Dude (sorry I call everyone dude)! I've been listening for about the same. I loved these guys on The Sing Off and have followed them since. They are literally my favourite acapella group ever! I love Pentatonix too and they were on The Sing Off too and won. But these guys, I can't stop listening!

The guys were under a gag order for a year during which they could not mention their contract with Ubisoft.

They always sound like more than 5 people to me. The way they layer their voices they sound like a 30 person choir!
From what I understand, the Sea Shanty Medley they did during lockdown got the attention of Ubisoft, who contacted them. The medley was Chance's baby in the first place, and he really outdid the pirates themselves with this one. Yo Ho!!!! Don't blow out your eardrums with those headphones! Even without any at all, those bass notes still rumble my table. Love your reaction!
If you go back and watch the beginning of the live version, you'll see Adam singing overtones to make that cool intro sound overtop the double basses!! SO cool!! 😳🤯🔥💯🎶❤🏴☠️
Yes, Ubisoft saw "Sea Shanty Medley" and commissioned them to write/perform the new game shanty. The guys have been sitting on this secret for over a year!👍
Tim and Chance both found another octave down for this! The whole of vocals, lyrics, scenery and all is just overwhelming!!! I remember ny first exposure, real chills! Chance just put himself in a whole new place in the industry!!!

Did you notice Adam singing bass with Tim and Chance at the beginning? I'm glad you saw Adam saying the "skull and bones". There was a huge argument about that on another reactor's channel. Chance wrote this and I don't know for sure but someone said it is on the video game.
My adult kids know that I'm addicted to Tim's rumbles. They gave me a set just like those for Christmas. I can't handle them with the slider all the way up. Only about half way up.
Whole family had fun playing with them at family Christmas gathering. 😝👍🏼☺

Thanks for the double feature. I really like seeing this live version as it shows who is doing what parts. Tim & Chance are doing the really low notes in the beginning. Chance has his guitar & Austin is playing a mandolin. Adam is holding down the percussion sounds. And Austin & Rob are adding a fuller sound with their harmonies. Wish it was the longer version of the song. These guys are so supportive of each other's talents & projects.

It sounds to me that Rob has been schooling Austin on those round opera tones. Austin seems to have more of a richness to his timbre than I've heard him produce before. Just adds more to the awesomeness that is Home Free.
It's pretty insulting to think that if Austin had a little "schooling" , not from a vocal coach but from an unqualified bandmate, he would suddenly sound different. You're talking about a highly trained, highly experienced artist who is perfectly capable of making his voice sound different. People have got to get rid of this crazy idea that the difference between Rob's and Austin's voices is "schooling." It isn't. It's the basic architecture of the throat. Jeez. It's even more insulting to imply, as you do, that usually Austin isn't good enough. Just imagine that "awesomeness" without what is agreed by qualified reactors to be one of the best voices in the world.
I heard that Austin worked on his lower registers during quarantine. You can also hear his lower register in Playing With Fire✌️

The sea shanty medley went viral on You Tube. Ubisoft heard it and contacted Home Free and asked them to write a song for their game. Chance loved sea shanties so he wrote the song.
Chance wrote this for an upcoming pirate game. It makes me want to play it when it comes out.

This is so very cool! A totally different sound but again so great. I would like Chance to write more often for Home Free. Home Free can just sing anything.
Chance with his perfect low voice for this, Tim's slightly lower voice that goes so well with Chance's.
Adam who also contributes to the bass, but also shows the undisputed beatboxer / vocal percussionist / vocal artist.
Austin who also plays a musical part but then gets into it vocally with his powerful voice.
Then Rob who clearly shows his rich opera voice here. And then that harmony that sounds so good and so beautiful.
Tim & Chance were great, but the icing was Opera Rob!!
You're going to get people saying Adam Rupp is also singing bass at the beginning. He isn't. He's using overtone singing to create that polyphonic (more than one note) drone sound. He explained this is in the live chat during the premiere.
Also, the Ubisoft camera operator focused on him beatboxing during the first "skull and bones!" chant, and so a lot of people think he's singing there. But if you look at his throat / neck muscles, it's obvious he's still beatboxing. Also, the voice is Rob's lower "opera Rob" voice and Rob can be seen singing it later in the live video. So despite everyone hoping they'd actually gotten to catch Adam singing on camera, it's Rob.

I'm sure this was answered already, but there is a backing track. Chance wrote it for the new video game Skull and Bones. This was being performed for the execs, I think.
The way Tim and Austin watch Chance with such pride and pleasure on their faces gets me every time! They are all so supportive of each other. Chance has outdone himself this time, and the group did a wonderful job of bringing his vision to life.

I have those headphones, and if you like bass, these are for you. You are not exaggerating. And the background voice saying "skull & bones", I'm almost positive that it's Rob not Adam doing that. It sounds 100% like Rob to me.
It is Rob. People think it's Adam because on the live version, the Ubisoft camera operator focused on him beatboxing the first time the phrase occurs. The beat and words are the same rhythm, but one look at his neck muscles will show you he's beatboxing and not singing (not to mention that it's, ya know, Rob's voice for anyone who uses their ears and not their eyeballs to hear). Rob can be seen later in the live version singing the phrase, but it's a wide shot so people have ignored it because they're already invested in it being Adam.
I thought it was Rob too.

Chance is really into Sea Shanties. When Chance brought it up, the guys were not excited, but said - make a demo and show us what you’re thinking of - and he did, and they did. So, Sea Shanty’s are right up Chance’s alley.

Saw some vids of gamers watching the summerfest and every one of them stopped dead once they heard the double bass vocals. 😊 ok, so the game goes into closed beta testing next month. And the guys say they intend to release a regular video for this song sometime this fall. So, depending on how the beta testing goes, the video may be released in conjunction with a game announcement. Either the release of the game or (and more likely) the announcement of the release date of the game along with ads for the game. And the guys have said they will be singing this in some live shows...😮😮 I also believe the regular video has already been filmed. Just a gut feeling on my part.

According to Adam during the live chat at the premiere, he's using overtone singing to produce at least two notes at once (I can pick out two, but I think there may be more) to simulate that high drone sound you're hearing at the beginning.
