Little did they know...talking about Chellsie back then at the age of 17 that 15 years later she would be working on a comeback, doing Arabian pikes on the beam and an Amanar this week at age 32. She's incredible.
Though the comeback ultimately ended because she came to realize that her body wasn’t as in tune to the relentless pace of training as it was when she was younger, it still demonstrated that it’s never too late to get back into it- if you have the right drive and mentality. She is truly a legend and a leader who will help guide USA gymnastics into the future- the CORRECT WAY.
It's crazy how much the difficulty increased in a few years. In 2005 1,5 Yurchenko was maybe not extremely difficult, but acceptable at this level and now DTY is easy and most top American girls are doing 2,5!
Yes! She most definitely was. I used to compete against her as a level 10 and even then I was always in awe of what a talent she was. Love her! And R.I.P. Tim Rand! He did so much for the sport!
Interesting that this nationals featured 3 of the 6 gymnasts on the 2008 Olympic team. Crazy when you realize that in Athens only Mohini Bhardwaj competed in the 2001 Senior Nationals and none of the gymnasts on the 2012 Olympic team competed in the 2009 Nationals.
@@Kayyleeeeeeshe likely would have if she’d performed more consistently in 2008. Inconsistency and the fact that others had far surpassed her in difficulty by then made it very unlikely unfortunately. She’d have had the best chance by representing Germany- but I definitely respect her for saying “I am AMERICAN.”
@@saragrant9749even if she was consistent, I still don't think they would have put her on the team considering marta was in charge at the time and didn't have any interest in her. It's sad since she was so talented but was severely overlooked 😔
There is no doubt that Nastia is very artistic but she was very overscored on floor - not only did she only do a 2 and a half first past, but her second and third passes didn't get all the way around and should have been downgraded. So unfair on Chellsie.
I agree Nastia was overscored on floor, but during this time the judges weren't as strict about downgrading twist as they are nowadays. I recall there being a lot of very sketchy triple twists in particular around the 2001-2004 quad and continuing into 2005, that were never downgraded, so it was consistent with what they were doing at the time, but I don't think it was fair in an absolute sense -- the front 2.5 was definitely not fully around and the triple was closer but still not quite there.
NASTIA!!!!! WHY? Nastia turned that beautiful 3 1/2 twisting on floor and downgraded it to a 2 1/2 twisting! Poor Nastia, that previous performance on beam really caught her offguard, we're just lucky it wasnt an extreme ankle biter. That dismount was disastrous.
Annika Fabbi You can see her do a quad twist, which she didn't quite get all the way around at a WOGA meet when she was a junior. I'll see if I can find it.
Nastia's floor music did not suit her. Kinda of distracting. Also, I guess this is when NBC started to only show 3 or gymnast per rotation and film them sitting down or putting in their bar grips instead of filming other athletes.

That's what I think. I've LOVED following her Adult Gymnastics Journey.

Nastia just floats on the bars. I forgot how much I loved her
Sarah McClure yes
Seriously great beam set by Chellsie. That Arabian was perfect
Jana Bieger is amazing!

i could watch chellsie’s bars set on repeat omg
Jana Bieger was so underscored though out her career such a shame

Didn't Aly Raisman compete there, though?
There being at this competition in 2005? No she was 11 years old at the time and didn't make her nationals debut until Junior Nationals in 2009.
+ajlove2013 I think she became a senior in 2010
And jana beiger was an alternate
2001 field was weak.
Jana’s beam was so amazing! She should have done beam in 2008 and should have made the team.
Seeing Chellsie and Andy here is awesome. Especially what she (and he as her coach) are trying to do (which I think WILL happen).
It's been so long since I've seen Alicia do bars lol
Nastia is such a beautiful gymnast
No better toe point than Nastias
Nastia's dismount on beam scared me half to death
I love the intros of competitions like this
SAME !!
Same I wish they would bring them back
Wow Jana did amazing on beam.
Did they really just show 4 gymnasts lol?
They usually go based on the scoreboard. The top 4-5 are the ones they show. No one cares who’s fighting for 23rd place. 😂
Being a UCLA gymnastics fan, I found a post of Kristina Comforte’s day 2 routines from this meet🙂
@@busymom8007 I know but 4 is lower than normal for these broadcasts 🤷🏽♀️
In the fluff with Nastia running in the WOGA shirt I spotted Becca Bross
Same
Yep she trained at WOGA as well.
4:18 i’m shocked they didn’t notice she landed that with ONE hand and connected immediately after! 😱
Jana had such great talent and the commentators already dismiss her - the talent will come from the junior ranks - Jana is there.
I wish she made the 2008 Olympic team

Her dance elements....
I see Valeri with Nastia and I remember him in 2000 with Vanessa.
Nastia your awesome

Did Nastia Liukin ever compete her quad twist? If so, when?

She competed it at 2005 US Classic, but it didn't go well.
Why are they only showing 4 gymnasts?
I loved Jane on beam
Because the four girls they showed were the olympic hopefuls
Why doesn’t anyone in the us have bars like this anymore 😭
Chellsie memmel : 👀2021??
Chellsie Memmel 3rd place on vault
did bieger actually get that move named after her?
wimbyfan13 yes, she did.
I really liked Jane gymnastics it's a shame s my e didnt make that Olympic team
Lol that floor score for Nastia. That routine was out of a 9.8
Alicia had a wonderful floor routine.
Rebbeca Bross is there!!!! 25:00
Me 30 seconds in...”oh this commentary isn’t going to age well...”
Rebecca bross in the background at 25:01
AS EARLY AS 2005 SACRAMONE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED FOR BEIJING!!!
She has zero consistency

ugh nastia was overscored
ehhh
Anyone else think if you squint a little, Carly Patterson and Jordan Wieber could be sisters?
I like Jana, but her floor form left a lot to be desired here.
Jana deserved a higher score.
