Bette was nominated for an Oscar for this performance. I think she deserved it for this scene alone. Call the President...call the fire department. I AM Margaret Elliot. And I intend to STAY Margaret Elliot!!
Shirley Booth got the Oscar for "Come Back Little Sheba" that year. (1952) A role Bette turned down. 🤔 l believe that's the story. I ♡ Bette. ☆ There's nothing like old Hollywood.
Bette did not deserve to be nominated for her Star performance. She was a ham at times going way overboard. Barbara Stanwyck should've been nominated for Clash by Night instead. If any actress deserved 10 nominations it was Barbara.
My favorite sequence is her making up for her screen test and then acting at acting. She inflects and pauses in the worst possible areas of her dialogue to great effect. Just like the actress who tossed of her lines as "Barbara Lawrence".
The customer who recognizes Bette in this scene is surely the same woman who appeared in one of the Three Stooges shorts. The Stooges were selling "Brighto", which they thought was car polish, and Curly, approaching a prospective customer whom he thought was a man, asked "Mister, can I rub a little of this on your body?" The person's gender was revealed when she turned around and said to him, "Just you try it if you'd like a good punch in the nose!"
Mike Field sometimes you can trigger massive weight loss just by giving up one meal a day.. different bodies produce different reactions to weight loss sometimes amazing results! just by giving up sugar or salt can start a rapid weight loss reaction
Mike Field Losing weight by Labor Day, or any day was not going to help those two old bags!! Did you see those faces? And can you picture those old wrinkled, prune bodies in a Black negligee!!?? Perish the thought!!
This is one of three great scenes in this movie. The others are when she tells off her greedy family, and when she watches herself in a screen-test that she has ruined by trying to be sexy.
Bette WAS that character at that point in her career. She should have retired after All About Eve and married a rich Texan like Greer Garson did. Poor Bette became a self-parody in 1950 and never evoked real emotion on screen again
She seems to play this scene several different ways over and over in the same movie. Bette Davis didn’t take care of herself post-menopause like Stanwyck and Crawford did. Even in a girdle and foundation garment her middle-age spread had her rear end looking dumpy and large.
“Thirtynineninetyfiveisntitlovely…” She delivered that line like she could not be bothered! I love it.
And as a great actress (Bette and her character Margaret), she could and did deliver it, patly perfect & perfectly pat.
What’s the name of this movie
@@akieliacobb3483 The Star
Around $400.00 today.
That was expensive in them days
"It is a disgrace! Margaret Elliott waiting on a couple of Old Bags like you!!!"😂😂😂
Or Margot Channing (Bette, two years before this film). Perhaps less so, Baby Jane Hudson (and Bette, ten years after this film) in her fifties.
They lucky Bette didn't slap the Sh**** out of them 😅
LOL

Love Bette Davis. But Shirley did an awesome performance in Come Back Little Sheba.

One of the best scenes in movie history. No female star today could have pulled off that scene like Bette.
She told those 2 old bags.
Take a good look ladies......you go for it Bette!
You go, Bette: that's tellin' 'em!
She was dynamite. It must have been intimidating to play a scene with her. She was small in stature but huge in presence.
Agreed. Bette was like electricity!
Judy Judy Sheindlin vibes
"39.95, isn't is lovely?" Said in the same monotone voice of sales people of generations old and new lol.
Yes!!
@@windstorm1000 and understandable because slave wages, standing in heels all day, and living hand to mouth will deaden your brain.
Only Bette could deliver a scolding like that. 😜
Bette Davis was a great SuperStar! We need more actresses like her today!! 🙏
(smirk) Good luck with that.
these actresses today have absolutely no star quality at all... absolutely none!
@@soulstrength The studio system, corrupt as it was, groomed people for stardom and kept all the criminal acts including vehiclular homicide hidden.
More? Unfortunately there aren't ANY actresses like her anymore.
I worked for the sister dept store to the exact one in the movie... May Co in San Diego... and I lasted only one day as well!!! Luv u Bette!!! Lol
Retail sucks. Low end or high end, all the same.
love bette davis she was pretty in her own way
kim stevens she. Certainly. Eas
She could look stunning or mousey but she threw it all into her character. None like her, ever.
This scene filmed in The May Co Crenshaw shopped with grandma many times .
This is what I aspire to be at work lol
The head bobble of the customer was so perfect
That's tellin' 'em, Bette!
My fav actress miss her!
Only Bette could make running down an escalator look gracious and elegant
I mean with those heels, she just runs but more carefully. 😂
Call the fire department! hahahahahahha
LOL

