    Wise words! It took me a few years to work out that the boring logic and utility modules were a wonderful source of the kind of fun and creativity that makes modular so special.
    I know it’s not cool to have rules for something so free-form, but I think if someone would have suggested to me many years ago that a good case should have 40% modulators, logic and utilities as a ball park, I would have found that very helpful.

      Thanks. Thats a really great way to look at it actually. Especially when talking to people who are new to the format, putting a figure on it’s a great idea. Cheers again.

    pausing before you get into it, so I can comment well done with all the work you've been putting in with the visual side of things. I dig it. Now back to the show.

    Everyone’s (modular) instrument is unique, and it follows that the answers to the questions posed by your instrument will also be unique, and personal to you. However, as another wise man once said “cv can do three things: it can go up, go down, or stay the same”. The trick is to make it do the first two things far more often than the last…

      Haha though true, the same could be said for Midi. The factor that separates the two, is the manner in which it moves those places!

      @NakatoshiSamoto Місяць тому

      @@Mavenfictionnot entirely true, as most digital plugins you’d control with midi have built in slew for midi changes so they don’t move in steps, but in curves. You can only arrive at 128 destinations tho

    From my point of view voices can now be obtained by desk top units. However I have just a few cheaper VCO in the case. Then it's LFOs which I have Pamela's and a few others. Mixers. Need them. Including a Matrix Mixer, VCA many, Sequencer, and then most importantly effects. Definitely need effects. Effects are the glue and fairy dust for modular. And I use eurorack in case effects and out board effects.
    It's a fantastic world for me. Love it.

    • @Mavenfiction
      @Mavenfiction  10 місяців тому

      Yeah I especially love granular effects in the modular. I think it’s great to pair them with loads of modulation. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

    Good, common sense comments 👍 There's a weird trend of packing so much functionality into small modules that it rivals advanced keyboards or desktop synthesizers, but at what cost?
    Of course, at the cost of user interface and often reduced flexibility. It's a wrong idea, in my opinion. That's not what modular synthesis should be about. It should be about fun of turning simple elements into complex setups. More complex modules have their place, but without going too far into complexity and leaving the fun behind.

    I am drawn by modular but not sure why, perhaps because of the many knobs for hands-on control. Anyways, this talk was entertaining and educational and I subscribed to learn more from you.

      Well that and where to best invest. But mainly though, that Modular has increased the amount of knob jokes I make by around 85%. I didn’t really know if that was an applicable lesson for others though?

    With all these "possibilities" available to create your own musical "personality", how many have actually done so? Maybe a handful out of billions? Just trying to put some perspective on the issue when folks try to make these electronic "tools" out to be Personality Generators!🙃😉😎
