    Imagine South Korea’s dilemma. They have to put up with constant threats, but so many have relatives in the north that they don’t want to see come to harm! Not too long ago, soldiers from the north, defected. It turned out they had serious intestinal parasites. That’s soldiers! Imagine being on the lowest rungs in that society, or even political criminals!

      The soldiers got parasites from swimming through ponds and rivers that were contaminated when they were escaping NK.

    It's so weird that a place so heavily guarded by the military would be called the demilitarized zone.

    • @MrVvulf

      Large parts of the demilitarized zone have become de facto nature preserves - and quite beautiful because rivers comprise significant sections of the zone.

      Not really, the actual zone has nothing in it but woods, so it kinda makes sense why it’s called that

    Looking up videos on DIMPLE about the people who escape North Korea can be harrowing

    • @newgrl
      @newgrl 3 роки тому +3

      DIMPLE is one of my favorite channels. Kim Jeong Ah, the older woman who defected after spending 10 years in the North Korean military and leaving behind her daughter, is one of my favorite people on all of the internet to watch. The Asian Boss channel also did a couple of interviews with the defectors that did the DigitialsojuTV "North Koreans Try American BBQ feat. Asian Boss" video. Some of their stories are fckin' heartbreaking. Kim Pil Ju's (one of the BBQ video guys) three escapes from North Korea are definitely worth a viewing from Asian Boss.

    • @IrishBiteGirl

      99% of the guests on there are just South Koreans acting.
      It's all fake defectors that they bring on to try stuff, especially the military ones with their obnoxiously fake ranks and uniforms.
      Ask any South Korean or soldier who has served in South Korea, those are NOT North Koreans.

    • @newgrl
      @newgrl 3 роки тому +2

      IrishBiteGril - I don't have any close South Korean friends or anything, but the reactors on DIMPLE have talked about the fact that their uniforms are costumes. In fact, Kim Jeong Ah said "poorly done" costumes... the stripes on the shoulders aren't even going the right way.. or something. The reactors have talked about it more than once. I refuse to believe that the women in the videos "Why a North Korean Veteran Abandoned Her Daughter" and "How a Rich Girl Escaped North Korea" are fake plants or something.

    • @CChissel
      @CChissel 3 роки тому

      @@newgrl maybe not those two, I don’t know but I wouldn’t be 100% convinced about them. Most are fake. You can find other channels of real defectors talking about their experience, but don’t rely on Dimple to show you real North Koreans.

    If the NK Freedom Village were occupied it would too tempting to defect across to the South. In the past NKs often kidnapped citizens of the SK village. I have lived in Korea for over 15years since 1971 (military duty and civilian jobs), the last was 2003 thru 2011.

    I'll say I lived in Pyeongtek for 13 months. I wouldn't say they all wear suits obviously but Koreans do dress nicely typically. A lot of Koreans smoke compared to the US. And prescription Eyewear is really affordable. I went in to this little side shop contact lens store in suwon and was amazed that I got an eye exam, prescription, and 6 months of contacts for something like $100 and all within 30 minutes.

    Kim Jong Un did kill his uncle Jang Song-thaek by firing squad in 2013 and his older half brother Kim Jong Nam in 2017 at an airport by nerve agent. Jong Nam was actually the heir apparent until 2001but was exiled in 2003. Interestingly enough his son Kim Han Sol was raised outside North Korea and has been extremely critical about the regime. But it is still dangerous for him to speak out as he's a strong successor to the throne. Jong Un's children are too young to inherit and Jong Nam is 25. Plus remember his father (Jong-Nam) was the oldest brother. Further, the second brother Kim Jong-chul has no children and has no interest in politics. With how Confucian/patriarchal North Korean society is, I don't see his sister holding onto power.

    Idk why westerners think North Korea is so bad,my friend did a marathon run across North Korea,said it was very clean,has a train system,big high rises,modern city,less cars,people look extremely healthy,well dressed compared to westerners,no pollution,normal food,no one followed him around and didn't tell him what to do,thousands of people from eastern Europe/Russia are invited to North Korea with open hands,it's very easy to visit for us because they don't see us as westerners/close minded. The big difference that in North Korea you can't shit on the leader but you can shit on your boss-you have worker rights,in the west you can't shit on your boss but you can say whatever about politicians because they are just puppets. Same thing used to be in Russia/soviet union but now it's western style,you couldn't just throw out ppl out of their job for no reason in soviet times,my parents who worked hard got a free apartment,high education that would cost 30k now,they got to travel to Crimea/Odessa all the way from Baltics for free,all soviet people were given months of free holidays,if you had many kids you lived like a king,basically women didn't need to work.. till this day 90% of eastern Europeans live in same apartments that soviet union build and gave away for free,if not for soviets we would be Africa because before soviet union majority of us were living in wooden huts from 16th century.

    Watched several documentaries on NK. It’s mind boggling. I remember a story about kidnapping people of different ethnicities and arrange marriage with NK to breed and train their children to be spies and sent out to the world outside.
    Oddly, Kim Jung-Un and his siblings lived in Switzerland and very aware of the western world. When he came into power, I figured he’d liberate his people. I don’t understand how he can follow his father and grandfather’s footsteps in starving and brainwashing the citizens of North Korea. Power, revered as a god must be addictive, I suppose.
