Pretty cool! It always amazes me how these things turn out. (No pun intended) I've got to get more lathe time soon.

+Shannon FargoThanks Shannon. I definitely need more lathe time too. I got the pens and duck calls down, but the bigger stuff I need more practice with.

Very nice turning. Love the pearlescent green. Did you indeed finish it with spray lacquer?

Do you know why so many people say a spindle roughing gouge shouldn't be used for turning a bowl? Because it's dangerous! If you get a catch in the end grain, the thin shank of the spindle roughing gouge may bend or snap. The tool could be forced between the blank and the toolrest, levering the blank out of the chuck. Or, if the tang snaps, the tool could be thrown at you. (In contrast, if you get a catch while spindle turning, the side grain of your blank will tear out -- taking a chunk out of your blank, but not endangering you.) Then, to top it off, you pull your floppy sleeves down over your hands to protect them from chips. If your sleeve had gotten caught in the spinning lathe, several bones in your hand, wrist, and arm may have been broken before you were able to turn off the lathe. Learn how to direct the chips away from your hands or put on a pair of tight fitting leather gloves.
If you want to use unsafe turning practices in the privacy of your own shop, that's your business. But, have the decency not to advertise them on UA-cam! Many new turners are joining hobby every day. Lots of them are learning how to turn by watching videos on UA-cam. Don't make their learning process more dangerous than it needs to be. Please?

David Walser I said in the video it wasn’t safe what I did with my shirt and that if you don’t feel comfortable doing it, don’t do it. I’m responsible for my safety. I don’t police the new turners. Their safety is up to them, just like everyone else. There’s info everywhere about turning. I’m simply showing what I do in my shop. Feel free to do with it what you will.
      Thanks for watching
