Hmm, with the D11 it is like if the music is liberated, and not prisoner of a box.
I guess the passive radiator sgrt of short-circuit the inner resonances, and give this
natural spatial sound. Among the bookshelf speakers, the D11 is an exception, and a joy
    to listen to.

Spot-on review, I have owned D11s for about three years, and they provide exceptional sound quality, better than most floor-standing speakers. I am planning to upgrade to Bowers and Wilkins 702 S3s and move the Def Techs as my surround speakers until I recover from the cost of paying $6k for the B & Ws and can match them with their own brand surround units. They are currently powered by an NAD T778, which I plan to upgrade as well, likely to a Denon flagship unit to push the upgraded speakers. I am looking at both the Denon A1H and X8500HA. Which one do you recommend, or is there another AV receiver that trumps those choices?

Thank you for watching! I definitely agree. They do sound crisp and at the price point of $500 i paid for the pair at the time, they were worth it. Even without the SVS sub i have them paired with, they sound really good solo for music listening as long as it is not bass heavy music. B & W speakers sound nice and wow they are quite expensive but i am sure they will sound fantastic. Typically you want to make sure your speakers are timbre matched but you may be ok having the Def Techs as surrounds since surrounds do not do a whole lot of heavy lifting for the surround mix. Me personally, i am using a Marantz NR 1510 slimline 5.2 receiver which does enough to power the speakers. However, if i were you, i would buy a dedicated amp for the towers so that they are getting enough and clean power instead of trying to power them via the receiver. You can buy a decent receiver that has pre outs and use an external amp like ones made by Emotiva to power the LCR channels and then let the receiver power the rest of the surround speakers you have.

I use those for my surrounds. They work great. I use the d17s and d5c center for my fronts and use d7 for the surround backs. Def tech demand series is awesome. Way better than the bp series which I swapped out.

Thank you for watching! I could not agree more. These speakers are amazing and the clarity can not be beat especially for music. I have it paired up with a Marantz NR 1510 Receiver and it is a perfect match. I think the D11s could possibly benefit from having a dedicated amp using the Marantz pre outs so that it is not starving for power, but for my purpose i am very well pleased.
I too swapped out the BP 9020s for the D11s and while the BP towers are good value for the money and sounded phenomenal, i prefer the D11s. For the lows, i have it paired up with SVS Micro 3000 sub which is small/compact but definitely makes its presence be known on those low ends. You are lucky with the D17s. From the reviews i have seen, they appear to be amazing speakers and you do not have to sit and worry about an internal amp going bad... lol.

Hey Brian since you own both the D7 and D11's , I'm curious what you would suggest for somone just running 5.1 in a living room/great room. Are D7's good enough or lean D'11's for surrounds.
