It's volcanic forces that made them I believe, they are Rhyolite rock. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geological_history_of_the_Chiricahua_Mountains Looks a lot like the sandstone pillars of Bryce Canyon, Utah. As the mountains erode they are exposed.
Chiracahua NM is one of those little-known gems of the National Park Service system. I visited there many years ago. While camping in the surrounding Coronado National Forest, I was lucky enough to spot a group of female coatamundis (sp?) and their young. I'm glad you discovered this magical place.
I was at Whitewater Draw 01/19/2017 Lots of Cranes. I also was at Chiricahua NM the next day. It was the day they got the snow in the mountains, also went to Portal and Paradise on the East side of the Chiricahuas. Love your videos. I have been to a lot of the same places you have been. I am surprised we have never crossed paths.
Wife and I enjoyed this video. We just left AZ a couple days ago and didn't get as far south as Tombstone. Definitely will be adding this to the next trip! Reminds me of Zion.

awesome video. If you make it to flagstaff, I happen to know from personal experience that the stream fishing is awesome. and they have a sliding rock park where you can slide thru the rocks in a creek but take extra bluejeans. It has been about 52 years since ive been there but it has left life long memories with me. I can still remember cooking the trout in aluminum foil on the campfire. almost forgot our campgrounds got run over by a family of skunks. I hope it is a'place on your travel list.
Hi Ray, just finished visiting the park. Reminds me of Bryce Canyon. Awesome place to visit. We ended up camping in the Forest Service camping. The washboards were everything you claimed. I'm not sure you would have found a good spot with the trailer. Lot's of low branches and tight spots.
WOW WOW WOW. Just absolutely breathtaking. It kind of reminds me of Bryce Canyon in Utah. Different material for formations, but beautiful. I felt like I was riding along with you. Great video. The sunset was spectacular just fitting for the end of a great day. Thanks for sharing. Maybe some day I will get to do what you are doing. I will see.
As Canucks, I was surprised to see you wearing ski jackets in 60 degree heat. Then I remembered you are from the banana belt part of Canada. So just awesome scenery. Maybe a little contrasty for Anne to do any photography but beautiful just the same. I noticed that Beagle stopped whining once he got his mug in the video.
We went up to over 6000 feet so the temps were a bit cooler there and the wind picked up. In the evening temps also drop really fast once the sun gets low. They are just thin down jackets. But, we are wusses now since we haven't spent a Canadian winter in 6 years. :) Cheers!
Hi Ray. Awesome video, thank you for sharing. My husband and I subscribed to your channel, we enjoy and watch your videos all the time. I personally kept thinking that there's always a little something missing though and tonight I figured out what that something is: your presence. Why is it that so incredibly rarely you include yourself and/or your wife in your videos? I think that if you did that more often it would stimulate more interest and would help the viewers to better connect with you, but of course that's just my opinion... Anyway, keep up the good work and safe travels.
Thanks! I talk to the camera once in a while but I feel folks are more interested in seeing what I'm talking about versus my talking head. I'm a fan of the point of view type video, letting people see what I'm seeing. I guess everyone has their own style. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers Ray
Some great shots there. Like the Hoodoos up at the top. The stills were very cool. Have you done a video on your camera gear and software yet? What camera are you using if you don't mind giving away your secrets? Keep it up!
Here is a post I did a while back - www.loveyourrv.com/love-your-rv-photo-and-video-creation-tools/ Both cameras are getting a bit long in the tooth. They have been good though, get used a lot.
I have the Garmin RV 760LMT GPS unit and a separate Garmin Dashcam 20. Cheers! From sunny New Mexico now. I look forward to our return trip in the spring and a green NorCal. Ray
Question for you. I see there is a Travel Centers of America center North of Sagebrush Mobile Park. Do you sometimes stay in TA's for just an overnighter? Or did you stay longer at Sagebrush Mobile Park?
Occasionally we stay in truck stops when doing long trips with lots of miles. We are at Sagebrush for 4 nights because we wanted to unhook, leave the trailer and take the truck sightseeing.
I'm wondering how those towers(phallic) rocks were made??? Don't take me wrong, or gross but......

Beautiful monument. I'd never heard of it. Thanks for sharing.

Another awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
So that's what Chiricahua NM looks like without snow! 😊👍
Likely has now today, big cold front blew through. :)
Angela M it is not in New Mexico, it is in Southeastern Arizona.
George Garman Yes, I know, I went there in January. NM stands for National Monument.

Thanks! We have been to Slide Rock State park when visiting Sedona a few years ago, never did the slide as it was cold in April, very cool to see!
Heading to AZ this March I hope. I'll add that to my list. Thanks Ray. :)
Heading that way in about 3 weeks.
Nice job!
Great video! Hitting this one up later this year in November
Cool, have fun!
Great video

Thanks, it's a lot like Bryce for sure. Glad I was able to show it off a bit, but of course it's 10 times better in person. Cheers! Ray

Nice music. Fan John
that's some pretty neat scenery, now on my list, thanks.
i'm just wondering whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy that is not a National Park?
great last shot.
Good point, Pinnacles became a NP recently and I think Chiricahua is at least on par with it.

Thanks! The dashcam video is from my Garmin 20 - www.loveyourrv.com/my-new-rving-gadget-the-garmin-dash-cam-20/

Thanks! It's an older Sony Camcorder - www.loveyourrv.com/love-your-rv-photo-and-video-creation-tools/
thanks for taking us along nice country ( my turn is coming)
You bet. Cheers! Ray
What Garmin model are you using?
It's a Garmin RV 760LMT. My wife gave it to me for Christmas this year. :)
I have 40 acres in Cochise county you can camp on!

Canadian speaker? :)
Yes, from British Columbia
Ray, I love your videos, but the word is pl-eye-ah.
Thanks.
You obviously never watched any old John Wayne movies, or you would know how to pronounce 'Chiricahua'.
