The phrase "it wasn't for you" pretty much just excuses any issues that the property might have and tells the person who is critiquing that your thoughts don't matter because they don't like the arguments lol it's such a close minded view that the so called "open minded" people have that's just my opinion tho.

    Good video man,
I feel like people are too caught up in their own bubble nowadays to realize that they are wasting their energy in defending stupid companies that just wanna exploit people or make a quick buck or both.

I think we can all agree that there’s no such thing as a piece of media that is going to be equally liked by all groups of people, by its nature media is viewed subjectively. Sure you could have thought the sonic movies were good but the intended audience of the movie wasn’t you and that’s ok. You keep adding ‘you can’t have an opinion ion on it’ when it’s actually closer to you can still have an opinion on whether a device or a piece of media is good it’ll just hold less weight than the opinion of the intended audience.
I’m also lost on how any of this applies to the new iPhone, if the new features aren’t good enough for you don’t get the phone, blaming Apple on people’s lack of self control is kinda wild.

Not buying it is exactly the right thing to do for any product. I don't want a maginally better experience I want the cutting edge experience. if what I have is only marginally worse than the cutting edge it's still the cutting edge. That's why I usually upgrade my PC parts every 4ish years I can't afford to buy the latest and greatest every year so as long as it meets my requirements its good enough for me. I'm even still holding out on my GTX1080 because there's nothing I play that needs more at the moment.

This phrase should only be used to refer to yourself
For an example I don’t really like The Last of Us but I still acknowledge that it’s a good game that a ton of people DO like, it just didn’t click with me
Which is why I say that it’s not for me
What I don’t do is use it to defend bad media simply because I like it
You’re allowed to just say “yeah but I still like it though”

Counter argument, if it's not made for me why should I buy it ?
Let your "target audience" make it profitable.
Don't blame people you didn't consider to be your market for your lack of commercial success.
Besides, "it's not made for you" just provides critics ammo.
If you target a niche, you can't blame the majority for not liking your product.
It wasn't made for them after all.

    • @LuckyStrikeTech

The funny thing is this won't change anyone's opinion. The people this video would try to convince won't watch it or will flat out disagree. Criticism of poor media is fine, but they don't see it that way because then they would need to take responsibility for a bad product. Instead if they blame the audience it justifies their actions, while turning them into some kind of "fighter against injustice". In their eyes it's a get out of jail free card

I think the "it isnt made for you" is an overused defense to be dismissive.
Thats said, I do think that some media is specifically made with target audiences and some of its themes may go over the heads of others.
An example I can think of is I Saw the TV Glow, which clearly is an allogy for the Trans experience. People who relate to that will get more out of the movie than people who don't.
I don't think that shields the movie from criticism. Every has the right to say their opinion. But a responsible critic should be open to understanding that there may be themes in certain media they may not be understanding because particular themes are very targeted.
That said, people defending that movie, or anythint else, shouldn't just say "It wasnt made for you. Your opinions are invalid." That isn't helpful either.
Unfortunately so many people these days are quick to shut down others with other optinions and not try and understand why people have different opinions or that other people's opinions and experiences with something are just as valid to them as they are to them.
People can have different opinions and needs on different things. People can like or not like something. People can prefer one phone over another. People too often get tribal about their choices and opinions though when they don't have to be.

i got a few problems with those ideas, don't know how to say.... first, a detail: i get a hard time why a bunch of adult nerds would care at all about a minecraft movie. i think the idea of taking that kind of nonsense endeavour seriously enough to review it sounds the definition of bad content. reviewing a nonsense endeavour like this doesn't make your review less nonsense. that being said, the idea that a minecraft movie doesn't suit for a bunch of adult nerds works pretty well. stuff like that could just be good for everybody, but, who the hell do you know who will legitimately enjoy pepa pig or some kid stuff like that? who will legitimately not think it is a complete annoyance? kids won't give a shit if it's a flop or not. it's hard to think about the argument "it's just for money" when we still judge a flop exactly by factors of sales success at the same time. what else are we going to do? review those weird ass plush thematic parks in the shopping mall and call it a flop too?
i guess my point is: if we are going to debate this, we should debate this culture of reviewing everything. everybody says that art taste is subjective, and yet we always have a very cohesive critic evaluations about what is a flop and what is not.
and, come on: "Stop Using 'It Wasn't Made for You' to Defend BAD Content!" isn't a weird statement? like, those people doesn't think it is bad content. those could be the few of the target audience those producers were succesful to hook. should we just dismiss them and give more credit to the cohesive majority over a subjective matter? shouldn't we give voice to those who likes the flops just to bring variety to internet content and opinions?
but anyway, it's not that i completely disagree with you. people defending apple products at all makes me sick lol.

The whole idea of making a product is to appeal to the masses. If you appeal to the niche market while spending up to 200mil then you will get a niche market audience, which won't see large returns. It is a business, not a feel good story.
Despite what you may believe, minecraft should be a film targeted to the largest demographic, as in everybody. The adult nerds are the ones who grew up playing minecraft. It is 15 years old now, so why wouldn't you make a product that satisfies them and children at the same time?

What art you like is subjective but the quality of art is entirely objective.

    • @pedrolizardo7704

i can't fathom the level of superficiality in the replies i just got. we could make an effort to see cultural endeavours as art instead of products. we could CHANGE the fundamentals of the industry into something more meaningful and diverse, yet we insist in reduct aesthetics into efficiency, rationality and market. if the next divine comedy won't sell, the work is deemed objectively a flop. after all, the next divine comedy won't appease everybody, since not everybody like poems.

The problem is, they don't want us to have any content that IS FOR US. They want it all to be for "them". And the content for them...I find revolting. I don't mind if they are honest about it, and make a game for them, but stop forcing ALL games to have content that turns the stomach of the other 99% of the people playing it.
I am sick of playing video games where I create a male straight character and get in a dialogue with another male and this happens:
My Character: Hello good sir does this path lead to the dragon?
Male NPC: Well it depends, what dragon do you seek?
    Dialogue options:
    A) The Green Dragon
    B) The Black Dragon
    C) The Red Dragon
    D) The Yellow Dragon
My Character: Uhhh.. "A" the green one I guess?
Male NPC: Ohhhhh wink wink*...I see let's go to my tent and massage each others prostates! Come with me!

Every single time I start to be warming up to Linus or LTT again, he says something absurd and I'm reminded that he's out of touch and doesn't really have the consumer in mind, or think like one.
"Why are we comparing it to the old one" "just keep it" - so why are they making a new one lmao?
Like, something not having value should be criticized. It's the POINT OF REVIEWS.
Imagine if every gpu maker just made worse parts, statistically factually worse, and review channels were like "eh, they just aren't for me, but nothing is wrong with that!"

I think his take saying that we don’t need it is a good one. But I agree with you that they should just not make it. Or wait long enough until the upgrades are substantial enough to make sense. But also Apple is not the only company to make incremental changes every year.
