  • Maria Teresa Rafaela of Spain - Louis XV's Daughter In Law: Marie-Thérèse Antoinette Raphaëlle de Bourbon, Infanta of Spain and Dauphine of France was born on June 11, 1726 in the Royal Alcazar of Madrid (Spain) and died on July 22, 1746 at the Palace of Versailles. She was the daughter of Philip V, King of Spain, and Elisabeth Farnese.
Her marriage to the French Dauphin Louis de France marked the reconciliation between France and Spain, alongside that of Madame Première with Philippe, Duc De Parma, after the failure of the engagement of Louis XV and Mariana Victoria of Spain, elder sister of Marie-Thérèse and Philippe.

So sad she died at just twenty years old. Her daughter's portrait is so cute. Childbirth was treacherous back then. May their souls rest in peace together.

What a beautiful love story. It's sad that Maria Rafaela and her daughter died so young. What a sweet couple they were but I like Maria Josepha of Saxony too. I like how Maria Rafaela, Maria Josepha and Louis Ferdinand were able to show examples of a good marriage in a court where moral values were hardly prioritised.
Also, I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before but the videos on this channel always come out the day after the announced date in my country. I think it's a matter of a difference in time zones. Just wanted to share that.

The main character of Rameau's Opera ballet "Platée", performed at the royal wedding festivities, is often associated with the dauphine because of her features.

I've read that there was some doubt about the propriety of choosing this opera for the wedding celebrations because there could be inferences drawn between the work's ill-favored heroine and the new Dauphine, whose appearance was not universally admired at the time. Incidentally, the opera (the world premiere of which was at those 1745 nuptial celebrations) is thoroughly charming (I've watched an upload of a Parisian staging on UA-cam), and is regarded by some as Rameau's masterpiece.
