    For anyone reading this: Activities like this are more than just fun party tricks. They build focus, impulse control, and the desire to follow the handler and a lure. They're also engaging, which raises our value around distractions. Keep up the good work, and they'll get it! You're doing great! 🐶❤️

    I have a couple of questions and if you could help me with one or all that would be great.
    Just a little background story I have a 8 month old puppy that I got at 5 1/2 months. She was returned by her previous owner to her mom and she was skinny and scared. When she came to me she just stuck to me like after two days but took a long time to bond with the others that she lives with ( I own her but I'm only 15 years old, so I live with my mom, dad and my two year old brother ) but has now bonded with them, she is very sweet, kind and hyper. So now the questions.
    1. The biggest problem is that at her previous home she was not socialized at that crucial stage and now barks at everyone. (She shows a bit of fear but also excitement but no aggression besides the barking). When we take her to the dog park she will bark at the dogs when we arrive but as soon as she sniffs them she stops barking and just is really good and plays with them. So the questions is how do I stop the barking at people, dogs and visitors?
    2.also she really likes greeting people at the face and when she is greeting my two year old brother she tends to jump on him and he falls to the floor which is not good how do I stop her from doing that?
    3.and one last thing, across from us lives a little dog who is fearful-aggressive towards dogs and one time he was loose and I was walking my dog and he attacked her full on in her feet (she was not hurt but is terrified of that dog now more that anything and goes full on crazy mode on him(barking))so can that get along (not play but just not the barking ) or is it a lost cause?
    But thanks in advance for any advice:)

    I tried sitting on the floor with a clicker and bowl of treats once. I tossed one of the treats the dog ate it then returned and planted his face in the bowl of treats. Don't know if that makes him smart or lazy.

    Hi. I'm having this issue with my dog and was hoping for some advice. My 7 month old puppy is quite big and she wants to sniff everyone out on a walk. I don't mind that she is overly friendly but some people don't like dogs and I'm not sure how to adress this.

  • @sunnythemutt4467

    Good. I thaught my dog this same way but I could say "jump" very early, and then i introduced the second arm progressively from higher because it confused her a little. Now we got the hoop. We only need to make it higher now.

    I can't find a video that teaches this trick but deals with the problem I'm having -- once I remove the barrier, the dog tries to go around instead of through. When the barrier is there, she happily jumps through. How do I get her to continue to go through without a barrier?

    What if your dog is skidish and is scared of things that make sound or move? Is there any way I could still teach this trick I am trying to train my 3 year old German Shepherd to jump trough my arms mind you I am only 12 and I really to be a dog trainer and I want my dog to be confident in jumping over or through things and I don’t know how to teach her to jump over things so she can jump trough things and over but yeah that’s a few problems I have with training the jumping trick

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  5 років тому +1

      I suggest not using a hoola hoop but a pool noodle like in this video - ua-cam.com/video/6gIOlT_uJ54/v-deo.html first begin by laying it on the ground and having the dog walk over it, mark as the dog walks over it, then after a couple training sessions if the dog is confident you can lift it off the ground 2 inches. I would then really stay on that step for a few training sessions, this will teach the dog to really feel confident with the piece of equipment. If you go to fast and the dog kicks it with his back foot while jumping he can start to have a negative association and then feel nervous about it. So better to build up a strong reinforcement history with the equipment first with easy stuff before then using it to train other stuff. Also for dogs who lack confidence especially, if they make an error, just redirect the dog and make the training easier, dont tell the dog he is wrong as that can demotivate the dog.

    Hi. My name is Kylie and I shave a year and a half Shetland sheepdog. Well actually I have 2, but my younger dog Sadie, has a problem with peeing. Whenever she gets scared she pees and my mom wants to get rid of her. Also when she's scared she runs away from u and won't come no matter what. She's very stubborn. Pls if u have any tips on how to train her not to pee when scared and how to come when called no matter what so my mom won't get rid of her. If u know any ways plssss tell me before its so late

    • @tahlianitschke3131
      @tahlianitschke3131 8 років тому +1

      perhaps you should try to build her confidence with whatever things she is scared of. and kikopup has some videos on teaching a dog to come when called. You start out small, calling her in the house and offering a big reward for coming. Over the course of days and months, you will increase the criteria, practising in different locations and with various distractions such as people playing with your dog and food lying on the ground. Hope this helps.

      Kitty Nitschke thank you so much. She pees when she does wrong and we yell at her. Is there any way to train her not to pee every single time she gets punished

    • @qwe1231
      @qwe1231 8 років тому +2

      Discipline doesn't have to use yelling. Obviously yelling freaks her out if she runs away, right? If she's that sensitive then an authoritative, deep-voiced "no" would do better get the message across.
      GO TO HER when you discipline, don't make her come to you or she'll associate coming with yelling/punishment.
      Get a book on training, or get a trainer if you can afford it. There are a lot of simple, basic things you can do (that you aren't) that can turn things around.

      I had same issue with a 9 month old puppy I found on the streets. All that I did to fix it was to simply not make a case out of it at all. So each time She was getting a "No!" or " You are not allowed to do that!" she was just peeing herself. I was simply grabbing the wipe and clean it off. As she was probably expecting me to yell at her because of that, she was taking that " OMG, what I done!" face, but I was smiling at her and telling her "Its OK! No big deal." pat and clean. In like one week she made it to not pee herself anymore and now when she gets "No!" or "You are not allowed!" she is just stating to "beg" for forgiveness, wagging her tail around me and rubbing on me. She still understands that "No!" is a NO. Hope this helps!

      Oh no. :( I suggest keeping the training sessions shorter and making sure your dog has not just had a meal or drank from the water bowl, so only eating a small amount of soft treats, like boiled chicken. And working when its cool and not asking for the dog to jump too high.
