Run like Mad was the original theme song of Dawson's Creek in many countries outside of North America, it was only with season 2 that I don't want to wait was used everywhere and I despise that song. Run like Mad fits the vibe off the show much better and it also fits the season 1 credits better which makes me think that it was the intended theme even in the US and to use the other one was a last minute decision.
Not a problem with just the opening themes. I started rewatching the tv series Alias on Disney+. There were several scenes throughout the series that melded popular music with what was going on, but I guess Disney wasn’t willing to shell out the bucks and the music they created just deflates the scene or significantly lessens its impact. It’s a damn shame.
Oh yeah, don't even get me started with switched-up music being used in episodes. Apparently this happens a lot with the old Beverly Hills 90210 episodes becuz the folks that watched it when it was airing live often talk about how the DVDs didn't retain some of the really popular songs :(
Its even worse when they've changed the music within the episodes of a show, because so often they don't get the vibe and pacing of the scene correct. I've seen scenes where the characters are dancing to a the beat of a song in the episode and replacement song doesn't even have the same beat.
Omg tell me about it! There's a 90210 scene where this happens where the music is changed and the cast is dancing and it just doesn't go at all. But then I watched the clip with the original music and it was still horrible so now I don't know what to make of it lol
At least Run Like Mad for DAWSON’S CREEK was written to be the theme song for the show before it was replaced and was used in international airings of the first season so it isn’t as out of place as some of the others. But worse is when they change the music in the episodes. As you mentioned CHARMED they changed all the music in the episodes for streaming and it just throws all the scenes off. Luckily I was able to procure HD copies of all 8 seasons with original music entact. Same with DAWSON’S CREEK was able to obtain hd copies that has the original broadcast music and not the dvd music as they started to change the music on the episodes with Season 2 on dvd.
Yeah it's pretty wild! It bothers me so much that some shows get such poor treatment on DVD/Streaming when it comes to theme songs. There's even more shows outside of these 4. Might make a sequel video with them lol
I’m just super dramatic and will often use words metaphorically 😅. I know uncanny valley has to do with like the level of anthropomorphism in relation to robotics and the effect it has on people, but I was using it to convey a similar uneasiness I felt with the non Lillix theme song usage for Seasons 2 to 4 of WILAY. Literally terrifying lol. I also say literally a lot 😂

House MD - Teardrop by Massive Attack was iconic and the heartbeat track suited the show so well. Whatever they replaced it with just doesn't cut it.

The Wonder Years theme is changed on streaming services. It’s not the same version I grew up listening to and it irks me.
