His poetry and commentary have helped me navigate this year. Thank you, David Whyte, for your well-learned practical wisdom to help me understand life’s marvels and heartaches in a modern world 🙏🏼
Today is the first day of my life with David Whyte. I so very much look forward to sharing his conversations. It is rare for me to find someone who blows my mind to smithereens. The great irony is that what he says here is a truth I have been embracing for the last month or two. Is it synchronicity? Who knows? I have decided to embark on a journey of making short documentaries that are intended to be video poems. My intention is to invite the view of no view to presence.
“We don’t have a choice about heartbreak, we only have a choice of having our hearts broken over people and things and projects that we deeply care about.” ~ David Whyte (14:50)
His repeat phrases are an invitation to slow down. We want to rush through the poetry so we get to the prize at the end. But, that's exactly what David blesses us not to do. The phrase repeating forces us to slow down and pay attention. And that's the gift his words invite us to.
i just came upon his poetry by accident (that's typical!) and i am so glad that i did; it has opened up a whole world of understanding and i look forward to more insights. thank you!
David Whyte is able to access eternity, where pure true infinite energy holds vast creativity discovered by those who align with its openness available to all who come across their path🙏
However, I am currently struggling to make something of my aspirations in life - to create. I think there's a lot of merit in realizing those goals, in the journey and the process. While the speaker does not discount that, I need something else to propel me towards a solution. Asking for help is important, I agree - lord knows guidance from others has allowed me to see the light. But I cannot stagnate and simply marvel at the beauty of thought, this desire, dwelling, and my "simple wish to find a way"; I need to express myself creatively to be happy, satisfied, and complete.
David Whyte - What an amazing person and speaker. His talks, and writings are always 'new'. His themes awaken new ways of seeing and living Life! Enjoy the comments.
Ahhh thank you David ... you take us on a journey beyond our own experiences and open it to beautiful possibilities; an invitation to the ones who have not the courage to explore what we see as not possible but innately feel our heart moved toward something yearned for and you introduce to us the nature of the conversational reality of ourselves our lives, to begin to deepen our presence to explore more in depth our relationship to others who may sense the predigested words we have assimilated as you generously offer up to we ,the hungry birds finding nutrients to digest, assimilating new possibilities to offer up to ourselves and to those we meet along our way.
it's both TOGETHER that make it so great - the prelude and context in which the poem was written and then the poem itself. Perhaps a lot more poetry could be presented like this!
beliefless dogmasless Like you said if it's not real for you. Then don't bother about it. What you see and understand is not the same for anyone else. Trying to understand someone else is a waste of time. It will be best that you use that time to find yourself. The quest for individuality is the only plausible objective yet psychic or spiritual truth for any human existence lest he or she becomes aware of it. A belief? the world you sensed is in your mind, everything you see is in your mind. Who are you but you to not know who you are. Maybe you still need to keep on searching a bit more...
beliefless dogmasless funny one! Just do what you want.. maybe you will find yourself in doing what you are most passionate about... We can only understand something or anything only after we have experienced it...which leads us to understand why we wanted in the first place...
beliefless dogmasless If you have already found what you sought then why question it? Are you not satisfied with what you found? This video has already provided some. Please do watch it again. A simple advice, just let go of what you know and learn it anew as it is being projected, so to understand in an abstract new way and to avoid contradictions and finally to promote change as it is meant to occur. It is the only universal truth. Setting expectations will only ruin the outcome and certainly disappoints us. Though the wiser and experienced we get the more predictive our minds become which is quite annoying but very useful to latch to something we recognise and deem interesting to focus on until an omnidirectional perspective is observed. And in there, self acceptance comes in at every turn and every corner for each of us. Whether we do accept or not, will determine our thoughts to our behaviours to our relationships to our moral values & beliefs to our understanding of our own vulnerabilities to complete our unique individualism. Otherwise we'll be running into circles while our time comes to end eventually. Making it meaningful is not only our duty but also our purpose in this life. I hope you see your awakening as the most blissful achievement there is. Good luck.
I actually like this video, yeah. It was full of poetry and passion, yeah. The way he repeats phrases lets me know how what he's on about, yeah. I think his opinions on the nature of reality is good, yeah.
So you know how people who succeed at something often hold their hands above their head in order to take up more space? did you also know that people born blind and deaf do this as well? they have never seen anyone do it, nor probably heard the phenomenon described, they have limited understanding of "filling up space" as they don't necessarily know how large they are in relation to other people, but still they do it? why? TL;DR the deaf and blind definitely think in Norwegian
‘You were more marvellous in your simple wish to find a way than the gilded rules of any destination you could reach.”
Beautiful
Brought a healing to any broken soul.. Savior for all survivors 😢❤
Sam Harris brought me to David Whyte. I’m so touched by his words. Really profound
Me too! I loved his poem Tilicho Lake years ago but forgot about his amazing ways of seeing reality. Then Sam Harris brought me back to him!

“The way forward, always in the end, the way that you came.”
Such a beautiful and eloquent statement.
David speaks with an honest eloquence that very few on earth can muster.

Related thing David has said elsewhere: "You cannot take any sincere path in life without getting your heart broken."
I love when he repeats his phrases
The answer to the question about life, the universe and everything is in the current amount of likes to your remark

I was looking for a comment saying how annoying it is!

I don't know how the perfect TED Talks land up in my notifications, but this is exactly the journey I need.

This may be the finest TED talk I have seen. And I wouldn't have thought so from the title.
You are still as good, if not better, than when we first met decades ago. Thank you for this conversation.
I downloaded this because I can't get enough of it! ❤❤❤
I was talking to a friend tonight about how we seek the how because it's easier than the why. He recommended listening to Mr Whyte
I have been a "fan" of David's for years, so insightful so leading into another life yet to be seen.
Just discovered David and this talk. Very glad I did.
This spoke straight to my heart!

I love this poem
His speech before is much more helpful than the poem at the end.

I clicked the like button immediately after he recited Finnisterre
Outstandingly insightful with a poetic touch for self acceptance!!
beliefless dogmasless Very funny! myself and yourself becomes ourselves having a comment on the existence of oneselves, isn't it real enough for you?
