DAWN is also an excellent ant repellant. I've used it quite successfully in a house with animals I didn't want to expose to harsh chemicals or ant traps they might get into. Just applying the DAWN in areas they were getting in kept the ants away.

Dawn doesn't kill insects because it poisons them. Insects breathe through their skin. Dawn puts a film over the pores which seals them. The insects actually suffocate. That is why it is strong enough to kill spiders, too.

    • @tropicalco2339
      @tropicalco2339 5 років тому +18

The reason bugs are so prevalent because people kill the helpful bugs such as wasp, spiders, lacewing, etc. Just one of the 3 bugs listed could kill thousands of other unwanted bugs. Either way soap is better than toxic poison. Although the company who makes Dawn is toxic poison.

Dawn makes an ok bug spray but Wisk or Tide laundry detergent is better. I've been using this for about 25 years, and the way I make it up is I use a hand sprayer like you have there, preferably one that makes a solid stream, and I'll mix it as concentrated as possible, just so it shoots easily from the sprayer. This mix knocks wasps right out of the air, and if you shoot it into a nest it destroyes the nest. I just tried this one summer day back in 1995 when I had a problem with wasps and I was out of wasp spray. I've tried dish soap but I've found laundry detergent much more effective.

When I have greasy/oily hands from working on my truck I put a little in my hands and rub my hands together in a “dry wash”. By this I mean only enough to take a majority of the dirt and grime off since I have well and septic. I don’t want any grease or oil residue going into my septic system. I use a paper towel to wipe off the residue from my hand then I wash them. This keeps my septic from getting contaminants in it and killing the beneficial bacteria.

    I use Dawn a lot.
I mix tsp Dawn, 10 drops of spearmint essential oil, 10 drops of pepermint oil, 10 drop lavender oil.. Mix wirh 4 cups water. Spray around outside doors..windows. And inside heater vents. Spray in garage around walls. Spiders hate it...bugs hate it. If you have them coming in a particular area, add some to cotton balls..leave in those spots. Spray at least once a week during bug season.
Get rid of spiders. Great for RV campers too.
Have fleas on pet? Put dog in tub. As you are adding water, immediately
Take Dawn lather up in dawn in your hand with some water. Put all the way around dogs neck. On outside of dogs ears and outside of dogs butt.
Add some squirts to water. As you pour water from bath over dog, fleas run for cover to hide in dogs cavities.. Ears, eyes, nose, butt. They stay there till bath is over and then jump back out after bath is done. Using this method, fleas run right into dawn barrier you created around these areas..and die!!!!! I have watched this and it is crazy!!! A groomer told me about this.
    Last..
Clean pet urin on floors.. I use Dawn, Vinager and water.
I also use it in my shower..sparklung clean.

When I was in college I figured out it works well for laundry too. Just a little will do you. A little directly on stains works too. Maybe not as well as some stain removers but it works pretty well. It works particularly well on grease/oil stains.
It is a good, all around cleaner but really, any dish washing liquid works.
lol Just use very sparingly in a dishwasher. When I was a teen I filled the cup in the dishwasher and it really did create bubbles that covered the entire floor of the kitchen, just like on some old comedies. No exaggerating, there was a foot plus of bubbles covering the kitchen floor and the vent was blowing some up into the air. In my defense, it does say "dish washing liquid" on the bottle.
As a bonus, mom never asked me to wash the dishes again. :)

In this vein, laundry soap makes an excellent bug remover for your windshield. Dilute couple of tablespoons of liquid laundry soap into a spray bottle of water. Spray this mixture on your windshield before you put on fuel. Once you’re finished fueling, use the squeegee to clean your glass. Even stubborn, dried on bug will come right off.

Thank you for this video! I would like to add that if you work outside, I'm sure you know all about poison ivy, oak and sumac. I have learned that through avoidance, identification and wearing protective clothing are the best methods of not getting Dawn on your skin. Unfortunately, you come across situations where you just can't avoid it. Whether it be you are camping, playing with your pet or just happen to accidentally come across it, Dawn works wonders. All of the plants I mentioned have one thing in common and that is they all contain Urushiol Oil. Urushiol oil is what gets onto your skin that cause the rash. If you think that you hav come in contact with any plant that contains urushiol oil, make sure to take a warm shower and use plenty of Dawn to remove/strip the oil from your skin. Wash, rinse and repeat so that you get qll off of the oil off of your skin. Make sure to concentrate on washing the areas around your ankles, hands and forearms. I'm in my early 40's and I'm extremely allergic to poison ivy and the like. Knock on wood, by showering with Dawn, I haven't had an outbreak in over 15 years. Take care folks and I hope this helps you out! Peace

