A visit to the Killing Fields shows just how brutal this regime was. Anyone interested in this dark period should read: 'First They Killed My Father', by Loung Ung.
Why? People for all time have felt a motivation from a higher calling, a set of rules outside themselves to strive for. There's no proof that a god exists, but there's no proof a god doesn't exist. As long as the people are willing to be self sufficient with their religion, why does a government have any right to silence them? Moreover, if the current government can silence religion, are you ok with forced religion if another power takes over?
@@mmmmdddd2267 if a new world order strictly enforced religion and made it mandatory to pray, I would join some type of malitia. For thousands of years people have been murdered over religion in same way. Even "Jesus" was murdered over it. I want NO part
@@michael4741 I get what you mean, religion has been the reason for many wars and deaths. But in this very case, Pol Pot committed mass murder to eradicate (among other things) religion. He was the ' "crusader" forcing compliance or else'. Godless regimes are just as evil for forcing their beliefs as theocratic regimes. Havent 100 million (between Stalin, Mao, Pot) died under communist atheist regimes this century? Is that not just as abhorrent? The point is, you can't force anybody's inner allegiance, you can just silence them. And with banning of religion, it would need to be done by force. And forced compliance on this level always ALWAYS goes wrong.

Communism is a religion in itself rooted in gnosticism, hermeticism and Hagelian dialectic.
