Man, people in this comment section are on some dumb shit. 1. The ship was sunk intentionally as an artificial reef. 2. No one was actually on board when it sank. 3. The surrounding boats are filled with spectators. 3. The wreck will provide a new home to tons of sea creatures, as well as boost the economy of Pompano Beach via dive expeditions. 4. All hazardous materials were removed prior to the sinking. Did I cover everything?
Don’t know why, but I feel like a ship sinking at the end of its life is the best thing that can happen. As if it’s been constantly working to stay afloat and now it can rest
And pollute the ocean?? And raise water table?? Yeah...cool. you're not talking a few boats, there is so much pollution and they still have spots around islands where they dumped ww2 aircraft and ships and vehicles like jeeps and such and you can go and watch divers take video and its STILL THERE with trash and everything else
@@lovekills3506 Raise the water table......yeah. That's really an issue. Maybe they should shut those offshore volcanoes down as well. And the one on KONA. They scrub the hell out of these things before sinking them. Nonissue these days. But that water table, well ya got me there. If you're this upset about pollution, stop buying anything plastic or packaged in plastic.
@@lovekills3506 How can they raise the water table?! They actually raise it more when they are afloat, as there is something called displacement in case you weren’t aware. When the ship is floating, it’s filled with air, but the weight of it pushes it into the water a bit. This causes hundreds of thousands of tons of water being displaced in the case of supertankers, cruise ships, aircraft carriers, etc., and a few hundred kilos in the case of a small tinny. When a ship is filled with water, that air is eliminated, and thus being filled with it, the ship is displacing less water. The thousands of ships that displace thousands of tons each that are floating on the ocean have not affected the ocean levels, and you know why? Because in most places, the ocean is miles deep, and a single square mile would contain millions of tons of water. Maybe check your facts before typing a comment that makes you look uneducated.
I've lived in Pompano bch. for 53 yrs. Sinking these ships was a great idea. You can get the g.p.s. of these boats. Makes it a good place for fishing. Or a place for diving.
Most of the comments- Why don’t they just sell the ship Why don’t the boats help Why don’t they sell the ship for scrap instead They are making an artificial reef And the best one- They are just throwing garbage into the sea
i cant watch this waste of recycable metal.blatant dumping.still keep digging more materials up!then they are on about mining the oceans.these wrecks wont be there ,for long!
This is a great idea to foster coral reefs. I’m assuming there’s no oil left in the ship and it was tugged there, but it’s still fantastic for the local sealife
While I agree that would be cool, I highly doubt the footage would be all that interesting. You can see that the water is murky enough that be the time any camera is far enough to make the shot worth taking, the most you'll see is an indistinct blob. Furthermore, there's always a touch of ambiguity of how the ship will actually sink, so there's always a chance that you'll end up with the camera getting crushed under the ship.
I thought I wanted to know what it looked like if you went down with the ship. I think I was very wrong. Glad this was planned and for a very good purpose, and not the other thing.
As it is an artificial reef and will be a dive destination I would imagine it is in shallow water. Less than 100ft and most likely the top most parts of the ship are just under the surface.
Mythbusters should take an opportunity like being on the boat to properly test if the suction can pull you under. At least, someone else should since the show has been cancled.
What I learned from watching this is DON'T BE NEAR A BOAT THAT'S SINKING because the water "blows" around in crazy, unpredictable directions and will likely slam you into the boat.
2 Years on from the last comment Perhaps an old decommissioned Cruise Ship could disappear below the surface I can imagine Carnival or RCCL offering Scuba Shore Excursions Go down to visit an old friend
Creating an artificial reef for sea life and they removed all of the hazard materials onboard before sinking her, it will also provide new scuba diving destinations and checkpoints.
They cut a bunch of holes in her. And then blew a few hatches out. She sunk where she was supposed to. OMG, you'd think this is rocket surgery. There was a problem with her displacement. A big one.
These planned sinkings are pretty strictly supervised by fed and state agencies. The EPA loves nothing better than to come down hard on violators. That said, every last drop ? Probably not quite, but pretty darn close !
I love how all the other ships are all around it as it sink, like a ship funeral.
It more or less is, because the tanker was scuttled to make an artificial reef
The sharks playing cards was a nice touch.

Missed one, it was sunk in deep enough waters that ships won't hit it unless you're in a submarine.
One more, the ship was a single hull so it was now illegal and could not be repaired.
you forgot this is much better end for her than sending her to far east to be cut up. :)

Lovely images.
Wait. This was planned. These ships make great fish reefs.
@ no it's been completing stripped of everything that can harm the wildlife as for the paint If I'm correct Tey do something about that
That's why it was sunk ....
This gives me a sinking feeling.
It has sharks on it already, and it's been down there a minute. What a reef
A much cooler fate than being cut up for scrap
Best ship sinking I’ve seen.

I went and saw this in person it was so cool but it took forever to sink it
Ok now bring it back up if you want to impress me

Reece Haire they punched holes in it.
Towed an ice berg down from the arctic and rammed her into it.

Small boat = no suction
Big boat (Titanic) = Suction
It's not suction it's the bubbles in the water reducing your buoyancy
