself to see what all the hype is about. I will say that this model looks as though I designed it myself. The aesthetics are exactly what I'm looking for.
    My only concern relates to the pickups. I've been a hardcore EMG-81 in the bridge for over a decade. My tone is centered around active pickups and I prefer the boost they give my signal. Could this guitar handle EMG's or the Fishman Fluence Will Adler set? I know they're a brushed, antique gold but I'm referring more to the shape and functionality of the set placed into this body.

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 років тому +3

      Yeah, there's a reason the majority of feedback towards these guitars is overwhelmingly positive. They're just good, good guitars. And yeah, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be able to drop those pickups in there. The pickup routs are pretty standard. Man, this thing with a set of Willies...

    This is the first usable review of this guitar so far. I'm still a little sceptic about the consistency (QC) of the first run since I saw that some are not flawless. Do I see correctly that the jack socket is not parallel with the line of the cap?
    I think we have to wait a couple of months or a year to see the following runs (series) and let them make the corrections. It'll be also interesting to see the prices of the new and second hand guitars and the experiences.

    personally i prefer the traditional neck join over through neck, but i guess Chapman were going for a modern take, hence the name. Got to be the best looking single cut I've seen though, and as for the pickups i think they've done the right thing by choosing pups that sound best with the guitar, rather than going with duncan's for the sake of it.

  • @Wargasm644
    @Wargasm644 4 роки тому

    I was excited to get my hands on one of these. I love single cut guitars. I had the opportunity to play one recently. My excitement quickly waned. Thing buzzed worse than someone with Parkinson’s playing Operation. The body was so thin that the pickups protruded out of the cavities and just looked horrible. It was too light for my liking. Single cuts should feel “substantial “. This one felt weak and as a result was a bit top heavy. Now it’s completely possible that I got my hands on a lemon. The fret edges felt nice, and the neck felt good. But they didn’t sound as good as they appeared. The pickups were decent. The fit and finish on the rest of the guitar were ok. But should’ve been a little better for the asking price. Machine heads were great. But for the money, you could buy a nice LTD Eclipse decked out with EMG’s. Or you could get a slightly used ESP E2 Eclipse. They’ll probably get it dialed in within the next generation or two. But for now, I’ll stick with ESP/LTD, Schecter, Solar, Ibanez etc. 👊🏻 Have a nice day 🤘🏻

    Iam getting one of these soon and i have a pair of emg 81/85 lying around would you recommend replacing the stentorian chapman p/ups with emg's? I play metal and heavy rock and roll.

    Saw Metallica last night, Papa Het is a beast, just saying. I like the natural binding on this axe :) How they've done it around the contours. Also, you make it sound pretty wicked.

    I´ve had a couple LTDs and a Dean guitar from the same factory and they do seem to make a lot of minor mistakes when with the finishes (mostly around that same area where the neck and fretboard meet the body). Pretty much everything else on the guitars have been immaculate though. Really well built and resonant guitars.

      @@ermonski I know it's like a year late but if I were to put on the pickup rings separately would that get me a more flush look? I'm considering this guitar but I don't like the way that looks so I would want to change that if possible.

      @@iamDBA1 it could look more flush if you have pickup rings on it. Not sure if you could fit one on the neck pickup of this ML2 though!

    my current guitar has the epiphone slim taper profile. it is very comfortable in the lower position and a bit less so in the higher position. do you think this neck would be too thick? also I'm thirteen and have slightly smaller hands than an adult

    Hi from the uk Hunter , love the review and awesome playing guitar looks awesome, I have two of the previous ml2's from korea and love them to bits really are great guitars but unfortunately for me I'm a lefty and it doesn't look like they're going to make anymore korean ml2's in lefty ,or for that matter Indonesian ml2s either which is a real shame as the new ones look fantastic and i would definitely have bought one already, FROWNIE FACE 😣

    Awesome review Hunter! Chapman make some truly unbelievable instruments for the money. I have one of the first series Ghost Frets (with the SD pickups) and I love it. It plays every but as well as my USA made Jackson SL2H. Hoping to get my hands on an ML1 Pro someday. Keep up the great work!

    The only thing that I don't like about Chapmans is the lack of pickup rings. I know that it may be good for a sound to mount pickup directly to the body but still prefer the look of a solid chrome rings.

    In a scale from 0 to 10, what will you give it?
    And, do you prefer esp ESP iron cross, or this fantastic chapman?
    I am looking fordward to buy one.
    Thanks Hunter, keep shredding. \m/

      Ugh, I hate giving ratings which is why I don't in videos.. but I guess for me it would be an 8/10. I'm a pretty harsh grader lol. If it had no finish issues and Fishman Fluence pickups in there, it'd be a 10/10.

    • @vitellonealvapore877
      @vitellonealvapore877 6 років тому +4

      If you pay attention you can hear the buzz at he beginning as well. If it does indeed just need a setup, why is he reviewing a guitar which isn't setup correctly? Why isn't he pointing that out as he did in his other videos? Negligence or bad guitar? I've noticed he bashed the crap out of the cheap Thunderbird (fret buzz too), and he was right because Gibson is a shitty fuckin company today. I'm not attacking anyone, but things are not clear here, especially when you definitely hear it sounding bad and the guy is just like mmm yeah let's pretend it's all right. Chapmans have good specs, look really nice but i've seen too much people complain mostly about action and neck, enough to stop me buying one. I'd love to try one, i'm really curious.

    Glad to see Chapman guitars gain popularity. I've been a fan of Rob and the captain for years now. That being said. How hard is it to match the headstock to the body? Other than that...dope!

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 років тому +12

      Apparently, quite. Matt Hornby mentioned it in the NAMM 2017 video. They weren't happy with how sometimes the headstocks wouldn't match the body, so went with a uniform ebony veneer. I actually like it better this way!

      BronzDano completely agree. Look at the old blue ghost fret, the matching head stock looks incredible. Hopefully the 2018 line will have matching ones.
