00:00 What is this plugin?
02:00 How you would process a female vocal with Silk Vocal
05:51 Male voice
06:57 Latency + CPU Usage
07:19 Differences in sound of the filters
08:27 Mono Stereo
09:08 Why not use it on…..drums? - Наука та технологія
When there's so much smart features in a very tailored made plugin - what are the alternatives?
Another well-done and valuable video! You always seem to knock it out of the park. Thanks!
Many thanks Mike! Your comment means a lot.
Thank you. Very in-depth review. I like the DnB demo track, "Free".
Thanks! You can get it on Vocalfy.com ;-)
I always watch your new plug in videos first, before anybody else’s.
Many thanks! I even watch them before they are uploaded;-)
I decided to put it to the test. At first glance, I was not impressed. Their Clarity VX astounded me much more year ago. However, on the next touch, I revealed additional controls at the bottom! I improved the results by tinkering with them.
Nice review, waiting for my free copy. unrelated question , i'm looking for new wide screen instead of 2 separate screen i have now, what model of screen you got ,looks like 2 screen wide, and can it also perform and function as 2 screens if needed ?
Not this particular screen. It’s an oldie. But the change from 2 screens to 1 has been ergonomically much better. A proper 4K screen will give you more than enough space to work with. I for instance never have the mixer and project window open at the same time.
so, off topic, have you tried the new plugins in cubase 13? I completely missed the release and just noticed it was available when i launched my cubase 12 haha. Tried to go throu your channel a bit but couldnt find any related video i think?
Yeah I didnt do a Cubase 13 video. Haven't really found time to dive into it and didnt check out any plugins in 13. Have some projects I have to finish which I did in 12 and I'm not switching versions during any project ;-)
I have the silk vocal but Went onto waves to purchase the silk vocal live, it’s nit there??
After testing various voiceovers. Silky fails when the low end in a voiceover is overly exposed. The HP filter is nearly useless: there is virtually no way to tame anything below usable voice bass. The trick is to use the female mode for a male voice, or even better, use another HP filter before the plugin and then treat the filtered voice with Silky's processing subtelly.
The mono & stereo version I suspect could be solved by a switch inside a single plugin, but they are maybe scared that would be less obvious? Technically the host should provide the channel count to the plugin but they don't always do this correctly, so devs need to work around it with solutions like this since it is considered undeterminable.
My hunch is, and that pure speculation, that it has something to do with how the waves plugin architecture works. Maybe there’s an issue with their waveshell wrappers which prevent that.
I mean if most developers have found workarounds, then waves should be able to do that as well
@@whitenoisestudioI agree.
Remember they are committed to maintaining their tools in a way that they work consistently across any and all platforms. This unfortunately means sticking to that mono-stereo distinction because of how older DAWs were designed (cough - SoundTools, now ProTools). I think the only way it can occur is if they reform their waveshells to look for the DAW being used.
Relatedly, I would love it so that I can select what plug-in format to use. In general, I install VST3 only (and stand-alone when asked) and I have no need for VST or AAX. It's a way to save clutter and space.
They *never* sent the download link, while having requested it on time.
So I had to sit on the experience.
I would contact their support. They’re usually extremely helpful.
Waves gets a lot of noise and hate, because the internet, but this was a legitimately useful and unique problem solver for me. And free? Get outta here!
I think you sum it up perfectly.
Most likely we will see a full version come Monday that will be more all-purpose.
Did you watch until the end?
@@whitenoisestudioConsider this my edit. I still stand by my comment 😁
Hahaha. Well I hope you’re wrong otherwise I need to create a “waves lied to me” video ;-)
@@whitenoisestudio Looks like you were correct and you are spared additional work 😉.
But you also can’t blame me for thinking that because 1) precedent and 2) it does look like a smaller component of a larger idea. And yes, I think this could be expanded into something bigger down the road =]
@DerekPower yes fortunately! If it wasn’t true I would have had a serious trust issue. And I’m confident waves will do a pro version or whatever it will be called later. I think they looked at past years with the cyber Monday release and maybe the Israel situation made them decide not to release something today.
im putting it on s steel string guitar
How does it sound?
9:32 So this is how female drums sound like😆
I dig it ;-)
Can we get the song you're mixing from somewhere?
It's this one: vocalfy.com/vocal/im-free
It sounds like the female vocal gets weaker when you turn on the plugin.
You think? For me it really sounds smoother, that prominent midrange has been reduced in a nice way which creates, for me, a better blend. I did not compensate for volume.
@@whitenoisestudio That could be it. I'm hearing weaker vocals in some videos, and stronger in others. One guy is using the compressor, and maybe the makeup gain isn't evenly matched. Some of these tutorials make the plugin sound amazing! I'm still not sure if I like taking too much out of the mids. When people hit the 'delta' button, I think I hear too much being taken out. I want to be careful with this plugin. I think it'll take time for me to be a pro with this, just like most things. The more you practice, the better you get.
I think that's the best approach. Yeah its hard to judge some before after, especially when gain isnt matched. one tends to prefer a louder version without it actually sounding better and vice versa.
wow! perfect execution of a sponsor ad!
thanks for noticing!
Er, is it just me that wants to know what that track is?
You're the second ;-) I got it from here: vocalfy.com/vocal/im-free
Waves is BASED for having two options in the voice type menu 👍
LOLOL!
plugin looks cool if its not overdone...people do much with these tools due to lack of experience or knowledge
Spot on. Always use with care.
"Free" Waves Plugin :D Just until they charge you for the great Waves Update Plan.
I keep reading this every year.
I got one of the free plugins like 3 or 4 years ago and it still works and they never wanted me to pay anything.
I don't particularly like waves, especially not after their subscription thing a few months back. But I don't have any negative experiences with their free plugins not being free.
I was skeptical of Waves because of their upgrade plan. Then I bought one and never had to update them. They rarely update their plugins to add new features anyway. All my Waves plugin still work perfectly to this day.
Yep
This is getting old.
Bro they give you the registration key so like you get to keep it 😅 wrap your head around it
EQ, Compressor, Gate ,and Filter with fixed curve......Sounds like another channel strip great demonstration though
That eq isnt a standard eq though and I wont call this a channel strip. More of a mix fixer before doing anything else.
Soothe 2 sounds better, I like interface better too. I acts more like one single control.
