I was a two year old on my neighbours shoulders on the grass bank 12:10 I remember the ship was so big I didn't understand whether it or the land was moving,.And huge piles of massive chains attached to the ship were thrown into the air with the loudest noise I ever heard before or since My father Harry worked as a fitter building the ship.
I sailed on her a couple of times as an engineer, and was on board when we took her to scrap in Taiwan. Always a happy ship, if hard work to keep running
Wow! I went up to see that from Darlington with my father! Amazing all those years ago! I believe Esso had lots of issues with that ship! Esso Hibernia and later Texaco same with the Westminster!
Fond memories of the esso Northumbria me and my brother seen her sailing down the Tyne I was only 9 he was 17 we got the bus from gateshead to see her off it was massive it was a great day out my name is Peter and my brother is Colin
From 5.44 there is a tunnel under the railway bridge that seems to be screened off with a white canvas structure. Is this the entrance to Carville Station?
I remember we all went down with the school and lined south shield pier,i believe it was one of the worlds biggest ships at the time,it seemed you coukd almist touch it by the lighthouse
Wow! Great footage! Is it possible for me to use and share this footage on my youtube page? I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit will be given to the owner of the footage. Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards. Cheers.