I've been using Dawn for years, to Break up the water retention in potting soils and regular old Top Soils. Most of the potting soils you buy, either have spagnum peat moss, Cocoa Coir or some type of pine bark mulch. A drop of Dawn in your watering can will break the surface tension allowing the water to penetrate the soil much quicker and evenly. Instead of running off or partially soaking your soil. Which can lead to unhealthy root system.
I'm definitely going to try the other uses of this amazing multi application detergent. Thanks for the tips!

If you ever need to induce vomiting in your dog, hydrogen peroxide is your answer. Don't over do it. It doesn't take much. Suggest doing it in the tub. Don't get it in the dog's eyes or nose. They will be nervous so be calm and kind yourself. And that will help pooch stay calm. It is the foaming that brings whatever back up out of doggie's system where it doesn't belong. Once it is out poochie should be back to normal quickly. Make sure to cuddle, love and praise so they know they are not being punished. Don't cry, speak loudly or yell. Be loving. The way you want doctors and nurses to be with you when you are the patient. Talk to your veterinarian before using this procedure. It may not be the proper course of action for your dog. But my vet suggested it for mine and it worked great. The two otc remedies I always take with me wherever my pups go is hydrogen peroxide (cleaning wounds and vomiting) and benadryl (calming and supressing allergic reactions to bug stings). I even had a vet tell me to immediately dose with benedryl once after a snake bite because they were concerned I was so far from the doggie ER. And although I was rushing dog to them, they were concerned I was too far away and might need the extra few minutes the benadryl might buy. Doggie was fine and lived a long healthy life afterwards. But if snake bites, get in the car and drive straightaway to the vet. Call the vet while you're already on your way. Snake venom works very quickly and you have no time to spare. Don't bother getting dressed nice or combing your hair. If snake bites your dog leave immediately!

One slight correction. Black widow spider is a “her” not him. Lol.
I’ve been using Dawn for years to fight fleas.
Recently here at the farm we had an outbreak of sand fleas. 14 of my barn cats died. My neighbor down the road lost five goats and two cows to fleas. All this in one week.
I mixed up Dawn and water in my 3 gallon sprayer and sprayed the entire barn twice a day to start. Now it’s once a week until freezing season. Kittens all got a flea bath with Dawn. Adult cats got flea powder, mainly because I like the skin on my hands.
    No more deaths.
Watch your pets gums. If they look to be turning white you have a problem. Should be pink. All white and you have a dead pet walking.
One of my cats needed a blood transfusion. That cost $800 plus three days stay at the vets. I’ve had him 14 years and was the alpha cat in the barn.
Because if the sudden outbreak of the fleas I haven’t been letting the barn cats out in the barnyard. I have so many cats because I rescue unwanted cats and find homes for most but the ones with lifelong medical needs or special needs have a home here.

They use to have a purple dawn dish wash it would kill fleas off from a dog easy But haven't been able to find that dawn for a couple years cant remember the name of that dawn. Tried the blue dawn that is shown here it may kill a few fleas but not all and that is for sure.

I remember one summer our back yard was infested with ticks, we used buckets of water with Dawn and just poured out the mixture onto the yard and the ticks were gone, it took about a week, but it worked.

Dawn is also used for fighting fogging in diving goggles. Just be really sure to wipe it carefully. You don't want that running into your eye.

Dawn is specifically used in auto detailing to remove wax from vehicles, that's what it does, so I would not recommend it for washing your car. It can also encapsulate poison ivy and poison oak oils and prevents the oils from spreading.

I use diluted dawn as a degreaser to clean the engines on my tractors, lawnmowers, dirty tools etc. I mix a tbsp to a quart of hot water, stronger if needed.

Just last week I used the Dawn antibacterial version on poison ivy. It worked fantastic. I just left it on there, it was sticky at first and I used latex gloves of course but it dried up in a couple of days. I used more Dawn, mixed with sugar and water to exfoliate the area (my chest)

I read "STFU" and clicked. I'm glad I did. Thank you very much for the grass killer solution mixer. I will try it on my backyard's payment area's near my spa.
