Loving these FA reactions! Her music is just this perfect storm of sharp but somewhat playful lyrics, idiosyncratic compositions, and emotionally thunderous performances. It’s like a musical therapy session every listen. I don’t think she has a bad song, but the three newer albums (Extraordinary Machine, The Idler Wheel, and Fetch the Bolt Cutters) are my current favorites. Thanks for letting me relive hearing this for the first time with you!
Fiona was brave enough to talk about her neuro-divergence back in ‘96. It was received as quirky, or psycho, but we all weren’t able to recognize her for how she was. The shift in the mood of the song’s vibe is very intentional. In the 26 years since this album has come out we’ve hopefully made some strides to understand her, and so many others. It’s so different because she’s so different, she’s the voice for others that don’t fit in the way they’re expected.
Fiona is an amazing songwriter with a pristine voice. She is real and raw with her emotional music. Love the torch song. “Slow Like Honey”. Great music. Thanks! Check “Fiona Has Wings” bootleg Albulm.
Fiona is a complex, brilliant human being. Loving this journey for you, and will be here for all of it. Would love to see you listen to something from her 4th album (my fav). Any song would be great, but especially Daredevil, Left Alone, or Werewolf
The music video for this song is great too. Before the bridge she smudges the screen then during the bridge (her softer side opening up) she slowly removes the smudge
She wrote this when she was 18. Think about that. She was and is a brilliant person. She has had so much to overcome, which partially explains how little music she's put out over the years, but she's a genius, and it's very sad that she was used for her young good looks and then totally ignored.
My husband and I had a family-friendly co-joined bachelor party during a Karaoke night at a local pub. We both decided to choose a song to sing to each other. He picked something sappy and sentimental, old-school smooth jamz style and I chose this. He honestly should have listened.
I hope she and Jon Brion will work together on an album because it was such magic when they did. Some of When the Pawn… was recorded in the studio at his house too.
Fiona Apple is way underrated - so powerful, lyrically of course but also singing and musically. She has so many GREAT songs. #sleeptodream
he needs to react to this song!!! definitely a favorite of mine of hers❤️

Fiona loves expanding our vocabularies. Great lyricism & vocals, always.

One of her best, and that's saying something. Cheers.

She's a brilliant, honest artist

Really insightful analysis!
One of my many favourites is "Window". depends what mood I'm in 😄
Listen to the whole album when the pawn...
I love how you went from "some people won't listen to the warning" to "I can fix her" in two minutes. So realistic!

Why wouldn't you use the official video release?
Probably to follow the lyrics
She denies it but its about her mental health and how it affects the people who care for her.
