“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” It takes vision and patience to plan, plant and nurture a cottage garden. You’ve done an amazing job and I’m so pleased you’re able to truly enjoy your hard work. Your garden is absolutely stunning! Your vlog is so informative and reminds the rest of us gardeners that not everything grows exactly where it’s planted - sometimes it takes a little trial and error to figure things out. Thoroughly enjoyed this video and your little slice of serenity.

Thank you for creating the most sustainable model for being a YT 'content creator' I've encountered. Utterly brilliant the way your art intersects with the garden and helps to fund the endeavour. You're videos, from editing to animation to music selections (including your own), are an inspiration {I've been daydreaming for the past few years of starting my own vintage sewing channel; yours and Bernadette Banners' remain my source for how it can be done}.
The cement mold that you found is amazing - well done. And I consider the presence of vultures to be a good sign of an ecology that's close to balance - we have them swooping through our downtown neighbourhood daily. That wingspan is truly something to behold whilst in flight. Nice that your old shed provided a home to them as a last act...
For the past 25 years or so I've kept a vegetable and herb garden on our treehouse-apartment balcony. This past year I've upped the flower content to feed the local wild bee and bumble population. I'll be building a bee hotel in the spring. Next year I'm looking at adding a small water feature to provide space for the dragonflies that occasionally drop by (apparently the populations in the UK are experiencing stress, so it's only a matter of time until North America feels the same pressure). Thanks for the inspiration.

      @stevezytveld6585 2 місяці тому +1

      I'm humbled. Thank you.
At this point I think I'm going to have to start setting myself some deadlines to get the YT endeavor going {ruefully laughing}. Until then I'm attempting to teach myself all the various ways you can adjust a paper pattern for fit issues - which is a gap right now in the majority of the sewing channels. I figure, if one is going to teach sewing in a PBS style videos, a body needs a custom fit wardrobe...
Thank you again. All the very best for the coming week.

My favorite literature is "Anne of Green Gables," and watching your channel brings me back to the same childlike whimsy, mostly lost to the daily grind. Plus, incredibly fun, because the more you cut them, the more they spread. Throw the seeds out wherever and let it happen! They bloom for months and the 48" tall variety in my garden are over 5' tall. GREAT FUN!!

You make all that you do feel like it is worth trying. I'm glad that you continue to strive to produce what you feel is rewarding and worthwhile. That is something that sets you apart. You offer a level of substance that is truly a treasure to behold.
I've learned so much from you these last few years, giving me the courage to just try things out. I'm an apartment renter, and your videos inspired me to try to create a tiny container garden on my porch. My neighbors seem to enjoy it as much as I do. You've opened a place in my mind that is hungry for as much knowledge as I can get and I'm very thankful to you for that. Siloe, you are an amazing person. You are indeed an artist, artisan, what I would call a Renaissance man. You are so creative and capable as a builder, as well as gardener. I remember when you were struggling with 50K or 60K subscribers. Now you are over 337K. Whatever you make/build you always add an element of beauty not just functionality. I always wondered what kind of training/influence you received in the past to bring you to this level of sophistication. Eu nao posso imaginar que foi no Brasil. Your videos are one of a kind even though your gardening content are common knowledge. I get exhausted just watching you tackle huge long term projects. Always pleased that you complete and achieve your goals. Thank you for sharing your work for the world to see.

Thank you for showing how long it took for the garden to really establish the way you wanted it to be. I started in 2020, too, and was so sad that the garden grew much slower than I imagined. This year was the first time, that I get a feeling it will turn out great in the end. We had tons of slugs because of year-round rain, and many seedlings were eaten. The perennials and trees I planted over the past 4 years finally gave enough shape that it didn't matter that much that the annuals were basically missing.
The garden grows at its own pace and we can only do so much to accelerate it.
Thank you for the many DIY tips. I used your idea of the crushed concrete path and it still looks so pretty! Now, it is time to pour some Victorian edge stones XD

asthmatic gardeners unite!! I love your videos so much, your garden is such an inspiration for me.
This year I designed a little fenced off veggie garden in my parents' yard, it ended up absolutely gorgeous- I have three 10ft tomato and bean florida weaves, marigolds everywhere, some huge squash plants, some scarlet runner beans on the fence, and lots of borage and two sunflowers. I'm slowly convincing my parents that companion planting and planting in the ground is great, and they don't need more furniture or concrete! I live close now so I'll definitely be helping them even more :-)