Margret Elliot, a woman worn by the elements of her life! I always used to say, she was one of my alter egos! Luuuuuuved the initials!
This is appropriate conduct for anybody who works in retail.
Best scene in the film.
When karens come into your store in 1952…
Call the manager, call the president, call the fire department!
Terrific.Louise Brooks got some of that working at Saks.
Classic Bette!!❤🇫🇷💋
You tell those busy body bitches, Bette! XD.....LOVE HER!
The customer who recognizes Bette in this scene is surely the same woman who appeared in one of the Three Stooges shorts. LMFAO XD
I love this scene.
"Oscar, how about you and me go get drunk?" she used one of her own Oscars for that scene..
She defines what a star is. What a lady.
The escalator looks like the one at Eaton’s or The Bay’s in Montreal. Gives me the impression that movie scene was shot in Montreal
Shot at May Co. on Wilshire in Los Angeles. Art Moderne masterpiece. Now a museum.
Lol. This is how I’m gonna handle Karen’s from now on
Love this scene!!!
Proof that Karen's are not a new concept :)
THE STAR FOREVER, EVEN WITHOUT OSCAR.
Grandiosa, divina Bette Davis...❤❤❤
The taller customer doesn't say a single negative thing about her, but cops a spray from her anyway.
Lose 10 lbs by Labor day..? More like Halloween of next year,..:)
Mike Field sometimes you can trigger massive weight loss just by giving up one meal a day.. different bodies produce different reactions to weight loss sometimes amazing results! just by giving up sugar or salt can start a rapid weight loss reaction

haha 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Bette was,no is the best!
Me encanta la fuerza interpretativa de bette davis, esos gestos y esas miradas por dios me derrito😍😍😍😍
Love this! I subscribed! More, more!
A LEGEND
That scene on paper is blah. BETTE DAVIS TURNED IT INTO THE SHAKESPEARE BITCH SONNETS. A STAR IS A STAR.
It's crazy how between All About Eve and The Star Bette Davis turned so matronly. Booze and cigs..
This is one of three great scenes in this movie. The others are when she tells off her greedy family, and when she watches herself in a screen-test that she has ruined by trying to be sexy.
Omg I need to watch this 😍
It's not one of her best films but she steals every scene she's in which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. I do recommend.😉😷
Precious
TheeGOAT❤❤

She doesn’t get enough credit for this movie.
I remember watching this as a young lady and feeling bad for the tall lady because she was more star struck than judgemental as her friend
The sad thing is all the actresses are now behaving like a child and no one dares to face them
None other like her !
WOW!
karens in the wild.
I want to see this movie.
this, of course, was based on Joan Crawford who would not stop being a star.
That's laughable. Joan Crawford was not old and fat like a la Davis!
no, it wasn't
@@Marcel_Audubon yes it was! Screen writers were former friends of joans!
Well, I'm sure Joan earned a lot of *former* friends ... but don't think she was ever reduced to selling underpants in a hicktown
timerwolf700, In this picture she is not fat, by any stretch of the word. She was lovely as always. And btw, you? You’ll get old one day you fool!
Well, I never!
🔥
I didn't know they had elevators back then.
You must mean escalators. 😉
Perché non posso vedere i film di bette Davis in italiano?
didn’t this happen to the Cosby Show actor at Trader’s Joe? Lol
i think it was The Fresh Prince of Bel-air actor?
ook!😊
you cant tell me Aronofsky didn't take inspiration here for the wrestler
May Company Baldwin Hills
This place is a DUMP! anyway
Lol.
All she did in this movie was bitch people out and throw things at them. Lo!
Karen’s origin story!
Call Donald Trump 🤣🤣🤣
Yes call donald trump. 2020
Woman krakatoa bummm. 2020

It's so sad when women get old there washed up today if u get a facelift u can keep your job I tell u it sucks being a women
I say rock what you got.
Performances like this one don't do much to reform Davis' reputation as a scenery-chewing self-parody. Horrible.
Not her best performance.
I wonder what department store this was and where it was filmed.
