Also food at street vendors tastes better because they use the same oil all day .. the oil is neutral and so it absorbs the flavour and it multiplies with each use .. but yea it’s super unhealthy.. tastes better agreed .. we stick to once a year but we r pretty immune 😂

I have always loved your content and have been following you for a while before, respectfully this was not cool… this video sounded like a comparison of America and India with all negatives about India…. Not forming queues, traffic issues, honking etc… is all you could notice ?? Really ?? I’ve been to the US plenty for work and all of this u said is used to bash Indians at work! It’s said over and over and over till you’re pissed off and leave! And it happened with me !! These exact same things in addition to - oh the cars are so small there, the pollution is so bad there … I did not know humans cannot live without watching a blue sky :) yes I was told all of these things at work and they all come from social media. I would request atleast you who are the kind and responsible ones to atleast not be a part of that!…. And if you want a real take from someone who’s a modern Indian who actually lived in the US now…on the contrary America is a horrible place to live - no common digitised payment system, long ass delivery times, pathetic services in general unless you pay a fortune in tips, almost non existent public transportation, food delivery orders mess up like 80% of the times and not to mention why does the whole freaking country shuts down at 9 pm except New York lol! I’ll tell ya - Gun culture that’s why! And don’t even get me started on the toxic tipping culture! Also it’s not as clean as they show it to be in movies! Quite the contrary really. And lastly, they kept asking me “how do you know so much about the US, we don’t know anything about India” like is this something to be proud of ? … it’s all borderline racist to compare a developing and developed nation!

Bharatiye/Indian cow milk has A2 protein. Western/US cow milk has A1 protein that inflames and gives us milk intolerance. A2 protein milk is what our stomach are made for. Look for A2 milk on the shelf nowadays. Free advice to trid- Mrs. Patous Melwani Mcgore😢

I feel that way being a Mexican (born and raised in the USA) who doesn’t speak Spanish. I feel judge by other Mexicans when I don’t speak the language. I do understand some times and know words and typical phrases but to hold a conversation I can’t do it. However, I am changing that for my daughter and we put her in a dual language program at her school where she will learn to read write and speak Spanish and I know this will be a positive for her in the future and the ability to learn other languages easily. Love y’all’s pod cast. Thanks for the laughs.

Meditation tip you asked for (an indian from india's routine): i light a lamp on a small table in my room after i bathe, and get ready for the day, fold my hands for 5 minutes, it burns till the oil goes out while i go about my day (kind of like the experience you had in the hospital). Sometimes i sing a prayer while getting ready, putting on makeup (any prayer that comes to mind)[singing is a great way to meditate, and hymns are vvery good from mental relaxation point of view]
If we pass any temple or religious placd, we just respectfully bow our heads and fold our hands. You dont nessasarily have to do something, just little rituals end up becoming meditation techniques. Meditation is tough for a beginner to pursue when done consciously, so just do little rituals in a day.

I live in England and it's like when I'm here I'm not English enough and when I go back to India I'm not Indian enough so it almost feels like a mixed race struggle but hearing Trid's perspective was really interesting, that's such an optimistic way to think about it, I'm gonna hopefully try and implement that. the God of Christianity is the true God. A relationship with the Mighty One True Living God allows one not to sin anymore...cursing, crass jokes, self absorbed....Just read Book of John in Bible to accept Jesus Christ as the Son of GOd. He is the ONLY one that rose from the dead. Read Case for Christ. God is not ANOTHER GOD among the millions. He is the ONLY one. No one comes to the Father in heaven except by accepting all that is true in the Bible about Jesus. Read it. Accept it like a child. The Holy Spirit is real.

I wake up in the morning and give thanks to the father then I read the words and ask him to guide me and give me what I need throughout the day and then at night before I gts I do the same but I pray more intensely I tell Him about my day and about questions i have and what troubles me and he hears me and consoles me.

I love the idea that we are all kind of in the same boat. My great grandfather and other ancestors came from Hungary and my parents and I were born in America. You feel a bit lost and don't know where you belong. People tend to assume that if you are white, you have some culture here but a lot of us don't. I think America has become a mixing pot of many different cultures blending together, or at least that is the America I choose to believe in and strive for ❤

Everyone in India cannot be in a relaxed state because as a country we are very fast paced. Also having said that, yes, you cannot cut people in lines. But from an indian pov, it looks like- oh she isn't local, alot of time will be spent in explaining the language to vendor, then paying cash, getting the change back. Vs for indians, its a regualr thing, you go, order and scan and pay. You are out in less than 3 mins. Also, we have digiyatra for people whowant to skip long queuesand enter directly through face scan. Its a brilliant technology that idt anywhere in the world is followed.

I arrived in Mumbai two days ago, and it is because of this episode that I am having a great time. First, I love the explanation of the honking. As a result of Trid’s comments, it is a musical symphony, not a loud noise. Thank you! Second, I had a Sheena Mall moment. Since I am traveling on business, when I see people not in their family photos, I often offer to take them for them. Well, I did that, and one person then wanted a picture of me, which led to a random family asking for a photo with me as well. It was the same conversation in the Mall - they assumed I was famous. I smiled and thought about your experience. Thanks for the honest and vulnerable conversations. It is excellent to know how much all married couples with families have in common.

Sheena, I was relating to what you were saying about feeling caught up in 2 worlds and sometimes not enough in either world. I am biracial Ethiopian and Chinese, born in Japan, grew up in China, and have lived in Canada since I was 8. Even though I speak Mandarin fluently, I don't look chinese. In such a racialized world, looking the part sometimes gets you so far, and that in itself can be invalidating for me. So, yeah, sometimes I also feel not Chinese/Ethiopian/"Canadian" enough and constantly trying to figure how to fit into this world.

