@@stevehutch9592 I read one of Sammy's books years ago. If I remember correctly, he makes the point that in the end, for all the talk of honour and omerta, the mob are criminals. And criminals are ultimately in it for themselves. There's no honour among thieves as they say. You can judge Sammy a canary - Sammy would tell you John Gotti was going to throw him under a bus, and it was John's big mouth that blew the whole thing. For example, John yapped on about the Castellano hit YEARS after it had happened, after it had all been settled in the Commission and he was the undisputed Gambino boss. Why would he do that? Ego? Guilt? Then he ran through a litany of old hits Sammy had performed, dropping his underboss right in it. Gigante would never have made such stupid mistakes. Didn't Gotti once supposedly berate Ruggiero, "never say nuthin' you don't want played back to you in court?" Looks like Johnny Boy didn't live up to his own advice?

I no longer live in that area, in fact I happen to be about as far out of it as one can be in this world, but I can't begin to enumerate all the lessons of life that I learned from these people, and listening to Sammy brings so much of that experience and those memories back.