Holy moly, this is absolutely gorgeous! 🤩
As always, when watching Suburban Homestead, I feel inspired to go into my own garden. Mine is one of those gardens where peonies and hollyhocks are abundant, but dahlias and windflowers get eaten by slugs come midsummer. Yet, maybe its a gift that each garden is its own unique biosphere 😊

Hello! Wonderful to see you! Such an entertaining, educational, and inspirational presentation today! I hear you about the peonies and hollyhocks. I'm in Southern California, and in order to keep hollyhocks from frying in the sun, I've planted them in shade, where they've promptly developed rust. I've been burned by mislabeling issues as well; tiger lilies that came up plain orange. They do well, but I really wanted stripes and spots. I like to hit the discount plant shelves too, and recently found a puny Russian Sage plant for $2.50, which has already doubled in size. I expect it will grow to be huge and fill in a spot next to my 7ft tall native Coyote Brush that has similar water needs. The $1.99 Fiesta rose from three years ago gave me four months of cherry red flowers this year, right where I can see them from my kitchen window. It's those moments that make all of the hard work worth it. I love how creative you are with making practical items on a budget, while making them beautiful. I'm still in awe of those garden beds with the fancy top structures. I adore that Victorian rope edging!! Gorgeous! My 1930s house had lots of the pink scallop cement border pieces, but I turned them upside down for a cleaner look. Thank you for reminding all of us that gardening is a process, and it will take time to reach potential...and (ha ha) by then you will decide you want to change things around. When people ask when my garden will be done, I just laugh. Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson spent 30 years turning a ruin into the fantastic Sissinghurst gardens. Besides, if my garden was 'done', then what would I do? Cheers, Siloe!

I love your garden videos, Siloe! You're so inventive with materials, I always learn something. So glad you discovered winter sowing. I've also used it to fill my beds from nothing in the last two years--plus continuing to sow seeds all season. I'd love more videos on your interior decorating, too, if you ever have the time/feel like making them. I also own an old Victorian.

There must be an army of faeries and gnomes helping you behind the scenes because no human has enough time or superpower to accomplish all the things that you do in such creative and artistic ways. Continued happy growing. Blessings to all!

YESSS!! this was everything I was looking forward to, and more. Stunning work!! Your videos always renew my creativity! 💐
I’m in my 8th year of cultivating my current garden, and I can say it really only hit its stride around last year. It’s small, only about 25 square metres, and I work on it in smaller sections while having an overall plan that I tweak from year to year. It really does take many years for a vision to materialise, and most plants need at least 3 years to settle in. This spring I completely reworked one entire border, and while I’m much happier with the layout, this summer’s display was a little lacklustre - but if gardening has taught me anything, it’s taught me patience and persistence. Now to plan my autumn sowings :)

I stumbled onto your channel a month or so ago and I've been impressed by the quality of the filming and also your creativity. Creativity in how you tell your stories, and the visual appeal in general. I totally loved your video on the cottage garden color master class. Your artistic abilities really showed through. I've checked out your etsy shop too - wow! There was also a garden update from your Mom's yard and that was great, kind of fun how you went through the summer and I had the instant gratification of seeing how everything progressed. This video here after 4 years of hard work I saw the results and it was incredible. I have done a fair bit of gardening too and it's hard, demanding work. I've spent so many evenings watering and deadheading when it would have been fun to just enjoy the flowers. Thank you for all the beautiful videos!!

Your garden rooms could be quite simple as north, east, south and west. Or inspirational pertaining to a few of your favorite artists. This video gives me hope, we lost our 1915 Craftsman bungalow due to a neighbor's home catching fire and taking ours with it (along with my garden, trees and all). I started that garden back in 1992 when the house was first purchased. At the time the yard consisted of old school Bermuda grass only, not even a single tree on the property. So, watching you persevere year by year, I will take up my spade, and start over again. Just like you, trial and error, season by season. Thank you so much for sharing your journey.