Milk in America or any non Indian country for that matter has majorly A1 casein protein in it and also the cows and buffaloes in those countries are injected with steroids making the milk estrogen abundent causing inflammation in the stomach lining and A1 casein Protein is the main cause for inflammation and prolonged interaction with this could lead to colon cancer.
But in India there is a whole different league of milk quality as still today the packaged milk also has 80% A2 casein as the cattle here is not cross bread and there are pure A2 breed cows in India which are known for their quality all across the world

Devotion to the beauty and majesty of Life doesnt have to have a personality. We are connected to the greatness of the Universe through our Life and our living and all the living things around us. Everything is energy and it is beautiful and ever moving and ever eternal and endless with no beginning and no ending even though these miraculous human lives seem to end and we live in a reality that is ever changing and coming into being and going away from that being. I find happiness in seeking Oneness with all that and try to have no discord with anything. Meditation is such a great past time to help find and increase Peace within ourselves and the world around us. A flower that no one ever sees is still a flower and every moment of peace we feel is still peace existing in the universe though nothing else may feel it with us. All we can do is try and keep trying and be and share all we can with the time given us. I had two new hips installed in Bangalore. I was there 24 days in 2008. It was wonderful to meet those people and see those streets and hustle and bustle and the blend of new and old. Bless India for its magic and energy and life.

The number of Lactose intolerant Americans is high and getting higher. Sheena is right, the US requires all cow milk to be pasteurized. The pasteurization kills the bad, but also the good bacteria. Recently, I have been seeing raw milk cheese in the grocery stores and maybe the laws are less strict now. I’ve been retired for a number of years and I’m not sure of current laws.
I have a BS in Agriculture and my MLS degree (medical laboratory science). My main focus was human health and how our food management affects our health.
I could go into depth about raw milk vs pasteurized milk, but I won’t here. I do want to give you a little “food for thought”(pun intended). 1) Humans are the only species who consume dairy after infancy. And 2) for those vegetarians who consume dairy, (eats dairy ie cheese, yogurt, sour cream etc.) and you don’t eat meat, because of the cruel practices of production, I encourage you to learn how we produce diary products. I think most people, who are against cruel meat production, will discover the diary industry to be one of the cruelest means of food production.
I’m not passing judgement on anyone’s dietary preference or restrictions, but I do encourage learning the how and why of the food we eat.
    Hope I didn’t offend anyone.

I'm fully Indian, born and raised here and I can't can only communicate in English😂, so don't worry, you're good. So yeah, I get what you mean by feeling like you'd fit in a tad bit better knowing the language but I can also enjoy just the same only being fluent in English

Hi TRID, I am 27 years old and have been meditating off and on for last 15 years. I can personally atest it makes a huge difference and has helped me through some tough times. One really good reasource is the guided meditations by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (Art of Living). They are available for free on UA-cam. Just put it on close your eyes and follow instructions. And that's it... just 10-15 mins makes a world of difference. PS: Really enjoyed your podcast! Cheers

The difference in the dairy is in the type of cows, I think US has a1 protein milk and India has a2 protein milk. A lot of people who go from India to US suddenly can't digest the milk because of the different protein.

    42:45 The Indian food breakdown
-Vegetables & dairy in India are straight from the farms, without factory processing or preservatives. Eat only if you have prior experience. It also affects us, for example we city dwellers who drink milk of city cows can't drink milk of village cows. It's much purer and we need to build up to it.
-Street food is a no no until you build up to it. The difference is in the spices. Small restaurants & storefronts use factory-processed spices with preservatives & additives. Street vendors usually use hand-ground spices & masalas with no processing, additives or preservatives. It takes time to get accustomed to pure spices too.
-Packaged food items are fine but they may be too fatty or unhealthy, so better to keep track of them and not consume too much. Also, look for an FSSAI stamp on all packed foods before buying. It is the Indian Food Safety Standards marking.
-Tap water in India is not purified. It is the responsibility of the owner of the establisment to purify water, be it homes or commercial spaces. Last mile purification guarantees purity. So, ask your host for better guidance on which taps dispense pure water. If in doubt, just buy a bottle.
-Go easy on super spicy food.
On the part about being lost somewhere between being Indian & being Canadian, I can answer for the Indian side of it. A lot of us feel the same when we move to other states within India where languages & cultures are different from ours. It is very common and people just get along. If anything, it's a new identity. For example- I am full 100% Odia but my best friend is a Malayali guy from Kerala who was brought up in Punjab, completely opposite cultures & hence an interesting combination.

They can tell a foreigner from a mile away, when I went last time to buy some thing my uncle was like just don’t talk 😅 I was born in Bombay and grew up in Canada but still they can tell. Even with the crowds, noises and everything I still love going there and not just for the shopping on Hill Road!

Re: dairy. I couldn't tolerate tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant or green peppers. They're all night shades and my hands works flare up with eczema. In 2013 while visiting family in Italy my aunt made all the foods I was "allergic" to in one meal. I respectfully ate everything, then I waited. Nothing happened. Italy does not have genetically modified food. I buy organic non GMO and organic now!

Atheism is not disbelief in anything but proven facts. It's simply not believing in dieties that control our lives or existence. I believe in the power of love, of loyalty, and positive outlook, for example. I don't believe the fruits derived from them come from a diety.
