- Here is a detailed story of Dominic Santiago's entire life in the Gears of War Trilogy. This includes his wife Maria Santiago and his search for her. He ultimately finds her, and has to put her out of her misery. Years later, it is clear that he still can't deal with the depression of his wife's fate, and ultimately sacrifices his own life to save his fellow Cogs.

I kno that feeling me and my stepdad play the first three games together and I would always play as Dom because Don was my favorite character in the game in his death really broke me down my dad looked at me weird because I was crying Dom's sacrifice himself this is literally my favorite game series I am so emotionally attached to the characters in the story is so good
Truth but i always liked Dom more then marcus so i chose to be player 2
Throughout all the gears games 1,2,3 I always chose to be Dom
What's funny is I'm always dom because my name is dom as well and people I played with loved that excuse lol
You have to respect how active Marcus was in finding Maria as well. Of course his primary goal was saving humanity and ridding us of the locust but seeing him serious in finding his friend's wife was manly as hell.
That’s called true friendship.
This is more than a game. Its a story. A war story
A story about comrades in arms... and a brother who fight side by side... to the end.
A family story
I like the little parallel they did with the deaths.

Seriously though, it was really sad to see Dom go like that. One of my favorite characters in Gears of War

GoW3: Hey, Carmine lived!

In Gears 2 he sees his wife as her normal, beautiful self when she first emerges. But once he looks back at Marcus, he is then met with the reality of the situation. Truly dark

Dom was the living definition of someone who truly lost everything, his brother Carlos, his parents, his kids (damm losing a child always breaks the parent) and his wife Maria. He didn’t deserve to go through all this. It’s pisses me off in Gears of War, every time a character finds happiness, it is eventually taken away from them and none of them deserve to go through that.
Oh the feels... Right when Dom died and Marcus is not accepting that fact that Dom died when he says "I need to get him out of there" that got to me

He was Marcus' true brother. He fought through the Pendulum Wars and Locust War with him and him and his brother Carlos both died sacrificing their lives for Marcus.
You missed the part in Gears1 when they're going to get the junker from franklin and Baird says "What you hang out with Stranded now?" and Dom says "No! I'm looking for someone!".

Maria's death fragged Dom up a lot, you can see he is looking at that photo all the time, so it means he still cares about her before and after her death, he just wanted to be in "that better place" with her, which is why I think he sacrificed himself entirely, it had nothing to do with anything but Maria's death and his friends.

I didn't cry till I saw marcus's face
when i first played the campaign, it was on coop with my brother...we both thought dom was running away at first then turned around and blew up. We both were speechless the whole cut scene and i couldn't believe he died. I didn't want to believe it...i cried and we decided not to play for the rest of the day. We called it "Hope Doms Not Dead Day"

I still choke up every fucking time I see Dom drive into that tanker... No other video game moment ever made me had to walk away from my console and just cry.. This is why this will always be my favorite video game series of all time.

The details: when a soldier dies, their dog tags are removed and delivered to the families. Dom left his with the angel signifying Maria. His decision was already made that he wasn’t leaving that place.
When dom handed Marcus the knife, Marcus handed the knife back to dom but he didn’t take it back. He purposely handed the knife to Marcus as a memorabilia piece. Dom was on a mission to sacrifice his life and these 2 scenes were so subtle that I never caught it the first time I played it during my teen years. Now I’m 26 and damn.. the details in these scenes were alluding to the sacrifice of Dom.

Of any game series I've played. Never a more compelling and well thought out story than that of gears.
Doms life could be summarized in the GoW3 Dust to Dust trailer. That part with the Ash mother holding her two kids. The mother symbolizes Maria and the kids are Dom's kids. Then the Locust breaks though the ashes and destroys the family.

Seeing Dom break down like that was messed up that was some serious pain still one of my favorite characters 9 years later and we still miss you Brothers to the end 🖤🖤🖤

I agree. Not only is the story awesome but the story for all the characters and how we feel when we are almost connected to them is what makes it so amazing. The scene with him losing maria to him saving marcus and the others. It really shows in the end what kind of man he could be and the others can be as well. Just pure awesomeness man.
Dom's death still makes me choke up all these years later. Dom was so likable and held a special place in all our hearts. It was sad to see him go. He was suffering so much, and saw an opportunity to end it in a good way and save his comrades. RIP Dom. Epic Games Gears for life!

Man, I remember there was a time when you could play on gridlock while hearing mad world and the screen would go blue . That had had to be a memento for dom.
When Dom saw that statue, he knew. He just knew that it was time for him to see Maria and his family again.

9:31 I have a friend like Dom, and I'm glad I do. "Marcus is busy saving the world again, I got to be there for him." That really hits me in the heart, Marcus and Dom are what brothers really are. Always there for each others back, and I'm glad to have a friend in real life like that. I got to be the best man for his wedding, it felt great to be there for him. Not many stories are like this anymore, makes me sad.

I like that part in gears2 where Dom takes point to find Maria. Pretty similar to the beginning of gears 1. Also, Marcus didn't look away or look down in disgust when the door was opened because he knew what Maria must've looked like after being captured since he already saw how broken Tai was being captured
